  • Fantastic show

by L.M on 11/8/19Crystal Bay Club Casino Crown Room - Crystal BayRating: 5 out of 5

We’ve seen Del McCurry several times and he always does a great show. This show was one of my favorites. The music was great, the sound was awesome and Del and the boys were having a good time.

  • Bluegrass extravaganza

    by Stormdog76 on 1/19/16State Theatre, Kalamazoo - KalamazooRating: 4 out of 5

As usual, Billy Strings and Don Julin (with Kevin Gills on bass) tore the roof off the place. They got the crowd worked into a solid lather with their high energy brand of psycho bluegrass. Too bad this was their last show together . . . . Jeff Austin continues to utterly underwhelm. He has lost his mojo since leaving YMSB. His band is not nearly as talented as the old YMSB, and they lost the crowd with a lackluster performance. Del McCoury is as good as it gets for old school straight up bluegrass. Just five great pickers and singers playing their asses off.

  • Del McCoury was disappointing.

by 5Bluesman on 4/9/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 1 out of 5

My wife and I are both fans, however, Del could not remember words for most songs and was not prepared. It was disappointing considering the price we paid.

The music was great but the show was too short. What a beautiful venue for a summer concert. This place needs to be marketed better. We only heard about this show by a coincidence. We loved it and look forward to coming back for future shows. Than you very much. Really enjoyed the Ben & Jerry's

  • Unbelievable Musical Fusion

by NavDad85 on 8/15/11SS&C SummerWind Performing Arts Center - WindsorRating: 5 out of 5

For years I have considered myself something of a misnomer in that my two favorite types of music are bluegrass and jazz (particularly Swing and Dixieland). The corroboration of the Pres Hall and Del McCoury bands perfectly blends my favorites and solidifies my appreciation of these two genres.

  • amazing performance, terrible venue

by simsburytom on 8/15/11SS&C SummerWind Performing Arts Center - WindsorRating: 5 out of 5

two seemingly dissimular bands performed amazingly well together. had the audience rocking all night. summerwind venue was terrible. no tailgating, food or beverages. food for sale was not properly heated and wine was undrinkable.

  • Ael McCoury- I did not evn know I liked bluegrass

by SissyG on 10/19/10Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome - was so sad when it was over! It was cold but we did not even notice; the show was so entertaining.

  • Del McCoury Band plays Cheekwood

by janet4dierks on 10/19/10Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

On a slightly damp, chilly evening in Middle Tennessee, the heat was supplied by the revving of guitars, mandolin and banjo and the pure energy of the Del Mc Coury Band. Known for their superb musicianship, Del and the band warmed up the hillside with rousing renditions of songs from their current album as well as taking requests from the audience. Del laughed that eveyone wanted to hear the old songs. Requests included: A Good Man Like Me. Ronnie's bar ballad: Last Call (for Alcohol), and A Snake in the House. were done with wit and style.

  • Del McCoury Band at Cheekwood

by Ssiisssssy on 10/17/10Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic! We really enjoyed the venue, Cheekwood, with the Chihuly exhibit in the background. Del played his greatest hits and gave a preview of his new album with the Preservation Hall Band. His band is timeless.

  • Del McCoury Band, "in the grass"

by radiooer on 10/16/10Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The "Class Act" of bluegrass music with an extraordinary repertoire spanning three decades, presented in an imminent setting on Cheekwood's front yard. I have never seen them without suit and tie; impeccable manners, polite interaction with the audience; no fooling around. A broad set without break; flawless musicianship, harmonies and lead vocals all in chilly outdoor evening temperatures. Each member is a master of their instrument with extensive lead picking breaks. Absolutely no disappointments for anyone. One of the most productive and awarded bands in bluegrass still widely touring.

  • The Best of the Best

by BillInRichmond on 6/4/10The National - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

The Del McCoury band was (as always) exceptional -- every song a masterpiece in individual virtuosity and group synthesis. And The National was a terrific venue, put its excellent acoustics to very good use. I saw Del McCoury at The National two years ago, and once again we had a really enthusiastic Richmond crowd, which is great because I want the band to have a warm place in their hearts for Richmond so they come again.

  • another great night with the McCoury's

by lyman on 6/4/10The National - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

great show, opening act was a pleasant surprise, McCoury's came out in style, played as tight as always, despite Del using a borrowed guitar,

  • Excellent

by LBee on 3/3/10Headliners Music Hall - LouisvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Del McCoury Band is worth the price - great show. I had never even heard of Trampled by Turtles - but I'll make sure I see them anytime they are in the area. An unexpected surprise.

  • Pure talent

    by david915 on 2/28/10Headliners Music Hall - LouisvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Del and the boys rocked (in bluegrass style) Headliners Music Hall. Del's voice compliments their music so well. If you have never been to a bluegrass show, I highly recommend these guys! They are pure musicians that have mastered the art of playing their respective instruments. Trampled by Turtles were great as well. A rock style of bluegrass that was very fast. I have no idea how these guys keep time. They will be huge one day!

WOW.....What a GREAT SHOW. I was not very familiar with Trampled By Turtles but they put on a very good show. A young band that has a little bit different bluegrass sound, But I enjoyed it. Worth checking out if you get the chance. Then on comes Del And The Boys....KNOCKOUT PUNCH !!!! Great Music. Knows how to put on a show. Great interaction with crowd, Beautiful singing, Long setlist.... I believe they about covered it all. If you have never seen Del And Boys live, You are missing a Great Band with alot of Music History....If you are a Music Lover (What Ever type you are into) You owe it to yourself too see Del And The Boys Live.

Opening act was pitifully bad, but Marty Stuart and his band were the best of Bluegrass. Del McCoury is the tradition and still sounds fine. The combination of Dixieland and and Bluegrass provided an occasion for a revealing musical conversation. First rate.

  • Wow!!

by Citycitizen on 1/12/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

It was worth missing the first JETS playoff game!! This was some remarkable concert - the one you were really glad to be at. A packed house came to hear Del McCoury and the PHJB, wonderful individually, sublime when they joined forces. A standing ovation brought them back, and another saw them off. I had heard of, but not heard, the Jazz Band, and, truth be told, I am not all that into jazz, but I thoroughly enjoyed this show. The playing, and the joy on stage, was truly a treat to behold. As an aside, I read a lot of negative reviews of BB Kings in NYC, and just cannot agree. First, it's a concert venue, not a restaurant. As a venue, it is just fine - fair seating policy, good sightlines, super sound. The food is expensive, but you don't have to eat - only a $10 minimum at the tables (you can drink that easy). Also, while some portions may be small, the food is generally pretty good. It might be classified as a "tourist trap," but it's one that this NYC citizen does not hesitate to go to if I want to hear the performer. Mary Stuart "opened" with a set that was fun and musically wonderful. He is a great performer, and his band is good and fun to watch. The unannounced opener was an 18-year old by the name of Sarah Jarosz, who I had never heard of but will surely hear more of. Indeed, she's nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental Performance. A true original. Some good covers and even better original tunes. I'm a "senior" and just cannot get into Taylor Swift. This young lady was easy to like.

  • Fantastic show!

The acoustics were great, the crowd was into it, and the musicians were superb.

  • Everything Old Is New Again

I thought I was signing up for Del and Preservation Hall- what I got was the most memorable four hour straight concert with more American originals than I have ever seen in one place at one time. A wonderful, extraordinary evening!
