About

DR SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL is the record-setting Broadway sensation which features the hit songs "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" from the original animated television special. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small," decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss' original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville, as this sparkling production breathes new life into this timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas. Don't miss what The New York Times calls "AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE! 100 times better than any bedtime story."

  • Great Musical

Enjoyable musical presentation of a well loved Christmas story. Enjoyed the humor (child and adult) along with the recognizable music from the original movie and cartoon remakes.

  • It was okay

by Clay on 11/27/23Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

It was a little slow for me at the beginning but did get better as the show went on. It was appropriate for children to see, so that's what counts since we took our 6-year granddaughter for her first ever musical. I probably wouldn't see it again, but my granddaughter totally enjoyed herself.

  • Entertainment for ALL

by ViVi on 11/27/23Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

Treated our 3 Granddaughters and their Mom, ages 5-71, to the performance. The six of us loved every moment of this Colorful and Musical event! Even our Special Need granddaughter enjoyed the lights and music as much as her 71 year old PaPa. Worth every penny to see the different levels of enjoyment!

  • Be a Mean One

by Bill on 11/26/23Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

The song Be a Mean One really stood out to my group. It felt family friendly but not just kid friendly which my in-laws in their 80s really appreciated. The grinch was wonderful as was the story as a whole. I, personally, loved the snow near the end. It made me wish I was closer to the stage.

  • Not my favorite

by April B on 11/25/23Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 2 out of 5

This show was not my favorite holiday show. The Grinch character himself was great, but the rest was just okay.

We all loved the the musical How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The Grinch was great! Old Max was too. However, my granddaughter was confused because young Max wasn’t brown. I highly recommend this musical for all ages.

This show was great. I had 5 of my grandchildren with me and they loved it. (ages 20 - 10) Also, the venue (first time attending) was the best. You could see from any seat.... the attendants were kind and pleasant. I was very impressed. Will attend more shows there.

  • A Bit Short

by Deb on 11/24/23Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

The quality of acting, musical talent and sets were great. The costumes, especially for the adult males of Whoville were terrible with Grandpa Who looking like he was is a huge diaper. Very degrading towards senior men!

We thoroughly enjoyed the show. Way better than we expected. We were blown away by the set and Cindy Loo Hoo.

  • from start to finish we were all engaged

by h.lynn on 11/22/23The Centre in Vancouver - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

My family of four which comsister of a 9 and 12 year old were totally engaged throughout the whole show. It had us laughing with tears in our eyes. I loves that it was told from an older Max's perspective.

  • Fun for bigger kids

by Mom4theArts on 11/21/23The Centre in Vancouver - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Beautiful costumes and music. The story is narrated by an older version of Max the dog which was confusing for our 4/6 year olds, especially since the younger Max is on stage simultaneously and the two didn’t look alike - lots of questions! Loved the “interactive surprise” towards the end!

  • It was great!

by Bee on 11/21/23The Centre in Vancouver - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I liked the varience from the original storyline. It kept it interesting but still honoured the iconic cartoon. I liked the occasional comedic moments. The Grinch's performance is fantastic and his singing amazing. The unexpected surprises during the performance were heart-touching. The first one made me tear up. I would recommend it to others. The ticket price was steep but I am very glad I went.

  • Great Show, Poor venue management

by Nik on 11/21/23The Centre in Vancouver - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

The show itself was great!! But staff kept letting people in and out which was very distracting. Usually doors are closed and you’re not allowed in if you are late. People were let in, for at least a half an hour after the show started. No intermission which was fine but would have been good to know ahead of time. For $170 being interrupted by people coming and going and making noise was not appreciated.

  • A Christmas delight! Great fun for all!

by Dawn on 11/21/23The Centre in Vancouver - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Definitely family tradition worthy! We will go every year, or whenever the Grinch comes to Vancouver-ville! We loved the set designs and show ending audience surprises — fantastic! The actors and costumes were amazing, and the audience engaged. The only thing we would change would be to make Max’s costume traditional in color.
