It was worth missing the first JETS playoff game!! This was some remarkable concert - the one you were really glad to be at. A packed house came to hear Del McCoury and the PHJB, wonderful individually, sublime when they joined forces. A standing ovation brought them back, and another saw them off. I had heard of, but not heard, the Jazz Band, and, truth be told, I am not all that into jazz, but I thoroughly enjoyed this show. The playing, and the joy on stage, was truly a treat to behold. As an aside, I read a lot of negative reviews of BB Kings in NYC, and just cannot agree. First, it's a concert venue, not a restaurant. As a venue, it is just fine - fair seating policy, good sightlines, super sound. The food is expensive, but you don't have to eat - only a $10 minimum at the tables (you can drink that easy). Also, while some portions may be small, the food is generally pretty good. It might be classified as a "tourist trap," but it's one that this NYC citizen does not hesitate to go to if I want to hear the performer. Mary Stuart "opened" with a set that was fun and musically wonderful. He is a great performer, and his band is good and fun to watch. The unannounced opener was an 18-year old by the name of Sarah Jarosz, who I had never heard of but will surely hear more of. Indeed, she's nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental Performance. A true original. Some good covers and even better original tunes. I'm a "senior" and just cannot get into Taylor Swift. This young lady was easy to like.
