About

DR SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL is the record-setting Broadway sensation which features the hit songs "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" from the original animated television special. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small," decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss' original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville, as this sparkling production breathes new life into this timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas. Don't miss what The New York Times calls "AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE! 100 times better than any bedtime story."

  • Theatre Etiquette

by Dawn on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

The performance itself was on point. The distractions however, were horrendous. From screaming babies to loud conversations and the grand finale, a child who was loud and kicking our seats the entire show ( which was tolerated giving the benefit of the doubt the child was likely excited) spilling pop on my hair, too and pants. Chiildren need help regulating and the parents were simply oblivious. We purchased 8 tickets at roughly 100$/seat and expected an exceptional experience, bc after all we are simply kids at heart! On the bright side, Guest services was on point, taking very serious our situation offering us free tickets to another show of our choosing.

  • Excellent show, but late comers were a major inconvenience

by A grandma on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The show was excellent. The problem we encountered was there were several late comers that were allowed in. We couldn’t see the stage as the latecomers blocked when finding seats, removing coats, and talking while getting situated. Also, someone a couple rows behind us had a young child who cried, screamed and carried on. Not fair to those of us who showed up on time and were trying to see and listen to the show.

  • Classic/ funny/heartwarming

by Fran on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The fox theater & staff always accommodating, friendly & patient. The show was not too long, cheerful, funny great acting. The only thing I did not like was the fact that there were no brown/ yellow people in the show. Wish the cast was more diverse.

  • Fun for the whole family

by Mo on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Love the show! It was so entertaining. Definitely worth seeing. The sound for one of the characters was a bit too low, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars

  • Was not happy

by Lucy on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

I was not pleased with performance . I could not hear the cast. It was so loud with people talking and crying kids. They should have know with kods being there it would be loud. The mics need to be louder

  • Fun show Distracting crowd

by Grinch on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The Grinch play was festive and fun! I was surprised there was no intermission- that maybe would have been helpful. We had seats in the back and honestly were distracted the entire time. Couldn’t believe how many people were late, having ushers shine light and show them to their seats. Also, so many people moving around the entire time, up and down blocking the view.

by Grandma with granddaughters on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

It was a magical time. It was the first time my 5 and 3 year old granddaughters have gone to a stage play. They loved it. My 3 year old kept looking around then say, “ Grandma, this place is just AMAZING. “ High praise from a 3 year old. They had a great time from curtain up until curtain call. What a wonderful way to spend an evening with my daughter and her daughters 🥰🥰🥰🥰💕

  • No access

by Beth G on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

We never made it in to see The Grinch. With all kinds of streets closed off. We were directed by police to get to the parking garage only to find the road was closed off we drove around crime 5:00 only to find $80 parking that was full. We came back at the approximate time of intermission and still were unable to park.

  • Cute show

    by Gitchee906 on 11/13/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

I wasn't sure how they were going to stretch a 30 minute cartoon into a 90 minute musical, but the new songs were fun. The Grinch is great and provides comic relief. In the beginning, Old Max could speak a little louder, but he did a great job with You're a Mean One, which was the most important thing. Young Max is kind of annoying, though I guess he is in the cartoon too, he just doesn't speak there. Cindy Lou was also great. I kept wondering if she was actually a child and then actually singing. It was fun for adults with no kids too. There's no intermission so it's a fast show, but still worth it for a night out.

  • Fun Grinch musical!

by Shelly on 11/12/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

  • Performance was amazing, audience was awful

by Grinch on 11/11/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

The performance was absolutely amazing. The Fox Theater is beautiful. The constant talking, crying, and phones by both parents and children however was awful. There were parts we could not even hear. I don't expect silence at a show that likely attracts younger viewers, but common decency is expected It was an evening performance and the tickets were not cheap. It felt like a romper room.

  • I loved it

by Chels on 11/11/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

10/10 show. The Grinch was great and hilarious. Family friendly show!
