Denver Nuggets History

One of the founding teams of the American Basketball Association in 1967, the Denver Nuggets franchise was originally known as the Denver Rockets. They preemptively changed their name to the Nuggets before the 1974–75 season, anticipating a move to the NBA (where Houston’s team already had the name). In their nine ABA seasons, the Nuggets made the playoffs seven times — losing in the finals to the New York Nets in the league's final year.

They were one of four ABA teams annexed to the NBA in 1976 and immediately were one of the most successful teams, winning the Midwest Division two straight years behind future Hall of Famers David Thompson and Dan Issel. In 1980, the arrival of another future Hall of Famer, high-scoring forward Alex English, began a run of nine consecutive seasons in the playoffs. Coach Doug Moe's offensive-minded squads made it past the first round of the playoffs four times, falling three times in the conference semifinals and once in the conference finals, in 1985 to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The team had only one winning season in the 1990s, but it was a memorable one. After finishing 42-40 to sneak into the playoffs as the eighth seed in the 1993–94 season, they upset the top-seed Seattle Supersonics in the first round of the playoffs, thanks in no small part to center Dikembe Mutombo's heroics.

Led by 2003 first-round draft pick Carmelo Anthony, the Nuggets reversed their fortunes to post 10 straight winning seasons beginning with the 2003–04 season. The Nuggets won their first NBA championship in 2023, led by two-time league MVP and Finals MVP Nikola Jokić, who collected his third regular season MVP in 2024.

Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena

  • AA court side seats Horrible

    by Kcjoe3610 on 3/29/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 1 out of 5

Can’t see anything on the court unless it’s directly in front of you. I’ll never buy courtside seats again.

  • Fun game

by Nuggets fan on 3/27/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Unfortunately, the home team lost. However, it was fun, and the view was decent. The only thing I could complain about is the size of the seats, very tight. The price was very affordable.

  • Awesome

by JR on 3/18/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

The Nuggets do such a good job of enriching the experience of attending the game. We had a great time even though the Nuggets lost.

  • Awful

    by Sparrow78 on 3/15/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 1 out of 5

We paid over $1500 for court-side seats and you couldn’t even watch the game unless you stood up. The all inclusive food was terrible and didn’t cover wine.

  • Howl 'bout them Wolves?

by ChopinRachs on 3/15/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Great game atmosphere, awesome venue, friendly staff, top-notch entertainments, and the Timberwolves beat the Nuggets! 🐺

  • Fun time

by Tre on 3/10/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

I took my nephew to celebrate his 16th birthday, and wow, what an incredible game! The excitement was off the charts as the nuggets battled it out, going into overtime after a thrilling last-second three-pointer. Watching Joker achieve his first-ever 30-20-20 game was absolutely epic! We had an absolute blast, and the energy in the crowd was unreal—definitely the loudest regular season game I've ever experienced, maybe even rivaling the playoffs! What an unforgettable night!

  • Great time. The parking staff was super helpful.

    by Lisa G on 3/9/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

We had our plans change and had to drive separately to the game. The parking staff helped us get our group together and ensure that our prepaid parking passes were able to be used.

  • Great Game even though we took an L

by HC on 2/26/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Always a good time at Ball Arena and the Nuggets. We played against the Lakers, my second team, so I got to see the best player in the world in Jokic, King James, and Luka. Great basketball played.

  • Completely Obstructed View

by Uncle Luke on 2/25/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 1 out of 5

I purchased two tickets for a total of over $400. My seat was behind a gate or something with iron bars. The view was completely obstructed from both the court and the jumbotron. No mention of this from ticketmaster when i purchased the ticket. Not sure what to think accept for someone should've labeled this seat. Awful value for the price.

  • An Evening Well Spent!

by Lulu In The Cityy on 2/17/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

I had a wonderful time at the Nuggets game. The staff I interacted with at the bar were very friendly and helpful. The seats were AMAZING. The gentlemen who was at the door I entered to get to my seats had such great energy, you can tell he enjoys his work. Great experience all around. Can’t wait for my next game!

  • Good seats, odd timing to vacuum

by Nutzzo on 2/16/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 3 out of 5

The seats were nicely located & great views from the seats. For whatever reason, there was a decision to use loud vacuum like machines from the 1st - 3rd quarters. You could clearly hear them and most of the fans in our section continued to turn around to find out what was going on. Even more disappointing considering both the Nuggets & Avs are off for a week so possibly NOT using loud machines during a game can be avoided in the future

  • NuggsWin

    by AM1 on 2/9/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

Short handed Nuggets took care of business!- easy win! Jokic and MPJ had big games! Entrance into arena took time, but overall great time

  • Dynamic pricing? Not a fan.

    by Steve S. on 1/24/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 1 out of 5

I paid a lot of money for my seats to this game before the season even started, and I don’t feel that I got my money’s worth because Embiid was injured. I also saw that I could’ve gotten these tickets much cheaper on third-party apps such as Gametime the day before the game took place. I’m certainly going to think twice before buying tickets to these games again so far out in advance.

  • Great seats.

by Kay on 1/18/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Even though the Nuggets lost, the experience of seeing a great team was exciting.

The Nuggets game was great! Ticketmaster prices were not though. Way to overpriced.

  • Misleading

by Nacho on 1/6/25Ball Arena - DenverRating: 1 out of 5

Thought I was buying tickets to enjoy the game in descent seats. What a surprise when I got there and come to find out that they were standing up only tickets!!!!!! What a way to watch the game really disappointed on the misleading information that was given to me before spending almost $400.00 on these awful tickets. Never heard of such nonsense! 3 hours standing up to watch a basketball game. 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽

  • Great time!

Highly recommend the parking pass. It's a huge time saver and super convenient. The arena is nice and well staffed. Looking forward to attending another game. The DJ was great. The whole crowd participated and the Nuggets won!

The game was incredible! The logistics, food options, entertainment, and atmosphere were all outstanding. We traveled all the way from Sydney, Australia to see Jokic play. He performed exceptionally well, and I'm so glad the Nuggets had such a great game with Jokic shining as the star!
