Dallas Mavericks History

The Mavericks joined the NBA as an expansion franchise in the 1980–81 season, becoming the league’s third team in Texas, joining the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets. The Mavericks struggled in their inaugural season, but quickly improved with Mark Aguirre, who became the franchise's first All-Star and took the team to their first playoff series in the 1983–84 season. The Mavericks went on to qualify for the playoffs for four more consecutive seasons, culminating in a trip to the Western Conference Finals in 1987–88. They came within one win of the NBA Finals, losing to the Lakers in seven games.

Dallas struggled throughout the '90s, but a new era began when the Mavericks acquired Dirk Nowitzki in 1998. Ownership of the team was sold to Mark Cuban in January of 2000. Cuban immediately began to revitalize the franchise, building around a central trio of Nowitzki, point guard Steve Nash and wing Michael Finley. In Cuban's inaugural year owning the Mavericks, they made the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. This began a streak in which they qualified for the playoffs for 12 consecutive seasons. In the 2011 NBA Finals, they defeated the HEAT in six games to win the only championship in franchise history.

Nowitzki retired in 2019 and passed the torch to Luka Dončić, who led the Mavericks to four straight playoff berths, including the 2022 Western Conference Finals and 2024 NBA Finals.

  • Overpriced

by Kayzee on 10/27/24American Airlines Center - DallasRating: 1 out of 5

Paid $180 for 3 seats to the Dallas mavericks home opener. And let me tell you that 3/4 of the game I was standing up and my child was overwhelmed due to so many people walking thru our row and section versus them going the other way. My section was 2 rows with 5 seats & 6 seats. I wish there was a disclaimer when I bought the tickets saying high volumes walked area. My child was overwhelmed standing up and sitting down and dropped the popcorn because someone walking by bumped into my child

  • Game was great

by Anonymous on 10/20/24American Airlines Center - DallasRating: 3 out of 5

The game was great! Everything was mediocre. Parking was $45 for a preseason game….gross. All the food besides pizza/nachos was nasty. Eat before you get there

  • Fun

by Mike on 8/7/24Rating: 5 out of 5

Even though the mavs lost. We enjoyed the game. As frequent attendance and sporting events the game was a blast. The fan energy was fun despite losing the game. The PA announcer every quarter announces twooo minutes! Every where we go, we ask when will we be there? Oone of us will respond the way the PA announcer says itn. In Threeee minutes, or however much time we have

  • Amenities

by Dennis on 6/20/24American Airlines Center - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

It was nice having plenty of concessions and merch shops open for the watch party. The planners and organizers kept the excitement up as much as possible, even with giveaways and entertainment during commercial time outs.

by Trey on 6/20/24American Airlines Center - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing experience once again! I’ve been going to these watch parties since 2011, and have had better experiences than the live games. The interactions with the fans, dancers, and the MAVS crew has made memories that will last a lifetime!

  • 1@95

by First NBA Finals Since on 6/18/24American Airlines Center - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Staff were professional & courteous even when I was decked out in Celtics gear. Mavs are a class act and the greater operational execution at AAC is unrivalled. After also Going TD Garden tonight for G5 and as a Celtics fan, I shameful admit AAC does better in every aspect in service delivery. With the exception of the scoreboard and championship.

  • It was awesome

  • Great seat but…..

by OG Maverick on 6/17/24American Airlines Center - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

Amazing seat, but 2 entitled mommies boys kept standing for no reason and before anything happened on the court. The venue staff said they were allowed to stand and block the view as much as they wanted.
