About

DMX in Concert

All DMX seems to make is top-selling records, beginning with 1998's It's Dark and Hell Is Hot. Collectively, his first five albums have gone platinum 15 times, and, as of late, DMX has been gracing stages all over the map with a 20th Anniversary Tour of the album that started it all. On stage, little has changed over the past 20 years. His live performances continue to showcase the same unique anthemic style, fierce braggadocio and passionate flair that he's always brought. His uncannily deep, raspy flow's still there, too, along with the highly recognizable grunts and hollers that could only come from DMX. At an April 2019 show at Manhattan's Irving Plaza he teased and toyed with the crowd before dropping his breakthrough single, "Ruff Ryders Anthem," as they roared along with the star.

DMX Background

Born Earl Simmons in Mount Vernon, New York, DMX grew up in Yonkers. As a troubled teen, he found himself wandering the streets late at night and befriending street dogs, spawning a theme that frequently appears in his music (most famously in his first charting single, "For My Dogs"). DMX has released nine studio albums, featuring such guest vocalists as Jay-Z, Cam'ron, Aaliyah and even Patti LaBelle. A father of 15, today DMX is a devout Christian and a deacon in his church. An entertainer at his core, DMX has had leading roles in a number of films, including Romeo Must Die with Jet Li and Exit Wounds with Steven Seagal. He gave what is arguably his marquee performance as Tommy "Buns" Bundy in Hype Williams' 1998 hip-hop epic, Belly.

    Awful

by A. on 4/13/19Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

The concert was suppose to Start at 7pm. He did not even perform until after midnight- from what I heard. My guests and I had to leave the venue by midnight to catch our train home. Very disappointing

    DMX Review

by HebrewHunk on 4/11/19The Fillmore Silver Spring presented by Cricket Wireless - Silver Spring

DMX killed the show. He was everything I expected and more. I would have wished he would have either come out earlier or there was a different filler from arrival to him going on at 10:30pm, but having a DJ play for 3 hours made people a little more anxious than needed. Overall though, I would definitely recommend seeing DMX!

    Shows up 3 hours late

by R. H. on 4/10/19The Fillmore Silver Spring presented by Cricket Wireless - Silver Spring

DMX decided he was going to show up 3 hours late after the DJ got bood off stage. The dog did a 50 minute set which included 10 minutes of running his mouth. The 40 minutes he did perform were good though.

X gon give it to ya...2.5 hours late tho

by Lex on 4/10/19The Fillmore Silver Spring presented by Cricket Wireless - Silver Spring

Everything was smooth about accessing this event. Great job Fillmore. However, I am dismayed that DMX did not come on stage until 2.5 hours after the start time of 8 pm. This show was on a Sunday. People have jobs to go to. When will these artists be held accountable for their tardiness???

Stand and wait 4+ hours if you want

by TruestReviewRalltym on 1/30/18TLA - Philadelphia

The show was supposed to have begun at 8 pm, yet the opening act did not come out until 11:45 pm! Before that, there was just some DJ on stage playing random songs, not saying a word to the crowd, for 3 plus hours! To the credit of the fans, most stayed around up until 12 am, at which point there seemed to be a huge exodus and a good ONE THIRD of the sold out crowd left the venue, prefering to lose their money then to wait any longer for an artist who apparently doesn't appreciate his fans. I stupidly waited another 15 minutes, before cutting my losses and leaving myself, without ever seeing him. I found out later that he finally got onstage at 12:30 am and performed for a whopping 45 minutes, smh... Paying $50+, to wait 4+ hours, for a 45 minute set just doesn't make sense to me. But at least now I can say I've had the privelege of giving DMX my money for nothing.

DMX was 4 1/2 hours late taking the stage

by Bieser on 1/30/18Theatre of Living Arts - Philadelphia

The show itself was great, DMX put on a great show. The problem was the concert time was 8pm, and he didn’t take the stage until approximately 12:30am. He’ll never get my money again.

    DMX is a terrible person!

