Chicago Sky History

The Chicago Sky are an American professional basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The team played their first season in 2006, then qualified for their first postseason in 2013 before advancing to the Finals for the first time in 2014. Initially led by Sylvia Fowles, who won WNBA Defensive Player of the Year twice as a member of Chicago, the Sky experienced more success with 2015 MVP Elena Delle Donne and seven-time league assist leader Courtney Vandersloot. In 2021, the Chicago Sky won their first WNBA Championship with a squad featuring Vandersloot, Finals MVP Kahleah Copper and seven-time All-Star Candace Parker. After the Sky drafted Angel Reese in 2024, the rookie center set the WNBA record for highest single-season rebound average and later earned the league’s Peak Performer honor for rebounds.

Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena

The Wintrust Arena at McCormick Square, home of the Chicago Sky, is located in the Near South Side community in Chicago, Illinois. The 10,387-seat facility opened in 2017, though the Sky played their first full season at their new home court in 2018. The relocation marked a major change for the Chicago Sky, who previously played outside of their home city at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. The Sky share Wintrust Arena with the DePaul University Blue Demons men’s and women’s basketball teams.

  • Better than Bulls

by Jimbo on 6/30/24Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Overall great experience. Easy in and out at parking. First time at Wintrust and Sky game. Great vibe at the game with the spectators, the music and action of the game. Food was decent but needs a better flow, lines were big/slow. Family looking forward to another Sky game. Compared to a Bulls game, Sky wins!

  • Game EXCELLENT. Parking HORRIBLE

by Mardy on 6/26/24Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Game was fun, exciting and worth attending. Parking at Wintrust is a nightmare. Allow at least 30-45 minutes just to get into the parking garage.

This is a great place to see a game. My nieces and I really enjoyed our afternoon.

  • Great Game! Venue Feedback

by STLGirl on 6/26/24Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed the Sky game! We were fortunate to stay at an adjoining hotel to the arena, which made for convenient access. The Sky Game was filled with entertainment and great visual displays. My only negative experience was the discomfort of the seat in the arena. I am a larger body, who I typically fit in most venue seats, however the position of the cupholder in the Wintrust Arena Seats made it almost impossible to for me to fit. Just a word of caution to anyone with a larger body.

It was a smooth process entering the building! I love that you all have give a souvenir to the people, as we enter! Get keepsakes!

  • Loved to see Angel Reese

by Shae on 6/3/24Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

The entry was quick aside from having to check in my bag which I did not like. The pizza we got was ok. The place was clean. Staff were friendly. Hopefully the crowd grows so that they can engage more with the host.

  • Excellent experience

by AP on 5/28/24Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Oh my! What an amazing experience we had, me and my daughter 1st WNBA game was nothing short of amazing.

  • Nice Game

by WNBA Newbie on 5/28/24Wintrust Arena - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The arena is small but big at the same time. They do a great job of entertaining. I’m not sure if it was because of the season opener or if that’s the vibe. Honestly, I felt the players didn’t play as hard as they could have but there were definitely some standout players. Overall, I’d go again with more friends. 4 out of 5.

Had the best time of my life @ the Sky game on 8/20/2023 versus Connecticut ! Court side with my daughter for her 11th birthday was EVERYTHING to me ! The staff was great and so was the game, even tho we took a L (loss) … Definitely going to another game soon, especially if we make the playoffs

  • Always fun

    by N. s. on 8/17/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Chicago sky games are always fun to watch in person. No complaints at all.

  • Had enough and won't go back

    by Scott Y on 8/4/23Rating: 2 out of 5

It took forever to get into the game. The lines for security were long. They only had 2 metal detectors. By the time we got into the game, the 1st qtr was over and 2nd qtr has started. Then halftime, went to get drinks. By the time we got our drinks, there was 3 minutes left in the 3rd qtr. I want the WNBA to succeed but Wintrust Arena has to do better... This has happened twice and we may not go back. This was the try again moment. We will probably drive to Indiana instead next time or not go at all. Pay for parking and tickets and only watch half the game is ridiculous.
