About

Doug Stanhope is a stand-up comic. Has been since 1990.

His material ranges from true-life graphic perversion to volatile social criticism. Doug is vulgar, opinionated, brutally honest and shockingly uninhibited and is certainly not for everybody.
He started his career in Las Vegas doing jack-off jokes for free drinks. Not much has changed, save for the mullet.

Doug has built a wide-ranging television resume of dubious achievement. He hosted The Man Show on Comedy Central as well as the ubiquitous pseudo-porn for the sexually crippled, "Girls Gone Wild", both solely and shamelessly for financial gain. He has appeared on "The Howard Stern Show", "Comedy Central Presents", "Premium Blend", NBC's "Late Friday", "Spy TV" BBC's "Floor Show Live" while on ecstasy and wrote, produced and starred in Fox's "Invasion of the Hidden Cameras" and has even popped up on "Fox News with Greta Van Sustern" and "The Jerry Springer Show".  In 2010, he was the Voice of America on the BBC's  "Charlie Brooker's Newswipe".
None of it compares to seeing him live; Doug is a two-time winner of Time Out New York's "Best Comedy Performance of the Year".

He's appeared at multiple major comedy festivals including Montreal Just For Laughs, Aspen US Comedy Arts, Chicago Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Scotland, where he won the Strathmore Press Award for Best Act of the Fringe in his debut year.

Selected by both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter as one of the Top Ten Comics To Watch, Doug has released four CDs and three DVDs including "No Refunds" on Showtime in 2008.

    Not His Best

by MikeB on 9/7/21The Wilbur - Boston

It goes without saying the Doug Stanhope is not everyone's cup of tea.

    Lots of laughs

by Rick on 9/7/21The Wilbur - Boston

Erica Rhodes performed the opening set. We had seen her special on Netflix so we were expecting a good show - and we got it! Her stories and timing were great. We will be looking for more of her in the future. Doug Stanhope's act was the polar opposite of Erica's, but was also excellent. It seemed as thought he had been caged up the past 18 months and was just set free. His set was fast paced and all over the place, but the crowd had a great time.

Great show all around. Doug had his usual great insight. Easy to get in and to our seats.

    Show

by Cilla on 9/6/21The Wilbur - Boston

Ticket master charged outrageous amount for tickets people around me paid $40-$50. I paid $484.00 for 2 tickets. Couldn’t hear the comedian very well. Just not fun after finding out ticket master is a rip off

    My Favorite Comedian

by Chris A. on 8/29/21Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

Doug is perfect. I could say more (a lot more) but that would just sound like a bunch of boot-licking and ego-stroking. I loved the show. I hope I can see him again.

    Doug is the best

by Ethos95826 on 8/29/21Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get to the show but I know Doug well enough to know he was hilarious. After having to postpone the show 5 times it just didn't work out for me. I'll be there next time, I know that.

Show was good but venue could be better.

by Dan on 8/28/21Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

Two drink minimum is a bit excessive. Especially since I don’t drink soda or alcohol so I’m paying $6 per serving for water that tastes like tap water. Also the seating arrangement is very odd. You have round tables but line your chairs in rows pointing at the stage? I thought one of the rows was a Covid buffer but nope. Packed in on top of each other and had a hard time seeing the stage once all the seats were filled. At least Doug was funny and saved you from a totally bad review. I’d never come back to this place.

    Stanhope ay the Neptune

by Michelle on 3/11/20Neptune Theatre - Seattle

Doug Stanhope was great!! My fiancée has been dying to see him and the show did no disappoint. We love this venue too, not too big, just right for this type of show. The only complaint was the shows general admission seating...it was a sold out show and while everyone found their way eventually...it’s distracting watching the latecomers wander around looking for a seat while the show is going on, not to mention the lineup in the cold so you could ensure you could sit next to the person you came with...I don’t think seat assignments are that difficult and they have been done at this venue before...food for thought.

My only minor complaint would be that I prefer to have a reserve seat.

Took my boyfriend to see this. Doug is one of his favorite comedian next to George Carlin. He really enjoyed the show and couldn’t stop talking about it. The show was amazing.

    Was not impressed

by jjay13 on 7/17/18Sony Hall - New York

Stanhope used lingo from 30-50 years ago, which was not relatable to me - he swore alot and was fixated on the King of Thailand - seems like he has alot of loyal followers, but I was not one of them - and the venue was disappointing - you couldn't move around once seated - would not recommend this show to my friends

I'm 'Stanhope ing' in the shower!

by AurorianRoadGuy on 7/2/15The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

With it being the first time seeing Doug Stanhope live, he didn't disappoint. With all the material I've heard him use over the years, I was curious if he had anything new. Again, he didn't disappoint. My girlfriend and I had a great time and will definitely see him again if or when he comes back into town.
