About

DR SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL is the record-setting Broadway sensation which features the hit songs "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" from the original animated television special. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small," decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss' original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville, as this sparkling production breathes new life into this timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas. Don't miss what The New York Times calls "AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE! 100 times better than any bedtime story."

  • The Grinch

by TinaB on 11/16/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The show was so much fun, the songs were catchy and very entertaining. The problem was the audience, people were still coming in 20 or 30 minutes after the show began and the ushers were showing them where their seats were loudly. It got annoying but it seems to always be this way at the Fox. I would still recommend the show.

  • It was okay

by Taj on 11/16/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

The musical itself was only okay. The songs weren’t great and the kids got bored. But the length of time was excellent and there were cool surprises at the end of the play like fake snow coming from the ceiling.

  • Was ok

by Grinch Mom on 11/16/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The Actor who played the Grinch was good, but Max should be brown and not look like a skunk. Everyone else was good.

  • Good, but not expected

by Emilia on 11/15/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Bought these tickets because my friend and myself love musicals/plays as well as the Grinch. However, this was definitely aimed for a much younger audience and was honestly too "musically."Was hoping for more of a reenactment with some singing not an entire show of songs. For kids, great. For adults, I wouldn't bother.

It was a great way to start the holiday season and the show was so much fun.

  • Family Fun

by CMYooper on 11/15/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic singers, great acting, fast paced and fun - definitely not just a live action word for word version of the movie! My kids were literally on the edges of their seats the whole show - we wholeheartedly recommend this to any family with younger children

Took the grandkids to see the Grinch and it was awesome. I was worried it wouldn't hold the kids attention but it was great. This is a great way to kick off the holiday season. Grab your tickets while you can, this is a great show.

  • Fun for all!

by Deamonkinn on 11/15/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

A great and faithful telling of the Grinch who stole Christmas that fun for (almost) all the entire family. The play was excellent and was a great time, the people who came though should use better judgement. Please don't bring your child under 5 to a play. Children that young can't and won't sit through the play and don't understand what's going on. It ruins the night for those unlucky enough to sit near you while your child is crying or not watching the performance. I understand this is a play meant for children and it is but please leave the littlest ones at home for this.

  • Great show. Rough start.

by SH on 11/15/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

We arrived early to the show to find our seats and get concessions. The show started and the narrator’s microphone was low. For the first ten minutes, late guests were shuffling around and finding their seats. Walking in front of us. It was slightly frustrating. Half way through the narrator’s mic was turned up. The show was great and entertaining. I would recommend it for all ages. Got me in the Christmas spirit for sure!

  • Great show!

by The Grinch on 11/15/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

It was a great show. My kids really enjoyed it. It kept them entertained the whole time. (Ages 6, 8, and 9) I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I wished they played more of the classic Grinch songs. Max's costume didn't look like Max either, wished they would have kept his classic look, too. Other than that, Cindy Lou and the Grinch stole the whole show. Absolutely wonderful to watch.

  • Great show for all ages!!!

by JJ on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Everything was great about this show. I especially loved the fact that they knew their audience. Just when my grandkids started looking a little tired, they perked right up because something really cool happened. …they especially thought that the snow was “cool “. The performance running time of 90 minutes was perfect, and not having an intermission was also perfect because I think it would’ve lost the children otherwise. Thanks for a great time.

  • Great Show!

by Melanie on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The show was super cute and great way to kick off the holidays. My biggest complaint is how the facility how they handled the late comers. Lots of interruptions when guests arrived late.

  • Top notch performance

  • Fantastic show for kinds both old and young

by The Greenhouse's on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

My fiance and I decided to get last minute tickets for the Grinch to have a nice night out. We are never disappointed by the events hosted at the Fox. It was a ton of fun with good laughs and great songs. All the actors did a terrific job! Hope to see it again next season. Perfect for any age.

  • Started out slow, but loved the last half.

by Lis on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the first 20-30 minutes started off slow. But then it was very good after that. The Fox Theatre is beautiful as always. The cast did a great job. It was sometimes hard to hear the narrator. (Max in his older years). On a whole it was a memorable experience for my granddaughter’s 6th birthday.

  • Theatre Etiquette

by Dawn on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

The performance itself was on point. The distractions however, were horrendous. From screaming babies to loud conversations and the grand finale, a child who was loud and kicking our seats the entire show ( which was tolerated giving the benefit of the doubt the child was likely excited) spilling pop on my hair, too and pants. Chiildren need help regulating and the parents were simply oblivious. We purchased 8 tickets at roughly 100$/seat and expected an exceptional experience, bc after all we are simply kids at heart! On the bright side, Guest services was on point, taking very serious our situation offering us free tickets to another show of our choosing.

  • Excellent show, but late comers were a major inconvenience

by A grandma on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The show was excellent. The problem we encountered was there were several late comers that were allowed in. We couldn’t see the stage as the latecomers blocked when finding seats, removing coats, and talking while getting situated. Also, someone a couple rows behind us had a young child who cried, screamed and carried on. Not fair to those of us who showed up on time and were trying to see and listen to the show.

  • Classic/ funny/heartwarming

by Fran on 11/14/23Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The fox theater & staff always accommodating, friendly & patient. The show was not too long, cheerful, funny great acting. The only thing I did not like was the fact that there were no brown/ yellow people in the show. Wish the cast was more diverse.
