A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he's always wanted: a chance to finally fit in. DEAR EVAN HANSEN is the deeply personal and profoundly contemporary musical about life and the way we live it.
DEAR EVAN HANSEN has struck a remarkable chord with audiences and critics everywhere, including The Washington Post who says DEAR EVAN HANSEN is "Theatrical magic. One of the most remarkable shows in musical theatre history." The New York Times calls it "a breathtaking knockout of a musical." And NBC Nightly News declares the musical "an anthem resonating on Broadway and beyond."
DEAR EVAN HANSEN features a book by Tony Award winner Steven Levenson, a score by Grammy®, Tony® and Academy Award® winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman), and direction by four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal).

I love musical theater and this was the first show I've ever seen that took the audience on an emotional journey. There was so much stillness through the audience during the quiet moments and a few scenes in particular that my hands were sweaty and tense. The acting from the entire cast was superb.
Having seen the original Broadway cast in NYC, I thought this tour was comparable both in production value and talent. The actors each put a bit of themselves into each role, giving the tour a bit of its own flavor. Cast was patient and personable outside the stage door after the show, making sure that anyone who wanted something signed had the opportunity.
This cast blew me out of the water! After listening to the Broadway cast soundtrack, I was worried about seeing another cast do this show. But I was more than impressed. The cast made these characters their own while holding true to the sounds of the original. We went to stage door after the show and all but one cast member (who had visitors to the show) came out and signed autographs. Highly recommend!
I would go and see this again in a heartbeat! The message is so powerful and it moved me to tears! It brings attention to a growing issue among high school teens.
Theatre was very uncomfortable, seats are so small no room at all. In desperate need of an update. The actual show was just Ok. Premise is based on a lie with no real resolution or consequences. The performers and music was good but show is forgettable as a whole.
Beautiful music and emotional journey. Chicago cast offered wonderful performances - all strong.
It is a musical for teenagers and their parents. I doubt anyone over 40 who doesn't deal, or hasn't dealt, with living through their child's adolescent years will appreciate the play
I recognize that it's important for shows like this to be made and seen. Mental health issues are an important and relevant topic for all. Most teenagers and their parents should see the show. However, the only 2 things that kept us staying for the whole show was the set (which was imaginative and interesting) and wanting to find out how a story based on such a big lie was going to end. I thought the ending was weak-not many consequences for Evan based on what he did.
My daughter (age 16) and I LOVED this performance! I love the songs and the cast sang beautifully. Thank goodness I brought tissues because I used a lot of them. We would see it again in a heartbeat.
Bring tissues! This show is so worth seeing. The less you know about the show before seeing it, the better.
I'm not sure this show could have been any more awesome. My 13 year old daughter and I LOVED it. Make sure you've got some extra tissues handy!
I saw the original Broadway cast and was blown away. I was equally so by the touring cast. The show speaks for itself but was enhanced by the individual actors performances that were their own. Evan was a standout as was Conner and Ms Hanson. All were excellent and steady throughout the show. The show itself craftily guides the viewer through the full gamer of emotions while allowing us all to see the times when we felt alone and came out of it. Thanks to all.
Wonderful Show for parents and teens to see together.
My Headline says it all. From the extraordinary performance of Anthony (Evan), and the entire cast, this was a riveting performance. I saw the matinee on Wednesday, along with a full house at the Nederlander, all of whom appeared as spellbound as was I. The entire theatricality and staging concept alone could not help but grab your attention beyond the marvelous cast. It's no wonder this show will be returning to Chicago for a longer run next year. The entire concept of the show, teenage angst, suicide, parental conflict, acceptance, all of it, hits right at home and is a must see for adults and teenagers in total. The fact it is a musical makes it even more worthwhile. Don't miss it!
The performance and music were wonderful. A perfect message about identity, fitting in, and making difficult decisions. So realistic and moving for young and old.
I came into the show not knowing the subject matter. I did not read ahead, as I wanted to be surprised. And boy, was I surprised. As the parent of a teenage son, this was difficult to handle, and I could not sleep that night. But, the musicality, the acting, the voices, all amazing. Definitely worth seeing, no question.
I already want to see this show again, absolutely incredible. If you don’t see it, you’ll definitely be missing out!
I was expecting something good but what we got was something excellent… With depth and humor and great performances and an excellent score. I saw this with my 15-year-old grandson who loved it. Granted you will not believe this singing "oh what a beautiful morning" End it does tackle some very difficult subjects. But I would highly recommend it
Loved the show and it's message! Took my son to the stage door after the show. He loves meeting the ators and getting the playbill signed for his collection. After this show only three actors came out to sign playbills. Disappointing.
