About

About Cincinnati Music Festival

Cincinnati is proud of its rich musical history. Most notably, the Queen City was home to the storied label King Records, whose imprint, Federal, issued the hit single "Please, Please, Please" from James Brown's first band, the Famous Flames.

It's quite fitting, then, that Cincinnati is also home to the Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G, one of the longest-running (and most successful) R&B and soul concerts in the U.S. Cofounded by promoter Dino Santangelo and George Wein initially as a jazz-focused festival, the multi-day event now consistently draws the genre's biggest names. For example, Brown eventually performed at the event — as have other soul and R&B luminaries, including Whitney Houston and her cousin, Dionne Warwick, along with Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Patti LaBelle, Mary J. Blige, Usher, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Al Green, Maxwell, and Ella Fitzgerald.

The Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G dates back to 1962, when it launched as the Ohio Valley Jazz Festival. The inaugural year of the fest boasted amazing talent — to name a few players, Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, and Sonny Rollins. The event moved around a bit in its early years, first from the Carthage Fairgrounds to Crosley Field — where, in 1964, John Coltrane, Count Basie, Lou Rawls, Aretha Franklin, and Dizzy Gillespie performed — and later from there to Riverfront Stadium, before the event eventually settled in to its current location of Paul Brown Stadium. Along the way, the concert expanded its focus to include soul, R&B, and even hip-hop, which grew its audience even more.

The festival also became known for many years as the Macy's Music Festival before being rechristened the Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G in 2015. What hasn't changed, however, is a commitment to booking top-notch talent that reaches multiple generations of music fans in Cincinnati and beyond.

    First And Last Show

by shellsaggit on 7/31/12Paul Brown Stadium - Cincinnati

This was my first and apparently my last time to see Maze perform and it was fantastic. All the acts were great especially the Ojays, i've never cared for Monica to much, but her performance changed my opinion about her totally, she was awesome. Overall the festival was great, i will be back next year. Also its going to take a great entertainer to fill Maze f/Franki B shoes.

    lineup

by alarwi on 7/31/12Paul Brown Stadium - Cincinnati

It was absolutely incredible. Enjoyed every act. Tom Joyner was very delightful and did a fine job of introductions. I felt that I could have enjoyed the temptations and o"jays, Charlie Wilson much longer along with Kem.

    I loved the concert

by PittsburghCee on 7/30/12Paul Brown Stadium - Cincinnati

The concert event itself was wonderful! However, I didnt like that there were literally, no restaurants to dine in downtown Cincinnatti. I liked the vendor stands w/ the food, but there was not ample seating to accommodate the amount of people there. We had to eat our food standing up in the hot sun. I didn't like that at all!

The Macy's Music Festival was an event of a lifetime! We plan to make this an annual event for us! We dance, we sang, we fell in love all over again! The line up was unbelievable! Charlie Wilson stole the show and took us all on the "Love Train" Looking forward to next year.

    Macy's Music Festival 2012 was a Blast!

by ClevelandRocks39 on 7/30/12Paul Brown Stadium - Cincinnati

Eric Bennet, Kem and the O'Jays by far were my favorite acts. They tore the house down. Charlie Wilson was OK, but a little too churchy for my taste. Maze was a hit, but I think Frankie might be approaching his final days on stage. The notes just don't belt out like they once used to. Nonetheless, he makes 65 look GREAT! I did not care for Monica's performance -- AT ALL! She has a beautiful voice, but her band drowned out her voice. I would recommend this event to someone who has never been; however, this is my second year and, unless they plan to have a PHENOMENAL line up next year, I do not think I will be coming back.

The Show goes on despite early Rain!

by Concert55 on 7/30/12Paul Brown Stadium - Cincinnati

Charlie Wilson was still going strong around 1 a.m. when we left. An early rain didn't dampen the spirit of the crowd for good music. Ledisi, Eric Benet, Kem and Charlie all gave their all. Our first time at the Fest and looking forward to next year already.

Everyone that performed was great even the new talent introduced. Monica kinda took the concert down because she talked too much and sung others songs. Our seating was great, love aisle seats next time hopefully not the aisle used by ticket holders to get to the seats on the field, very distracting, not to mention you are bumped with purses, etc. Overall great concert.
