Chicago Sky History

The Chicago Sky are an American professional basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The team played their first season in 2006, then qualified for their first postseason in 2013 before advancing to the Finals for the first time in 2014. Initially led by Sylvia Fowles, who won WNBA Defensive Player of the Year twice as a member of Chicago, the Sky experienced more success with 2015 MVP Elena Delle Donne and seven-time league assist leader Courtney Vandersloot. In 2021, the Chicago Sky won their first WNBA Championship with a squad featuring Vandersloot, Finals MVP Kahleah Copper and seven-time All-Star Candace Parker. After the Sky drafted Angel Reese in 2024, the rookie center set the WNBA record for highest single-season rebound average and later earned the league’s Peak Performer honor for rebounds.

Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena

The Wintrust Arena at McCormick Square, home of the Chicago Sky, is located in the Near South Side community in Chicago, Illinois. The 10,387-seat facility opened in 2017, though the Sky played their first full season at their new home court in 2018. The relocation marked a major change for the Chicago Sky, who previously played outside of their home city at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. The Sky share Wintrust Arena with the DePaul University Blue Demons men’s and women’s basketball teams.

  • These ladies are serious players

by Maoo on 7/23/09UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I had never been to a Sky game and didn't know what to expect. The ladies are amazing! They played a great game and WON! However, I wasn't too pleased with the arena. Our seats were in front of the television cameras and were covered over with a drape. We had to find other seats. Since there were quite a few empty seats we didn't have a problem finding some. Plan to see another Sky game in the future.

  • Sky's the limit

My daughter and I went to see these young ladies play for the first time. What a GREAT game! They played hard, had some awesome shots and best of all, they WON! The UIC pavillion is a great little arena, and access from the Eisenhower couldn't be easier. Next time we'll take the Blue Line to save on the parking costs. Food was a little pricey, but it always is at pro games. Go support the Sky, they are an awsome team!

Took my 10 yr old daughter to her 1st WNBA game. She loved it & her & dad had a great time. Very fun event & well run.

  • The Chicago Sky is better than watching the NBA...

by TheG on 7/20/09UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The Chicago Sky put on a fantastic show! The women are tremendous athletes and play a great game of basketball...WAY more intense than the NBA. I took my little sister who plays college basketball and she was on cloud nine. And the entertainment during stoppage time was 1st-rate. The tickets are a little expensive, but I'm definitely hoping to go again as much as I can.

  • I was impressed!

    by amotherof3 on 7/16/09UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

My daughter just started playing basketball, so I thought it would be fun family outing to see a game. The tickets were inexpensive and the games are at the UIC Pavilion, so all seats are "good seats", as the gym isn't as large as the United Center. The parking was less than $20 and was right across from the Pavilion. There was a half-time show, a band played through-out the enitre game, there were gymnasts pumping up the crowd - it was great! I didn't find out about it until after I purchased my tickets, but there was a family 4-pack on the UIC Pavilion website offering 4 tickets, 4 t-shirts, 4 meal tickets, and a parking pass, for less than $80. Still, my tickets were pretty cheap and I even got one of them free. The food was priced just about the same as other venues, which can get to be expensive, but at least everything tasted good. We had Robinson's Ribs, Connie's Pizza, hot dogs, french fries, popcorn, and sodas. I think we spent about $65 for 6 people.

I had an amazing time at this home opener Sky Game! Not only were the player awesome but, the there was never a dull moment!! I went with my daughters 2 & 11yrs old and my mother in law, we all had a goodtime. You would have never had fun and interaction from the crowd like this at a Bulls game. We can't wait to go back.

  • Chicago Sky Games are Super Fun!

    by Scoobydi24 on 7/12/09UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I have to say that I haven't been the biggest WNBA fan, but I am now! I took my father and my uncle with me to the game. They are both in their late 70's, both retired public school administrators, and have always supported girls' athletics, so this was right up their alley. We had a great time at the game and watched some excellent basketball. The entertainment during the time-outs was fantastic. I highly recommend this event to anyone, with kids or with adults.

  • Funfilled Event!

by Cabo on 7/11/09UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed the Fly Kids and the Flyers. I would prefer not to endure seeing children run to the floor for the Cha Cha slide. The Half Time show we saw was the fashion show. I could not understand who or where they are from. Maybe try choosing something to entertain both young and old.

  • fly kids were great!

by refraff on 7/11/09UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Easy location to get to--UIC Pavillion. Ticket prices were reasonable. Parking admission seemed just a little steep. The venue was OK, announcer hard to understand, didn't like that the scoreboard was at the end of the arena. No one around us seemed to get the 1/2 time fashion show. The Fly kids entertainment was great during time outs and quarters. SKY Guy was fun to watch. It was go green night and the give aways were neat. All of the SKY staff members there were very friendly!
