About

Doug Stanhope is a stand-up comic. Has been since 1990.

His material ranges from true-life graphic perversion to volatile social criticism. Doug is vulgar, opinionated, brutally honest and shockingly uninhibited and is certainly not for everybody.
He started his career in Las Vegas doing jack-off jokes for free drinks. Not much has changed, save for the mullet.

Doug has built a wide-ranging television resume of dubious achievement. He hosted The Man Show on Comedy Central as well as the ubiquitous pseudo-porn for the sexually crippled, "Girls Gone Wild", both solely and shamelessly for financial gain. He has appeared on "The Howard Stern Show", "Comedy Central Presents", "Premium Blend", NBC's "Late Friday", "Spy TV" BBC's "Floor Show Live" while on ecstasy and wrote, produced and starred in Fox's "Invasion of the Hidden Cameras" and has even popped up on "Fox News with Greta Van Sustern" and "The Jerry Springer Show".  In 2010, he was the Voice of America on the BBC's  "Charlie Brooker's Newswipe".
None of it compares to seeing him live; Doug is a two-time winner of Time Out New York's "Best Comedy Performance of the Year".

He's appeared at multiple major comedy festivals including Montreal Just For Laughs, Aspen US Comedy Arts, Chicago Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Scotland, where he won the Strathmore Press Award for Best Act of the Fringe in his debut year.

Selected by both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter as one of the Top Ten Comics To Watch, Doug has released four CDs and three DVDs including "No Refunds" on Showtime in 2008.

Do you think Jay Leno is funny?

by TrustYourGovernment on 2/23/13Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

If so, you are far too lame to find Doug funny. Go watch Dane Cook at an arena instead. I especially enjoyed Doug's last bit describing in gruesome detail his fantasy of raping a professional football player on the field while the fans cheer him on. If I don't see people squirming uncomfortably at a Stanhope show, I'm disappointed.

Raunchy, Controversial Rant-Humor at it's Best

by PhilOC on 11/19/12Wilbur Theatre - Boston

What I expected based off of his past work, though he really took things to the next level. I have never heard anything more offensive or in such bad taste in my entire life, and I laughed my ass off. It was 100% new material, nothing I had heard from him before. I will definitely be seeing him again next time he is in the area.

This was a great show! I felt like Stanhope was really relaxed just being back in Boston. A chance to try out new material. He doesn't disappoint!

Offensively hilarious as always. The only people disappointed were the women that were being paid to be guys' arm candies.

    Dated Material

    by Mojito85 on 11/19/12Wilbur Theatre - Boston

I enjoy Doug's material - I just think for this show the material he chose was proabably about a year behind - the occupy movement segment was a little dated. he is a great story teller.

    STANHOPE!

by Anonymous on 11/19/12Wilbur Theatre - Boston

If you are a fan of the comedy stylings of Doug Stanhope, this show was everything you could have wanted. Bar tender was absolutly terrible in the upper level though. Took forever while there was a line and messed up most of the drink orders in our group. For what they were charging for drinks I would expect better service.

Stanhope was not on his game.

by MrLubby on 8/20/12Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

I wish I had brought my resperator to the Culture Room with me. The ventilation was so poor my eyes burned the entire night and I had to come home and burn my clothes. Now to the show. The opening comedians should have been taken out back and flogged! Very sad! I enjoy humor even adult humor but there was none to be found with the openers. Now on to Stanhope..... He started off on a roll with some good stories and one liners but, completely lost his train of though, actually he was left at the station! The end of his show made no sense and was not funny. The vulgar was just senseless and without comedy. Doubt if we will go again.

    You gotta like Doug

by Mark1pt on 8/20/12Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

You wouldn't be there if you didn't like the stand up of Doug Stanhope. Raunchy, yes.....provocative, yes......but oh so funny. I love guys like him and Dennis Miller where they just get on a rant and keep going and going and going.......be forewarned, Doug's comedy isn't for the sqeamish, but it is so funny. The 3 comics they had on before him were pretty lame, not at all funny.

Hilarious show and the ticket prices were SO reasonable. Doug Stanhope is the man, he was on point and delivered a lot of varied material. His opening act was also really funny.

    Doug Stanhope at Culture Room

by HenrikN on 11/15/10Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

Doug Stanhope is my absolute favorite stand up comedian. I have had the pleasure to see him several times and have loved each and everyone of them. However everyone is entitled to a bad night and this one was Doug's. He absolutely tanked and could not bring himself back. After 45 minutes of embarrassment he went of stage and hid out in the back room. Last years performance at the Culture Room was however one of the best performances I have seen. Absolutely hilarious and he had the whole audience in his grip.

    Disorganized & Rambling

by vladsgym on 11/23/09Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

I wanted to like this guy as I identified with a lot of what he said but it just mostly was not funny or even entertaining. Our group wanted to have a good time & this got really boring waiting for the few bright moments. It just wasn't tight or coherant.

    Stanhope no holds bar brilliant

by bambip on 11/21/09Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

standhope was better live than on the cable special i first saw him. He is one of the most brilliant comedians i have ever seen. His flow of ideas does not seem like a rehersed act. He dances arround hecklers(very few, they can't keep up) with masterful responses, then follows their train of thought into a new sidebar of humor. The man has a phenomenal brain! He also preformed a long time with none of his material being repetitious. He is one of the most creative thinkers of our time. Not to mention the crowd was multi-generational, a very ecclectic group, just like the preformer himself. Hope he stays this good for a long time.We (the public)certainly give him enough material! Stanhope was better than I could have imagined.

    Stanhope...need I say more?

by Anonymous on 11/21/09Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale

Doug was awesome! The opening comics were good. The crowd sucked. There were a few hecklers during the opening acts, and they were extremely rude. People also kept trying to talk to Doug while he was on stage, shouting at him. He could not get into a flow, but he was still funny as hell. I don't know what it is about stand up that makes people try and talk to the comedian. I did not come to see you...I came to see Doug, and Doug ROCKS!