by vesman21 on 1/30/18B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

I bought tickets to see DMX at BB Kings on Thursday, January 25th. The tickets, website and signs all said that the doors opened at 7PM and the show would begin at 9PM. I walked into BB Kings at about 7:30. First, to kill time, I went to the bar for a beer and ordered a Shock Top on draft. The beer was so unbelievably sour that I spit it out right away after one sip and didn't get another drink. At about 9:45 DMX's opening acts went on and were awful. They were just bad...no other way to say it. No one cared what they were saying or who they were, and they had about 15 nobodies on stage with them just smoking weed and taking selfies. Awful. They at about 10:15, another opening act came on...same result. They were both terrible and by the end of the 2nd act, the crowd was booing. Also, both acts only played 2 songs each...literally 2 songs...they were on and off the stage in 15 minutes. Then, around 10:30 some guy, who did not rap, got on stage and started talking...only no one could hear him because the DJ didn't turn the house music off...eventually when the music did go off, this no name guy who looked cracked out rambled for about 5 minutes about staying in your lane and the history of hip hop. No one knew or cared who he was. Finally at 11:15 (almost 4 hours after I first entered the venue), DMX's DJ came out, took the microphone, and told us to, "be patient and that DMX was on his way." When the crowd suggested he start spinning, he replied that he couldn't because he, "didn't have his equipment...it was all with X." At 11:30, I decided enough was enough and left. I was not the only one, as a pretty mass exodus of people left with me. There is only so many times you can hear some idiot with a microphone say, "New York, where you at?!" before you know the payoff isn't worth it. All-in-all this was a terrible experience. I did learn later via Facebook and Instagram that DMX did eventually come out around 11:45 and played a set which was not good, as he noticeably looked intoxicated. I understand the lifestyle, but he broke a commitment to a loyal group of fans, and essentially robbed us of our time and money. If a show is supposed to start at 9, it should start at 9...not 11:30. I, like many others, had work the next day and had no interest in standing around for complete disappointment. What DMX did was completely unprofessional and his entourage was awful as well...guys literally on stage all night taking selfies, charging their phones, and looking as bored as the crowd. The best part is being told by Ticketmaster the next day that essentially I have no recourse and have to just eat the $65 I lost on this "show." I have liked DMX for over 15 years, have used Ticketmaster dozens of times, and have had positive experiences at BB Kings in the past...all of that is over now as I'm done with all 3. Don't ever forget the golden rule...you're in a service industry...the customer is ALWAYS right...don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Over all I waited 4hrs standing for him to show up. And when he did he did 40mins set. It was good but the wait was ridiculously long.

    Will NOT see DMX again....

by Philly12345 on 1/30/18Theatre of Living Arts - Philadelphia

The show as 8 pm (doors opened at 7). I knew going into the show that there would be an opening act so my friend and I arrived at 9:30. The opener was a DJ...fast forward two hours later and still no DMX. My friend and I decided to give him 30 more minutes, and at midnight when there was still no sign of him we left. So, money wasted. I confirmed later that he came on the stage at 12:30 and rapped for one hour. I will NOT see DMX again.

    Very disappointed with DMX!!

by PeteTorres21 on 1/30/18Theatre of Living Arts - Philadelphia

DMX is my favorite rapper and is someone who I respect as a legend in the rap game. But the show was to start at 8pm and DMX showed up at 12 am. Then he only performed for about 45 minutes. The place was packed but many people left because they thought he wasn’t going to show up. That is not how you treat your fans X. You have an older fan base and you are no longer making hits, so one of the ways you are making a living is by performing for your older fan base. If DMX continues to do such things he will lose a lot of loyal fans.

    Lost a fan(s)

by YolandaW on 1/29/18Howard Theater - Washington DC

January 26, 2017 doors opened at 7:00 PM. Show was supposed to start at 9:00 PM. at 11:00 PM security made an announcement that DMX had a family emergency and that he will reschedule for Sunday January 28th Very unfortunate and some people had been waiting for him since 5:00 PM. According to the staff DMX wasn't even in the DC area. He was still in New Jersey. Sunday comes around. Its less than 100 people there (true DMX fans of course) however everyone else decided to get a refund. Show starts at 9:00 PM we get there and the front door people said DMX is not here. Guess what, MIDNIGHT the show is canceled. I can't support this man. I wish I could give negative stars. DMX please don't come back to DC.... ever.

    No Show

    by Bronx71 on 1/29/18DMX - Washington D.C.

DMX was scheduled at the Howard Theatre on Friday and no showed. Security came out at 10:41pm and said he was in NJ on a family emergency. The event was rescheduled for Sunday and at 11:30pm he still wasn’t there! Such a huge disappointment for people that came out a second time to support him. Management should not book him again. After paying for parking twice and coat check twice....I’m done. Howard Theatre need to do better in letting the fans know something, instead of having us wait for 3 damn hours.

    DMX was aight

by Kiki83179 on 1/28/18B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

I just wished DMX performed some more obscure songs from his music catalog. The acts before DMX were horrible. One rapper just started doing standup comedy and spittin’ lyrics from other songs which was pretty pathetic n my opinion. The DJ played the worst music before DMX got there. I saw Method Man & Redman a few months ago and that DJ had Everybody dancing before they came out. This DJ has everybody praying for DMX to come out already. Regardless of all that, I still had a decent time.

    DMX

by Anonymous on 1/28/18B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

I enjoyed the show once it got started. Show start was for 9pm. There was a long wait time before the first group went up. Then there a long wait time in between each group. The venue needed to be more organzied. The venue should respect fans and ask artist to be on time.
