About

About Cincinnati Music Festival

Cincinnati is proud of its rich musical history. Most notably, the Queen City was home to the storied label King Records, whose imprint, Federal, issued the hit single "Please, Please, Please" from James Brown's first band, the Famous Flames.

It's quite fitting, then, that Cincinnati is also home to the Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G, one of the longest-running (and most successful) R&B and soul concerts in the U.S. Cofounded by promoter Dino Santangelo and George Wein initially as a jazz-focused festival, the multi-day event now consistently draws the genre's biggest names. For example, Brown eventually performed at the event — as have other soul and R&B luminaries, including Whitney Houston and her cousin, Dionne Warwick, along with Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Patti LaBelle, Mary J. Blige, Usher, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Al Green, Maxwell, and Ella Fitzgerald.

The Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G dates back to 1962, when it launched as the Ohio Valley Jazz Festival. The inaugural year of the fest boasted amazing talent — to name a few players, Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, and Sonny Rollins. The event moved around a bit in its early years, first from the Carthage Fairgrounds to Crosley Field — where, in 1964, John Coltrane, Count Basie, Lou Rawls, Aretha Franklin, and Dizzy Gillespie performed — and later from there to Riverfront Stadium, before the event eventually settled in to its current location of Paul Brown Stadium. Along the way, the concert expanded its focus to include soul, R&B, and even hip-hop, which grew its audience even more.

The festival also became known for many years as the Macy's Music Festival before being rechristened the Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G in 2015. What hasn't changed, however, is a commitment to booking top-notch talent that reaches multiple generations of music fans in Cincinnati and beyond.

    Babyface was the concert !

    by deb on 7/25/23

Mr. Babyface took the floor and the show. He sang a lot of the songs he wrote for different artists. He was very entertaining; Anita Baker should be scared to have on him on her tour. Lol

    Great view, horrible seating arrangements

    by Chanta on 7/25/23

This year I got floor view seats, in which I had a great view. However the seating was horrible. The chairs were very uncomfortable (fold up lawn chairs for children). No room to move elbow to elbow with people sitting next to me. Hopefully next year the seating arrangements will be together especially (floor seats)

    Cincinnati Music Festival 2023

    by Marlo on 7/25/23

This event is the best bargain in concert festival arenas. You have 2 nights of top notch performances for less than 200 dollars a day, wow what a bargain. The facility was clean, the employees were nice, and all of the free items from the sponsors was a nice touch. I've been attending this festival every year (minus the COVID19) years since 2016 and I've never been disappointed. See ya next year.

    Focus on the artist!

    by TP on 7/25/23

The camera staff members were horrible. They should have focus on the artist performing more throughout the concert then the people in the audience and backup band members. We didn't pay to come and see them.

    Cincinnati Music Festival

    by Lynn16 on 7/25/23

The Cincinnati Music Festival was excellent. I saw the shows on Friday and Saturday nights. Great idea to have 2 stages for a continuous seamless show. My first concert since the pandemic but I will be back next year.

    Great time in Cincinnati

    by Mserica on 7/24/23

I have not been to the festival since 2019. I was excited to see the artist. Jill Scott was awesome. Snoop did his thing. The line up was great and the energy was phenomenal. My seats were pretty good. I just wanted to get into the stadium, I eventually moved closer due to some empty spots. I met some really nice people. I will certainly consider going again next year.

    Good Time!

    by Lane on 7/24/23

The music fest was a good time. Our first time going. Did not know they were going to be so many vendors outside of the stadium. That was a pleasant surprise. If I had to find a negative, it would be the way the stage was set up. Overall, I really good time.

    Cincinnati music festival

    by Ohioid39 on 7/24/23

Enjoyed both days at the festival. Each group, artist took us on a musical journey. Sound was good & the screens helped if your seats were further back from the stage.
