Classical ballet danced to James Brown and Aretha Franklin...WHO DOES THAT?! They did and it was fantabulously awesome!
I enjoyed the Dance Theatre of Harlem. They are great performers! I would highly recommend any event where they are present.
I have seen many ballet troupes perform...this one was by far the most amazing! The level of control and technical execution, the beautiful and unique choreography, and the passion that was evident throughout the night made for an unsurpassed performance. These dancers love their craft, and it is evident in every perfectly executed step!
Lovely venue...first time there. Amazing dancers. BUT...A weekday night, supposed to be from 8-10pm. Left during THIRD intermission at 10:00 with 6-7 dances left...BUMMER!
My entire family enjoyed the performance. From classical to contemporary, the ballet was inspiring and thrilling to watch.
The show was excellent!..A must see...recommend to everyone
Besides way too much talking at the beginning of the performance, the dancers quickly shifted the audience from boredom to enjoying a mesmerizing show. They performers are quite varied in their capabilities and each dancer has that special " thing" they do to keep you engaged.
The process of 'rebuilding' proved to be a major success for the company. The pointe work of the women and the exceptional partnering by the men places the company in the top ranks of balled companies, not just Black companies. I hope the public will respond to the great dancing and help build a permanent place for the company.
The tickets were for 7:30. The speeches started almost at 8. The speeches were too long and boring. The performance itself started almost an hour later than the time on the tickets. The performance was not as sharp as was expected.
I love watching dance performances and this was one of the best I've seen. The dancers danced so beautifully it inspired me to try to be like them one day.
Awesome blend of technical and soulful virtuosity!
great program I recommend others go see a great culture event for whole family
The dancers were amazing, especially Michaela. The music and the routines were beautifully matched, and varied enough to keep your interest. I would happily pay to see this same performance again.
This was my first ballet experience and I was blown away. I took my 7yr old Granddaughter who was on the edge of her seat the entire performance.
omg if you haven't experience this ballet do so....it's awesome.....I was impressed with this group...all I can say is loved it ....loved it....
We had great seats and the dancers were great. This was my first time at an event like this and I must say I was thoroughly impressed. I look forward to attending the next time they are in town.
From the opening number to the last, Dance Theater of Harlem is magnificent! They truly deliver something for everyone; from classical ballet to old school funk. Even if dance concerts are "not your thing," you will still be awed by many of the breathtaking technical feats. But they're not just outstanding dancers, they also dance with humor and feeling. No complaints about any aspect of this show. I do wish that audience members would realize that when the program says there will be a "pause," it does not mean intermission. This is not the time to get up and run to the snack bar! Sit tight for more awesomeness!
This was a phenomenal performance. The performers excuted each piece beautifully. I was engulfed in the outstanding scores of music and the precise yet graceful movement of the dancers. My only regret is that they were not punctual, but that did not take away from the performance and caliber of dancers. I would without a doubt recommend this performance of the Dance Theater of Harlem to others. I can always tell when I enjoyed myself because when I return home, I am dancing and moving as if I have danced for years. I transform into a ballerina(unsuccessfully). Needless to say, I was captivated by the skills and execution of the dancers. A marvelous performance.
The Dance Theatre of Harlem's performance was spectacular! I am so glad that they are back!I I loved Gloria and Swan Lake, but Contested Space was very different and left me speechless! Da' Von Doane is an unbelievable dancer!!!!
The first act was fluid, just as a ballet should be; and each set thereafter, flowed beautifully with the music and theme. My two favorites was the first solo ballerina, and the other that had a hint of spunk, that was perfectly fitting....I loved it!! TWO THUMBS WAY UP
