About

A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he's always wanted: a chance to finally fit in. DEAR EVAN HANSEN is the deeply personal and profoundly contemporary musical about life and the way we live it.

DEAR EVAN HANSEN has struck a remarkable chord with audiences and critics everywhere, including The Washington Post who says DEAR EVAN HANSEN is "Theatrical magic. One of the most remarkable shows in musical theatre history." The New York Times calls it "a breathtaking knockout of a musical." And NBC Nightly News declares the musical "an anthem resonating on Broadway and beyond."

DEAR EVAN HANSEN features a book by Tony Award winner Steven Levenson, a score by Grammy®, Tony® and Academy Award® winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman), and direction by four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal).

    Absolutely Fantastic!

by Boxcar on 2/16/19James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

The play was even better than we had expected it to be! It told a very compelling story of how a young man humorously and sadly dealt with being a loner. If given the opportunity, we would see it again.

Best show- a must see. You feel every emotion, including joy! Many say it’s so sad— yes and it’s literally everything else, including funny, hopeful, etc. Took my 12, 15 and 17 year old kids and they loved it as much as i did. Ben Levi Ross’ voice is unforgettable. The story is modern, the music and the performance I give a solid 10!! Buy your tickets now.

    Bring lots of tissues.

by bluebadgergirl on 2/15/19James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

By far the most emotional and moving musical I have EVER seen. Everyone should see this! Even if you don't relate to it on a personal level the content behind this is something everyone should witness, especially in this day and age. Everyone hurts at some point in their life, everyone has felt awkward and uncomfortable when trying to talk to others..."Dear Evan Hansen" makes you think so much about the people in your life, family, friends, acquaintances and strangers and challenges you to be more compassionate, understanding, aware, and kind. Such a powerful message delivered with fantastic songs and enough humor so you have time to dig for a new tissue before the emotions hit you again. Well done!!

First, the theater was lovely. Second, I must say that I did see the show before in New York with Ben Platt. I tried not to compare the 2 performances. I wanted to see it again because it's a really good story. I did enjoy the Chicago version but thought the performances by the actors could have been stronger. I still would strongly recommend that others should see the play for the story and the great music.
