About

CHEAP TRICK IN CONCERT:

More than four decades after their debut, hard rock titans Cheap Trick continue to possess the same energy and flair that made them an arena rock staple in the '70s. The band has enjoyed an unbroken run ever since their formation in 1973, and it's easy to see why — their chemistry on stage is undeniable, and they clearly have a blast as they treat fans to nostalgic performances of classics like "Surrender" and "The Flame." Back on the road in 2014 with fellow hard rockers Boston, Cheap Trick will bring their signature high-energy show to fans around the country on a string of highly anticipated dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Illinois in 1973, Cheap Trick recorded demos and toured throughout the Midwest before releasing their self-titled 1977 debut. The album failed to find an audience in the US, but it earned them a fan base in Europe and Japan, setting the stage for their future popularity stateside. While sophomore album In Color contained their highly regarded single "I Want You To Want Me," the band didn't make it onto the US charts until "Surrender" was released as the lead single of 1978's Heaven Tonight. By the early '80s the band was selling out arenas around the globe, achieving their most significant popularity in Japan, where enthusiasm over their tours reached Beatlemania-esque proportions. With more than four decades of hard-rocking live shows under their belts, Cheap Trick will bring plenty of veteran know-how with them on their upcoming tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"After 40 years of constant touring and albums, Cheap Trick still rocks! They put on an amazing show with lots of energy. They interacted with the audience and seem so accessible to the crowd."

"Real blast from the past. They haven't slowed down a bit and rocked the house."

"As always, Cheap Trick put on an awesome show. Robin Zander is the best lead singer on the planet & the playlist was great."

  • I did my part for the R&R Hall of Fame!

by KEHJNTKKIEHTJK on 5/3/10Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 5 out of 5

A fun filled afternoon/evening at one of the best venues in North Carolina! Some old time favorites opened, Georgia Satellites, ARS and the White Sox All Star Band! And, then the incredible Dave Mason Band came out. Dave's still got it man! And, Cheap Trick should officially be in the Hall of Fame!!! Their show was a truly awesome experience!!! All during the show, the other bands came out to mingle with the crowd, and show their support too, for Cheap Trick! We loved the show and love the venue.

This was my 48th Cheap Trick concert, so I may be somewhat jaded in my response. I have seen them everywhere from very small venues (The Mission in Raleigh, Cat's Cradle in Carrboro), to outdoor stadiums as headliners. This was the best show I've seen since the 25th Anniversary Show in their hometown of Rockford, Illinois in 1999. The really have seemed to open up the set list in the last several months, and I don't know if that is related to Bun E. not being on tour, but we are all luckier for it. We were treated to some real gems, from an opener of "Way Of The World" (which I can never recall ever hearing live), to an absolute killer version of Need Your Love that had me in goose bumps from the opening chords of Tom Petersson's gorgeous Waterstone 12-string "Peacock" bass, the most beautiful instrument he's ever toted to the stage. They even dipped deep into the bag for the tender Ballad Of TV Violence, from their debut album in 1977. California Man was also awaken from a set list membership coma, as it should be. They mixed in 4 songs from their current album "The Latest", the best of which was "Sick Man Of Europe", two minutes of killer power pop featuring the aforementioned Petterson dive bomb bass runs. Throw in the "Big 3" - I Want You To Want Me, Surrender, Dream Police, and my favorite encore closer "Auf Wiedersehen", and it was certainly a show to remember. Robin was in top form, demonstrating again he is one of the best, and most underrated vocalists in rock history, and Rick Nielsen was his usual playful self, ever the showman, but also proving he can really tear thru some power leads, as he did in Baby Love To Rock and Need Your Love. With Daxx Nielsen on on drums, they didn't really miss a beat, pun intended. After seeing shows like this, they should never be relegated to opening for anybody, and I hereby swear off future concerts when they are relegated to opening for inferior bands, which is just about everyone this side of AC/DC. RnR HOF, stay true to your word, these guys belong there. Last night was proof.

  • 2010 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Benefit

by Dave151 on 5/2/10Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 4 out of 5

Show was excellent. Low ticket sales and smaller crowd. Started on time or close to it. Bands were excellent but Dave Mason crapped out and didn't do an encore. I was hoping to hear Please Mister Fantasy or something from his Traffic days. The crowd applause petered out quickly after he left the stage and I guess he wasn't happy with the ovation so he said no when asked to come back by the MC. Georgia Satellite's and Atlanta Rhythm Section were outstanding and the All stars were fantastic too. You could see their years of talent and professionalism on display. Cheap Trick was outstanding as well. So many hits over so many years. All in all, a very very good show. Nice venue, but at the whim of the weather and luckily it was a good day. Easy to get to and bunches of friendly folks.

