About

CATS is the longest running musical in Broadway history, debuting in 1982 and finally closing on Broadway in September, 2000. Written by famed composer Andrew Lloyd Weber (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, The Phantom of the Opera) and based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, this musical still remains a favorite with audiences nationwide. CATS tells the story of the Jellicles, a tribe of cats who assemble for their annual junkyard ball where they announce the cat that will be reborn. "Memory," the show's most memorable song (sung by the character Grizabella) quickly became a pop vocal favorite and has been recorded by over 150 artists including Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow and Judy Collins. The show's appeal also appears to be universal, as it has been translated into over 20 languages. As time and ticket sales have proven, CATS is undoubtedly one of the most beloved stage musicals of all time.

The show was as real as the original and was almost a perfect copy as the original VHS tape we had . A couple extra songs were done in the second act that we had never scence on the Tape. We thouroughly enjoyed the performance.

This was my first sitting of the show and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I just wanted to jump up out of my seat and dance while singing along to it.

    Stylish cats

by Cheekapoo on 8/3/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

We liked the stage, costumes and lighting... But the dancers were incredible and many of them had vocal talents to match! Melissa Lyons' voice is superb. The second act is much more visually dynamic than the first which is slower in pace, with numbers that last a little too long... Overall, a beautiful performance.

    Cats was just O.K.

It was like watching Jazzercise on TV. Same sound, same dancing. Left at intermission with many others.

Good basic show. I found story not clear but dancing and some singing good. Only few songs, however, were good enough that i can say was really enjoyable. Too much of the same type of dance, however, in entire show.

    Cats! An unforgettable 'Memory'

by CatsLover on 8/2/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

Cats! is one of my favorite all-time musicals and I was surprisingly pleased by the amazing performance by the Cabrillo Music Theatre. I've seen Cats on Broadway, in Boston, and at least half dozen times in the Los Angeles area and wasn't quite sure what to expect from the local 'talent' in the Cabrillo Music Theatre group. Kudos to you all for a most enjoyable performance. Specifically, the diction was succinct, the dancing powerful, the orchestra 'right on', and the stage setting/props terrific! The accoustics at the Fred Kavli Theatre are marvelous and I'm considering becoming a season ticket holder even though the venue is an hour's drive from my home.

    I love cats and "CATS"

by rorasgram on 8/2/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

From the beginning I was captivated. I am a cat person so I could relate to their moves on stage. After the intermission it got a little slow, and I was confused about why they went to a ship scene, and oriental cats. Did not like that part much. It went on and finished with greatness. Loved it when the older cat sang her song; she made me cry

I saw this show with my 10 year old grand daughter who described the show as "awesome". It was so well done. The voices and dancing were top notch.

    CATS was really fabulous

by miggle on 8/2/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

The word "awesome" has been devalued so much that it is a shame that it must be avoided. "Cats" is a great musical by a genius composer, but it is very demanding of the performers' talent. The Cabrillo Music Theater's production not only did not disappoint, but it exceeded expectations. That is quite a feat given Cabrillo's record of excellence! Their ability to attract truly outstanding local talent is amazing!

I have always wanted to see t his production

by elton on 8/1/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

the second act was better than the 1st by leaps. The guy (black cat who kept leaping and doing spins in a ballerina way) was excellent. The lady who sang Memory was fantastic. The production took a while to capture the purpose of the production...The audience was somewhat naive to the message of the production and they were somewhat rude in the balcony area. All in all, a nice evening. thanks.

The choreography, the costumes, and the talent far surpassed anything we expected. Cabrillo did a great job with this play, and the Civic Arts Plaza is such a great venue. A thoroughly enjoyable evening....we took my daughter and her boyfriend for her 25th birthday and they loved it as well. Bravo!
