Doug delivered! Show was fantastic and I'd recommend it to anyone. Good time was had by all.
His comedy is not for the faint of heart. But he was hilarious. He makes arguments that you can't argue with!! He will leave you cracking up. I give 4 stars simply because he was testing out some new material.
Stanhope is a one in a million. He prefaced a joke by saying "this is going to walk a lot of people, if seats become empty in the front, feel free to move up" - then he proceeded to do the funniest five minutes of beheading material I have ever heard. Not for the faint of heart, and only for people who know Doug's sense of humor.
Funny funny man. And a sharp dresser to boot. Five characters.
Took my brother to see Doug Stanhope for a birthday present. I wasn't expecting to like it much, but I love my brother and he wanted me to go, so I went. I'm really glad I did! He was MUCH better in person than recorded! If you don't get easily offended, go see Doug Stanhope.
He was awesome, did not disappoint. We had a great time!
He kicked off the show with a Robin Williams joke: need I say more? I'm gonna send a note to Popov next. Support acts were also very good. Looking forward to the "Atheist Christmas" release.
If you haven't seen Stanhope, you can stop reading this and go buy a ticket for a show near you. Always a good time, and guaranteed laugh out loud moments at every turn. Now on to the bad...it was Sacramento. The MC was disastrous. He was a sort of 'dad' looking guy with what seemed to be a clean act that he 'dirtied up' for the Stanhope crowd. Yuck. The second act was a retired comedian that 'came back to the stage' for a special set. It was awful. His closer was an impression of Chris Rock repeating punchlines and yelling at the top of his lungs. Ugh. Lastly was a Canadian comedian who came out and picked up all of the pieces. He had a Zack Galifanakis thing going, and he killed. Bottom line, go for the headliner at Sacramento Punchline, but keep expectations low for the local talent.
This was my first experience going to a comedy show to see a comedian that I new beforehand. It was everything I was hoping it would be, and I had very high expectations. Doug Stanhope is controversial and says lots of things that piss the average person off - and that's why I love him. Whether it's about mental health, family planning, or religion, I find myself almost always agreeing with him. If you don't, you probably won't enjoy the show.
Perfect show! Stanhope was brilliant like always, and the venue was great.
I drove from Reno to see Doug, for my 5th time. I love his intellect, saviness, and edginess. Nobody can duplicate his delivery or social awareness. There's a reason why there was a huge line of ticketless hopefuls waiting outside the venue for any no shows.
Doug was in rough shape after the recent death of two friends. He held true and tried out some new material, some of which was really funny. You could tell he was still reeling from the losses and the crowd unfortunately began to heckle him.
My bucket list: See Doug Stanhope live and take a photo with him even though I know it kinda annoys him. Now I can die with a big smile.
Awesome stuff.Doug fondly reminisced about his previous relationship with his first girlfriend, the mother of one of the other comedians. RIP Whiskey girl and nowhere man.
I finally had the great pleasure to see Doug Stanhope and was blown away by how wonderful he is. Deep, dark and funny as hell truths about our mad world, our heartbreaking world, the only lives we ever get. Thanks Doug. I hope to see you back here when you're just about ready to film the current show you're developing. I'd be lucky to see that--or anything you do.
Likes to hit taboo stuff which I like. If you're not a fan of controversial topics then seriously don't go. His openers were also great with similar styles of comedy.
the show was great! Doug's feature, Junior Stopka was absolutely hysterical and totally killed it. Doug came out and delivered an alcohol fueled amazing set. plenty of great material and a bit of crowd work that came to an all-time classic climax. It was a great show!
The two openers were so funny and of course Doug was hilarious! It was also nice to see Bingo at the show :)
Doug Stanhope is the best stream-of-consciousness comic around. And his girlfriend Bingo was at the door before the show at Cobbs in S.F. - and she is fantastic!
Probably the best live comedy I've seen; even better than Bill Burr on New Years 2012 (which was awesome). He has some great guys with him. Junior was hilarious-- and all of them approachable. I bought a box of girl scout cookies from Junior after the show, got autographs, etc. Stanhope's bit about football in October made me pee my pants.
