A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he's always wanted: a chance to finally fit in. DEAR EVAN HANSEN is the deeply personal and profoundly contemporary musical about life and the way we live it.
DEAR EVAN HANSEN has struck a remarkable chord with audiences and critics everywhere, including The Washington Post who says DEAR EVAN HANSEN is "Theatrical magic. One of the most remarkable shows in musical theatre history." The New York Times calls it "a breathtaking knockout of a musical." And NBC Nightly News declares the musical "an anthem resonating on Broadway and beyond."
DEAR EVAN HANSEN features a book by Tony Award winner Steven Levenson, a score by Grammy®, Tony® and Academy Award® winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman), and direction by four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal).
A truly amazing show. The actors did not disappoint, voices were amazing!
The first act was wonderful. Ben Ross (playing Evan Hansen) has a fantastic voice! The second act was too drawn out with too many speaking parts. The ending was too abrupt.
I was fortunate enough to see dear Evan Hansen on Broadway last spring because my son lives in New York City. I know my daughter wanted to see this again in Chicago and I was not sure that we could compare it to our Broadway experience. But I am pleasantly wrong! The Chicago cast knocked it out of the ballpark. It was completely fabulous. Worthy of Broadway easily! Keep on sending The important messages of this musical. It is something we all need to hear and understand. So glad I got the chance to see it again in my hometown!
Dear Evan Hanson was a disappointment. Music was like a long recitative, not lyrical at all. First half was too much of a charicacture with feelings subdued. Second half had some feeling, but by then was too late. Clearly, many were there who knew the play because they laughed at the “right” places in unison, even though it was not that funny. Too light a production for such a heavy issue.
Excellent show, and very good performance by EH understudy. Just disappointed not to see featured actor in title role
We saw the original Broadway cast so expected to be underwhelmed by anyone other than Ben Platt. However, Ben Levi Ross was amazing! His performance was just perfect. If you have the chance to see the National Tour do not hesitate.
The acting was excellent and the story was engaging, but the music fell flat - no memorable tunes
Touring cast is first rate, every bit as strong as the Broadway cast we saw a few years ago. One of those shows we will see multiple times.
Even better than what I was expecting. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because of the horrific bathroom facility situation at the theater. It is ridiculous that women have to stand in line the entire intermission and still not get in.
A Beautiful story about growing up in the era of social media. A gem of a musical and great performances by all especially Ben Levi Ross!!
A really great theater experience! I would definitely go again and we really enjoyed the music.
A gorgeous show with a beautiful message. The music is great. A must see for any Broadway fan living in Chicago.
The show was incredible. You felt every emotion during the show. The music was amazing and the actors did a fantastic job!
Dear Evan Hansen was everything I expected. The story was stunning, the music beautiful and every actor excellent. I truly enjoyed this show. A show everyone should see and required for all teenagers.
We were so excited to see this show. Have been immersed in the music ever since it was released, and the show was rich and exciting on stage. It’s a beautiful, historic theater, but at the same time has great acoustics and modern comforts. We might be tempted to see it again when it returns next year!
The show was truly amazing. The actors were wonderful. I laughed and I cried. I've been listening to the soundtrack for about a year and a half and it was even better in person.
The show went above and beyond my expectations. The cast was undeniably talented and made a real connection with the audience. It will send you on a rollercoaster of emotions in the best way possible. Can't wait for it to be back in Chicago next summer!
I really enjoyed this show - the cast was very good. My only issue was the audio could have been a little louder and there were parts hard to hear.
I can't say enough good things about this show. I have been listening to the music for a couple of years and I read the libretto last year, so I thought I was prepared, but I still cried through the WHOLE SHOW! The acting was just astounding! Definitely coming back in 2020 and bringing my teenager
what an emotional experience!! We saw a matinee with the understudy lead role and cannot possibly imagine how it could have been portrayed any better. The music, the dialogue, the acting, the voices are captivating. Need proof? At one point, at least a quarter of the audience let out a gasp in unison, as a response to the action taking place on stage. Take a tissue or two with you. You will need it for those moments when 'something got caught in your eye' (wink, wink)
