I saw them ten years ago. They're better now. And, this was the right venue for them. Very quiet, respectful crowd. I will go see them again next month in Connecticut when they come back around. Margo gets all the attention but my favorite moment was on guitar: Fading a single note all the way down to silent, and then bringing it all the way back to crescendo.

by scott126 on 4/23/10The Concert Hall - New Yorkbored stiff by this show, along with a terrible sound mix
Rating: 4 out of 5 Margot sounded great; band was tight.
by Anonymous on 10/7/09The Ark - Ann ArborThe show was great I love the ARK in A2 as a venue. My only disappointment was that popular songs (Miles from Home, Anniversary Song, My Wild Child) were not played. I most likely will not go to see them again unless the set list is published in advance.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Cowboy Junkies ALWAYS ROCK! FANTASTIC Show!
by Anonymous on 10/7/09The Ark - Ann ArborThis was one of the best Cowboy Junkies show ever. They were meant for small venues and they did not disappoint. THEY ARE A FABULOUS BAND. OMG!

Rating: 4 out of 5 Junkies continue to amaze
by rabennies on 10/6/09The Ark - Ann ArborI do recommend the Junkies, and love them, but sometime seemed a little...off last night. Maybe Margo was sick, but her voice didn't shine as it has in past performances. She seemed to be quieter, but maybe it was the venue. Good acoustics, esp. for bass. Loved the opening band, Lee Harvey Osmond...got their cd and it ROCKS! Looking forward to the new Junkies cd!
Rating: 5 out of 5 Margo & the Timmins Brothers & Alan & Jeff
by IronHeadFred on 7/21/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoWOW, What a show. Especially being there front row center stage. I felt each songs lyrics and beat of musical notes right down into my soul. Kinda like "I sold my soul for Rock n Roll" music fusion of jazz/blues/country/rock/electric with the voice of an angel taking you on a trip and not paying for the flight:-) DEFINATELY hard to put a face value on the market price of tickets these days, if it were another couple hundred for tickets/dinner/room package deal - I'd still do it.
Rating: 3 out of 5 Cowboy Junkies and Son Volt just OK
by BeatlesDisciple on 7/21/09Aladdin Theater - PortlandBoth groups were professional, as usual, but not very inspiring. Gotta be in the mood for the largely morose Junkies, I suppose. But they certainly weren't bad by any stretch. Son Volt played every song off their new album, "American Central Dust", which is also pretty much of a downer and devoid of any rockers. This is the 6th time I've seen 'em and easily the least entertaining. I do admire the fact that Jay Farrar doesn’t want do the same album over and over. But dude, you gotta crank up the amps for a few tunes at least. After all, you do it so damn well!

by edsorbit on 7/21/09Montalvo - SaratogaLove the Junkies, love their music...and Montalvo is a beautiful place for an outdoor concert. They are a great band with great music. Margo invites the audience into the concert wonderfully.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Son Volt & Cowboy Junkies
by blackfrancis45 on 7/20/09Aladdin Theater - PortlandI am a die hard Jay Farrar fan so I knew that Son Volt would just steal the show. I wasn't familiar with Cowboy Junkies but I really enjoyed their Neil Young and Rolling Stones covers. The new line up of Son Volt really surprised me. They rocked just as much if not more than the original line up of Mike Heidorn and The Boquist brothers. In any case, if you get a chance to see them on this tour do so.
Rating: 4 out of 5 Excellent Show - Too Short
by Este on 7/20/09Aladdin Theater - PortlandCowboy Junkies rolled out alot of new songs for this set as well as some not as well known oldies. None from their lastest album, but 4-5 new songs including a new acoustic song with just Micheal and Margo. The BIG drawback was they were co-headliners with Son Volt and played first, so that half that house left after the Junkies were done and the Junkies set was WAY too short at just I hour and a song, plus a one song encore (total time on stage one hour and 20 minutes) which was just long enough to get going but not long enough for a full concert experience. Great Show, though and would go again.
Rating: 3 out of 5 I wanted to love it.
by rationalthinker on 7/20/09Aladdin Theater - PortlandI have listened to both of these bands for several years and will continue to purchase the music. I was dissapointed that the sound wasn't more balanced for both the bands. The instruments were mostly too loud to hear the vocals. My boyfriend and I left after 3 songs of Son Volt. I know that Son Volt vocals are always a bit muffled and that is part of their sound. However the drumming was too overpowering. I think I will only attend musical performances at the Alladin that are acoustic. I'm sorry it wasn't a great night for us.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Amazing Show
by Ybnormal on 7/20/09Aladdin Theater - PortlandThe show exceeded all my expectations! The Cowboy Junkies were amazing. Getting to hear Margot's voice live was a real treat! The whole band is so talented and such an experience to hear play together. I was surprised to see Cowboy Junkies play first. Son Volt was very good, but their sound quality was lacking and it was impossible to hear more than the occasional word of the lyrics. Cowboy Junkies vocals were quite clear so I really believe distortion from Son Volt's sound equipment was the problem. Son Volt played well together and were great... I just wish I could have heard the lyrics too. I would most definitely recommend this show to anyone considering going!
Rating: 3 out of 5 Wonderful music - - - just played too briefly ...
by CautionHorses on 7/20/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoThis is one of my all-time favorite bands ... I NEVER miss a show they do at Humphrey's - - - and Margo's voice was perfection, as was the music. Simply, they played too briefly - - the show was just too short. We did the dinner ticket deal, and ended up paying a fair amount for an evening's worth of entertainment, and it just didn't feel as if we got our money's worth. Yes, I continue to recommend them, because they are so talented. And, Son Volt was a nice surprise - - - he played for a good long time, so no complaints there. Margo always talks about Humphrey's being one of her favorite venues, so I am surprised she didn't hang out longer on that killer stage. I am confused!! Of course we will come back to see them, I just hope they honor us with more tunes next time.

Rating: 5 out of 5 Cowboy Junkies don't disappoint
by Jewelart on 7/19/09Montalvo - SaratogaMontalvo is an amazing venue, a warm summer evening with beautiful music. My only disappointment was I wanted Cowboy Junkies to play longer. Margeaux has an amazing voice.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Thanks Cowboy Junkies!
by flowershots on 7/18/09Montalvo - SaratogaAs always I was thrilled to be in the presence of these amazing musicians. I thought the show was great, loved the choice of songs, and all in a beautiful venue. I think there was a little distortion for a while which the band noticed but that was it; it was otherwise perfect. It was great to hear a couple new songs as well as others I hadn't heard before (one was a Neil Young song). I really am glad they had Son Volt play too. It was a great evening.

Rating: 2 out of 5 Disconnected and Disappointing
by tmoco on 7/18/09Montalvo - SaratogaI love the music of the Cowboy Junkies, but the band's performance last night at Montalvo Center for the Arts in Saratoga, California will be the one and only time I ever see them live. They are very intense and "inward" with with their music -- so much so that there is virtually no connection among the band members or with the audience. Even front woman Margot was totally in her own world half the time....wandering around and off the stage on more than one occasion in a kind of trance. As I think about it 24 hours later...it -- they -- seemed fairly strange. Not at all what I attend a live performance to experience...
Rating: 5 out of 5 As Good As Ever
by jLayne on 7/18/09Montalvo - SaratogaI can't remember all the times I've seen CJ over the years but they are dependable! They don't have bad shows. Things may go wrong here or there, but they're so raw & proficient at what they do, that they can just flow with what happens.
