DMX in Concert
All DMX seems to make is top-selling records, beginning with 1998's It's Dark and Hell Is Hot. Collectively, his first five albums have gone platinum 15 times, and, as of late, DMX has been gracing stages all over the map with a 20th Anniversary Tour of the album that started it all. On stage, little has changed over the past 20 years. His live performances continue to showcase the same unique anthemic style, fierce braggadocio and passionate flair that he's always brought. His uncannily deep, raspy flow's still there, too, along with the highly recognizable grunts and hollers that could only come from DMX. At an April 2019 show at Manhattan's Irving Plaza he teased and toyed with the crowd before dropping his breakthrough single, "Ruff Ryders Anthem," as they roared along with the star.
DMX Background
Born Earl Simmons in Mount Vernon, New York, DMX grew up in Yonkers. As a troubled teen, he found himself wandering the streets late at night and befriending street dogs, spawning a theme that frequently appears in his music (most famously in his first charting single, "For My Dogs"). DMX has released nine studio albums, featuring such guest vocalists as Jay-Z, Cam'ron, Aaliyah and even Patti LaBelle. A father of 15, today DMX is a devout Christian and a deacon in his church. An entertainer at his core, DMX has had leading roles in a number of films, including Romeo Must Die with Jet Li and Exit Wounds with Steven Seagal. He gave what is arguably his marquee performance as Tommy "Buns" Bundy in Hype Williams' 1998 hip-hop epic, Belly.
Great show, excellent food and drinks, nice people.
Opening DJ was mediocre, you could see he was under a lot of pressure to by time for the next act and then DMX. X definitely could have had a better DJ open his show. The second act the rapper had a dope flow just people were anxious for X. DMX was spectacular and didn’t disappoint though he arrived on stage at 10:45 is for an 8pm show, but I’ve been to enough concerts and shows to know the main acts don’t come out at the time it says the show starts.
DMX hit the stage with a mission and left his heart out there for his fans. He’s still got it, with everything he’s been through, he’s still got it. Can’t wait to see him again!!
Tickets on point! Getting in on point! Show DEF on point!
X still got it! He's an amazing performer, but I was disappointed in how late he was. The show started at 8. He took the stage at 10:45 and the first opening act did not even go on until 9:45. Reading other reviews it seems like this is a pattern. It's not fair to the fans. I would literally go to every DMX concert nearby if it wasn't for this. My time is worth more than standing around for 3 hours and then the performer only performs for 50 minutes. Anyway, those 50 minutes were full of energy, he was just amazing! I'm glad I didn't leave. Had he been on time, I would give him a pass on such a short performance. I love this man, I want him to continue to be healthy and well. Show a little respect for our time and your fans will never leave you.
My only complaint is the show took to long to start. It was scheduled to start at 8pm but did not start until 11pm.
1st off never get the fastlane pass waste off money and time. Also dont evet get the tailgate pass either.. not true to there word..Show was supposed to start at 8 but DMX did not come on until 1030pm. The acts before him were all trash! DMX was great for the 45 minutes he was our there. Next time skip the whack opening acts unless there locals and tell DMX when tou come to the A dont big up New yorkers just cause there a ton of them here..This is still the A 1st! other than that he gave a good show..brief but good
Event started super later than expected but DMX delivered some classic. I enjoyed his performance as well the storylines that lead up to each song. In one of his storylines/ testimony particularly he left me with a heavy Gem of game that shared with my family that opened up a discussion of Faith and for that alone the concert was blessed.
He was almost 3 hours late, the openers sucked and didn’t make sense for a dmx show with this crowd knowing it’s going to be older people. If I wanted a knockoff Migos member I wouldve went to birthday bash. Dj was cool but waiting so long I was ready to go to sleep. When he finally came out he only did the first half of the songs then prayed in between every song. Maybe if he wasn’t so late we could’ve got to the 2nd verses.
We expected him not to come on at 8, so we got there around 9:45. He still didn’t come on until 11. Then we were back in the car by 12:24. Mind you, that’s after we walked back to where we parked. His performance was good, just short and it was annoying how late he was.
Great show. He sounds exactly the same as in his prime and looks pretty much the same except for the white hairs in his goatee. The show was so fun. DMX has so many hit songs. The best part was the last song when he performed "Slippin'" it was breathtaking!
Unprofessional and 4 hours LATE!!!!!! WILL NEVER EVER GO SEE A DMX PERFORMANCE
His performance was good but sold out events at Revolution Live SUCK!!! If they doubled the price of the tickets and capped it at half capacity it would have been 100X’s better!
The facility promoted the concert time - 7pm. The place gets jam packed by 8:30pm with people standing (still no DMX) but the dj & host comes on stage. By 9:45pm an unknown artist is on stage, he was ok. 10:30pm still no DMX. Went home because I’m feeling really disrespected about the games these clubs play about my time & money. Wake up in the morning, browsing on social media.... people started posting live footage of DMX around 1am🤦🏾♀️
DMX put on a good show. The problem was the show was 4 hours late. And the venue - Revolution Live is standing room ONLY!! We were standing sardines in a can with NO air condition. It was extremely HOT and uncomfortable while we waiting for FOUR hours. The promoter should have made a better plan for this type of show.
DOORS OPENED AT 7. HE DIDN'T GET ON STAGE UNITL PAST 11:30. ALL SEATS WERE GENERAL ADMISSION. SO, WE HAD TO STAND FOR 4+HRS. ENDING UP LEAVING BEFORE HE EVEN CAME ON STAGE. IT WAS ONE OF THE WORST CONCERT EXPERIENCES I'VE EVER HAD.
Well the show suppose to started at 9:30pm. Dmx didn’t come out to 11:10pm, I was mad and furious. But what I’m hearing now, is the club want let the artist comes on until they sell enough alcohol smh, Anyway DMX IS A LEGEND A FREEKIN GOAT 🐐. He have always gave a great show. He made up for those two hours lol. He did others songs as well. Not just what was on #itsdarkandhellishot album. He still got it, That growl still have me go crazy. He was lit 🔥 and he said he loved our energy. Here to anyone that miss him in Florida. He coming back Sep 1,2019 in Boca radon at the LOTOSFESTIVAL💃🏽💃🏽🙌🏿🙌🏿. So I’ll be in the house again. You never want to miss a dmx show. He’s one of the greatest real rap artist out there. He speaks truth and love God. The love is real. Thank you dmx for another great show. Oh yeah everyone got a ticket, because most likely we didn’t know, he would be there that long. Since showtime was at 11:10pm and not 9:30pm. Hopefully I can dispute that ticket. 35 is a lot when u don’t deserve it. Revolution live should pay for our tickets. 😡, it’s there fault not ours.
In a standing room only venue, DMX made us wait 4 hours and 15 minutes before he came to the stage. When people come to support him after all he’s been through, that was not the way to thank his supporters. It was a Wednesday night and we worked the next day and most of his fans aren’t teenagers. Left a bad taste!
On a work day, after having coordinated our outing, we get there at 730pm and dmx didnt come out til 11pm!! FOUR hours standing there in the heat.
Doors opened at 7, I found a good spot to view the show then I stood there over 3 hours waiting for the artist to perform. I left before the artist performed. I was told he went on close to midnight. I will probably never go see DMX again he has a history of showing up late. Never again.
