About Cincinnati Music Festival
Cincinnati is proud of its rich musical history. Most notably, the Queen City was home to the storied label King Records, whose imprint, Federal, issued the hit single "Please, Please, Please" from James Brown's first band, the Famous Flames.
It's quite fitting, then, that Cincinnati is also home to the Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G, one of the longest-running (and most successful) R&B and soul concerts in the U.S. Cofounded by promoter Dino Santangelo and George Wein initially as a jazz-focused festival, the multi-day event now consistently draws the genre's biggest names. For example, Brown eventually performed at the event — as have other soul and R&B luminaries, including Whitney Houston and her cousin, Dionne Warwick, along with Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Patti LaBelle, Mary J. Blige, Usher, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Al Green, Maxwell, and Ella Fitzgerald.
The Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G dates back to 1962, when it launched as the Ohio Valley Jazz Festival. The inaugural year of the fest boasted amazing talent — to name a few players, Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, and Sonny Rollins. The event moved around a bit in its early years, first from the Carthage Fairgrounds to Crosley Field — where, in 1964, John Coltrane, Count Basie, Lou Rawls, Aretha Franklin, and Dizzy Gillespie performed — and later from there to Riverfront Stadium, before the event eventually settled in to its current location of Paul Brown Stadium. Along the way, the concert expanded its focus to include soul, R&B, and even hip-hop, which grew its audience even more.
The festival also became known for many years as the Macy's Music Festival before being rechristened the Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G in 2015. What hasn't changed, however, is a commitment to booking top-notch talent that reaches multiple generations of music fans in Cincinnati and beyond.
Great concert. Great artists this year. Really appreciate the samples given out during the concert. Will be returning again next year.
A spectacular line up with two stages and short intermission time between acts. Cinncinnati was the perfect host to this splendid 3 night event. I'm making plans on making this an annual event.
This Festival is so underrated. The lineup was amazing. I will be back next year.
have not been to the music festival since was before the pandemic. Enjoy my excellent seats and the entertainment. I will definitely be back next year!
My expectations weren’t really high the lineup in my opinion wasn’t that good but what a show from Gerald Albright to Midnight Star to Jill & BabyFace it was good I haven’t been in years but we really enjoyed the show
The experience I had in Cincinnati was amazing. The performances were awesome!!!!
It was nice but the camera man was panning on the audience to much during performances. I came to see Jill Scott, Baby Face, Al Green, Jodeci ,Snoop, and all the other entertainers, not Joe Blow or Tanisha from the block.
Enjoyed every minute of the two nights I spent at the Cincinnati Music Festival. I don't have a single complaint.
I loved it…going back next year bringing my adult children
I like many others I spoke with each night would have preferred a different Head Liner each night. I can't explain why someone. Anyone thought Al Green should be there. Worst yet as a Head Liner. I left the Stadium. Snoop is Great. Snoop is Rap. Not for my taste or this crowd. Jill Scott and Babyface would have served better as your closers.
Gerald Albright and Norman started the party and they were Awesome! Jill Scott was sooo cold with her vibe and range! Jodeci took us back and we were jamming!! Avery Sunshine stole the show!!! She has some pipes on her and took us to church! Snoop dogggg had us partying with all the hits! Loved his shoot outs to Pac and Biggie! We had a blast!
Had a fabulous time at the Cincinnati music festival this weekend. Went both Friday and Saturday night. Enjoyed all the entertainers, what a show they put on! The weather was great too! One of the best shows I have been to! I hope next year 2024 they will have another great line up. Plan to attend. Keep up the great work Cincinnati……
Amazing time, loved the more diverse crowd this year!
Omg,I had a wonderful time the whole weekend.I will definetly be making this a tradition for me and my family every year.
I enjoyed the concert I will be back next year. They need to make a announcement at the beginning of the year so people can book tickets and hotels.
All of the performers were great no one disappointed Didn’t know about the clear bag situation and had to buy a locker but Saturday night I had my clear bag other than that great time with my family flying in from Philly So get us Bruno Mars I’ll pay for him Thanks for everything
This was our first time experiencing the music festival, when I tell you that we had a good time; “We had a good time!” The hip hop lineup was great and Dougie Fresh, showed up and showed out! Friday and Saturday nights shows were great!! We’ve already booked our rooms for next year, I can’t wait!!!
First time I've been to Cincinnati Music Festival. I really enjoyed myself it was organized very well, started on time, people were friendly no drama. Everyone had a great time.
The 2023 Cincinnati Music Festival was amazing. My wife and I had a wonderful time. We’re definitely going back next year.
I had a good seat, on the field, row 25 for the Friday night show, AL Green headlining. The stage set-up was awkward, with sound equipment in the center, and stages on each side. I understand the logistical reason, with five artists performing, but similar concerts have used one center stage with crews swapping out equipment between each set. There was also logistical problems with entering the stadium. Field seating had a special entrance that needed more directional signs. The gate entrance also should have been on the (electronic) ticket. The show was great, everyone performed well. The new Black Music Walk of Fame should have been opened on Thursday. One night of the Music Festival's crowd couldn't see the walk.
