    Very disappointed

by Jetsam on 7/9/09Ogden Theatre - Denver

The sound mix for Son Volt, who I like a lot, was terrible. Plus, for an opening act, they played too long. On the other hand the Cowboy Junkies set was too short and had no emotion. And, if the songs they played off their forthcoming album are any indication, skip it.

    cowboyjunkiesatogden-nofun

by dissapointedinogdentheatr on 7/9/09Ogden Theatre - Denver

i was terribly dissapointed in seeing the cowboy junkies at the ogden theatre. first and foremost it was unbelievably hot and muggie and downright uncomfortable being in that tiny cramped theatre on a hot summer nite. I was dieing in there. also, i guess the show just was too monotonous for me. i remember cowboy junkies when they were in the 80s and the trinity revisited album is good, but i so cannot stand any of their newer stuff. so monotone, gawd, i needed to pinch myself just to stay awake. also,. for people with various health challenges and or disabilities, i would say stay away from this theatre in summer. without AC, you could wind up needing a paramedic, and the wait staff seemed alittle stingy on the ice water. so sad, honestly, i usually enjoy all my concerts but am appreciative to be able to have this opportunity to share this info. bye.

    Awesome

by brett on 7/9/09Ogden Theatre - Denver

These 2 bands both were really good. While both of them have not seen radio success like others, they are both extremely talented bands. Son Volt started quietly with a great group of acoustic based numbers and then built to a very strong electric finish. The Cowboy Junkies may be at their best, with some amazing new music. They put on a great show that kept us there to the finish. Highly recommend seeing this show.

    Cowboy Junkies awesome as always!!!!!

    by peg0404 on 7/9/09Ogden Theatre - Denver

I always enjoy having the Ultimate Cowboy Junkie experience. I have been a huge fan since 1992. They are timeless and sound as great as the first time I ever saw them. it was interesting hearing the crowd scream "Rock in Roll". I wondered if they had ever even listened to the sultry , sometimes somber and senuous voice of Margo Timmins before. I dont quite classisfy them as a "Rock and Roll" band. They are in a class of their own. ***On a down note. I did not care for the Ogden Theater as the showing for these bands. The acoutics were terrible and there was only standing room. For us in the older fan section that makes it hard for us to enjoy the event.

    Needed some work

by COWBOYFAN on 7/9/09Ogden Theatre - Denver

Son Volt was actually pretty good. However, we could not understand the vocals very well. COWBOY JUNKIES - a little disappointing. Could barely hear her singing until she belted out a tune. Didn't appear that she was into the concert. I love their music but we totally could not hear her singing a majority of the songs. They need to realize that there are people sitting up above and play to them as well. Venue was hot, but hey, its summertime. Could have used more stools at the top!

    Cowboy Junkies

Liked the show. Had trouble hearing the vocals. The Ogden is a great venue. Not too hot on a hot summer eve.

What's up with over an hour of the warm up band?

by DisappointedCJFan on 7/9/09Ogden Theatre - Denver

Extremely disappointing concert experience! We go to a lot of concerts and this one hit a new low. The warm up band played until 9:15...they were not that good. Their mono-music and wall of guitars was very forgettable and monotonous. The main draw, the Cowboy Junkies...did not come on until after 9:45. Unfortunately, the accoustics and setup for their act was not well done. All in all, we would have been better off staying at home.

Next time around take a pass

by suza on 7/9/09Ogden Theatre - Denver

This was a dissapointing concert all around. Son Volt could have been playing the same song all night for all I know. Cowboy Junkies normally so good were so drab. No energy. By the end of the night I was hoping I made it back home still awake.

    Unbelievable Pairing

by pmonday on 7/9/09Ogden Theatre - Denver

I was astounded at this pairing, I've seen Son Volt headlining at the Fox Theater, I've seen Cowboy Junkies going back over a decade, always headlining. The two of them together was an amazing night, sort of like two great but shorter shows, put together into one with no downtime to grab beer. The venue was great and personal. I would say the downside is that the sets seemed a little short for both bands. The new music the Cowboy Junkies played was excellent as well. All I can say is I hope at least one collaboration comes out of this road trip, I think both bands would grow through being on stage together. Paul

    Good Bands that sounded awful

by mzklvr on 7/9/09Ogden Theatre - Denver

I was completely disappointed with both Son Volt and Cowboy Junkies because of the sound mixing. I was not very familiar with Son Volt's music but I had enjoyed what I had heard in the past. First off, it was way to loud. You could not even hear the lyrics. At first I though it was just me, but when they went off the stage, the crowd around me was talking about the sound quality. They mentioned that at least it would be corrected for the Cowboy Junkies. No such luck! I have followed the Cowboy Junkies for many years and I am a big fan but I could not stay and listen to their entire set. I don't know if the sound was so poor because of the accoustics of the location or the mixing but I was completely disappointed