  • Allen White's All-Star Band

by AliceTopHat on 5/2/10Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 5 out of 5

Nice to see a mix of talents and syles, singing various artists' works. That is what the R & R Hall of Fame is all about. Showcasing the many parts that make up rock, no matter if it's something in the "Top 10" or 30 years old. They take "cover band" (supporting charities) to another level...maybe they should be headliners! Hail, hail yeah if they return next year for the THIRD Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Benefit Concert!!!

Cheap trick has a ton of hits and they only played 5 of them. The crowd was asleep for most of the show.

  • Cheap Trick Rocks! (as expected)

by BillBNorthCarolina on 5/2/10Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best Cheap Trick concerts I've been to, and I've been to quite a few. It was sad that Bun E wasn't there but Dax Nielsen is absolutely great.

  • Up to the headliner it was great!

by WilieNC on 5/2/10Koka Booth Amphitheatre At Regency Park - CaryRating: 3 out of 5

Wow, beautiful day in the sun. Great music - all of the acts were very good....up until Cheap Trick. :( The emcee had the nerve to solicit audience input as to whether they deserved to be in the R&R Hall of Fame. Not a chance. This band put a damper on the day....left early so as to get away from their nonsense. Wish we could have listened to the other acts longer and just cut out these guys. Not what was expected. Also, I thought it was a bit disingenuous of Dave Mason to mandate no cameras etc. for his act.....What's up with that?!? BTW, the venue was fabulous as always!

  • I loved the All-Star Band

It was a magical day. I went to the concert 2 years ago, and was worried this one might not be as good. I had no reason to worry.....it exceeded my expectations, and then some

It was my first time seeing Cheap Trick live, and they were amazing! They sound just like they did 30 years ago. And the other bands did not disappoint.

  • Cheap Trick still rocks

by Derbis on 3/31/10Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

This is the 4th time I have seen them since the late 70's. They are still an awesome, tight band. They sounded great!

  • Cheap Trick never disappoints their fans!

by Kmaero on 3/31/10Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Incredible set of old and new greats! They looked like they were having as much fun as I was! Beginning to end, they performed their tricks for all to see and proved why they are still and forever, the best damn rock and roll band on the road today!

  • Cheap Trick has not lost anything but Bun E Carlos

    by LesSmith48 on 3/30/10Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Cheap Trick 5 times in the last 7 years. The last show i seen them at was about year and half. They opened up for Heart & Def Leppard. It was an outside venue. I thought that Robins voice was not there anymore. Fast forward to last Sunday. They just blew me away. More than once i when they were doing old stuff from their Live Butakhan Album. I turned to my buddy and said "they are lipsyncing this, it sounds too good to be live. I watch them closely and they were not lipsyncing. Robins voice was a good as ever. And Rick Nielsen is flat amazing guitar player. I love this band. I was a teen when they first exploded on the scene and have followed them since 1976. Thank you Emerald Queen for bringing them to me again. I am hoping that you book them next year. I will be there.

  • Cheap Trick in Tacoma

    by gonzo66 on 3/30/10Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to well over 300 shows and Cheap Trick was one band I had not seen...Until 3/28. They absolutely delivered the goods. Mr Zander's voice is as strong as ever, hitting the high notes that have long been lost to so many. Rick Nielsen is one of the most under rated guitar players on the planet. Rick's son Daxx filled in for Bun E Carlos on drums and you could tell the two had many days of riffing because they were great. Mr Peterson is also no slouch on bass, the 12 string bass that is that he invented. All in all I would go see them again in a heartbeat. If you have not seen them and ever wanted to I highly recommend going.

  • Cheap Trick gets better with age!

    by Len812 on 3/30/10Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

This was the fifth time I've seen Cheap Trick live, the first time being back in 1982. This was by far the best show I've seen them do. The only thing I really missed was Bun E. Carlos on the drums, who isn't touring with the band for some reason. But, they played a great selection of songs from throughout their 30-plus year career and the band really had a tight, well produced sound. Plus, they just seem to have fun performing.

  • Two Simple Words...

Cheap Trick. Nothing more to say. This is how it's supposed to be.

  • Really fun concert!

    by Kato8484 on 3/29/10Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Cheap Trick knows how to rock the house and did a lot of tracks off the new cd. Really great show. They always put on a great show! Venue had strick camera policy and security were pretty uptight!
