Chicago Sky History

The Chicago Sky are an American professional basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The team played their first season in 2006, then qualified for their first postseason in 2013 before advancing to the Finals for the first time in 2014. Initially led by Sylvia Fowles, who won WNBA Defensive Player of the Year twice as a member of Chicago, the Sky experienced more success with 2015 MVP Elena Delle Donne and seven-time league assist leader Courtney Vandersloot. In 2021, the Chicago Sky won their first WNBA Championship with a squad featuring Vandersloot, Finals MVP Kahleah Copper and seven-time All-Star Candace Parker. After the Sky drafted Angel Reese in 2024, the rookie center set the WNBA record for highest single-season rebound average and later earned the league’s Peak Performer honor for rebounds.

Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena

The Wintrust Arena at McCormick Square, home of the Chicago Sky, is located in the Near South Side community in Chicago, Illinois. The 10,387-seat facility opened in 2017, though the Sky played their first full season at their new home court in 2018. The relocation marked a major change for the Chicago Sky, who previously played outside of their home city at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. The Sky share Wintrust Arena with the DePaul University Blue Demons men’s and women’s basketball teams.

  • "Clear" Health Screening

    by C. F. on 9/8/21Rating: 3 out of 5

Four of us attended game September 5, 2021. We were required to download "Clear" for health screening day of game to present at game after answering all the questions. Totally surprised when none of the four of us were asked to present our results which we had saved to present on our phones to attendant. Disappointing.

Four of us attended Sky vs. Aces on Sunday, Sept. 5th and were required to download and complete health screening before game. We were totally surprised that upon entry, no employees verified our information that we had on our phones.

  • Outstanding

by KD Wms on 8/18/21Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Game was a blast hard play on both ends. Chicago Sky upsets Liberty

  • DeeFence

by LeeJones on 8/18/21Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

We won! The stadium defense against the virus was a super Clean approach to ensure safety; and as with Chicago Sky, their deeFence was strategic for an overtime WIN!

  • Club seating gone wrong!

by KiaL on 7/13/21Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I parked in the garage that connected us right to the Wintrust Arena which was a plus because it was raining so we never got wet. We got inside the arena within 5 minutes. I purchased tickets for Section 109 for my daughters and I, which were perfect for seeing the court and included food and drinks, however we had to buy food and drinks because the person standing at Section 109 would not allow me to talk and tell her that was the Section I’m supposed to be in. She kept interrupting me and telling me we couldn’t get to concessions through that Section and that we had to go to Section 115 for food. So we followed her directions and after standing in a long line, I was annoyed and didn’t want to risk my daughters not getting food since the person guarding our section wouldn’t allow us in and made us go buy food, they were already starving by then, so I ended just buying our food and beverages. By the time we talked all the way back to Section 109 to be seated, the same woman approached us again telling us we can’t come through that Section and would need go to our Section to be seated so annoyingly I told her that I paid for Section 109 and was unsure of how to get to it. That’s when she says “oh I didn’t realize you “belong” in this section plus food and beverages are included in this section “. So I responded “that’s what I was trying to tell you but you shooed us away to go buy our own food”! It was just unreal, a lack in judgment on her part and total lack in communication and listen skills. They apologized profusely but the damage was already done. We were finally able to sit in our section, eat our paid-for food and enjoy the game. Everything wouldn’t been perfect had I got to enjoy one of the major perks of paying extra for club seating which was the food and beverages included but I didn’t get to and that sucked!

  • Best time

by Marie on 8/21/19Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

We came in from Cleveland, arena was clean upon arrival and wonderful venue. Only complaint would be not knowing about no bags allowed in arena. It was unsettling to leave my purse without preparing to.

by Lynneise on 7/13/19Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Went to the game with my husband and 3 kids ages 14, 9 and 7. The kids had a ball. No one asked for their tablet to play on. No one said "I'm bored." They were in awe! Close game, lots of fun. Easy to get into the arena as well.

  • First Time at New Arena

by Klud on 8/13/18Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The new arena is great, the seating is comfortable, ample, new, clean, and there are almost no bad seats in the house. The event itself is very family friend and, because it's so affordable to attend a WNBA game, you will find yourself among lots of young children, making for a very lively event, indeed. There are lots of promos - we happened to come on a night during Breast Cancer Awareness games, and received two small pink promotional balls - a great memento! Some seats also had an 'instant winner' voucher, and my instant win was a draw-string backpack. Every seat in the side aisles/rows (we sat in BB, 115) comes with inflatable bam bams. There were several breaks, with live entertainment like steppers/drum-lines and some fancy hoopshooting, during which WNBA t-shirt were also passed out to the crowd. The kids and adults were having a ball. The available foods are typical - pizza, hot dogs, burgers, also Coors, (miller lite?), and Full Moon, as well as spirits libations and wines. I would definitely go again - the game itself is very lively and entertaining - the women are phenomenal players, and we also noted a lot less chat and fouls going on on the court. More action, less friction (than NBA, imo). The Sky is a great team. I will add this - there is a McCormick Lyft / Uber surcharge of five bucks to the arena - if you can aim to get dropped off close, but not immediately there, I would do so.

  • So much fun!

    by bubmonster3 on 8/13/18Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I loved seeing the Chicago Sky vs CT Sun at Wintrust Arena - it's a small, intimate setting that allows you to be close to the action, and it's a very family friendly game with tons of young people and families in the stands. This is the most underrated sports event in Chicago and I highly recommend you check it out!

  • IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SKY WNBA!!

    by SkyFan1 on 8/5/18WINTRUST AREAN - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Each time the door is open for a Sky game, we are there. My school is located in the North Austin area. We have one or two bus loads of students, parents, staff and other guest. We make sure that we let the Sky staff know that we appreciate them for inviting us to the games year after year. Now that the Sky team is at the new state of the art WinTrust Arena. We make it to every game, and visit ALL of the vendors, that are on the second floor. The vendors always have cool give a-ways and cool games to play for the kids. My students always leave out with a goody bag full of items, they can use on a regular basis. I would encourage a family outing at the Sky home games. The D.J. is great, the Sky band and tumblers are great. I surely cannot forget about SKY GUY, HE IS GREAT TOO!! WE enjoyed hanging out with our former Sky member Candance Parker on July 22, 2018 for the Financial Literacy session for my students.
