very disappointed with performance, left at intermission
The play from the story line to the scenery was excellent and entertaining. The only negative I would have to say was that it was sometime hard to understand the songs and that the end wrapped up to quickly. They could have cut one of the earlier acts and added another act on the end. Overall wonderful night of music and entertainment.
Not what we were expecting at all. The acting was sub par and the singing was even less. The sound man had no idea what he was doing bcs there wash static the entire time. We actually were SOOO disappointed that we left before the second act was even over which I've never done before. What a WASTE of $190.
Except for Arthur the characters were very forgettable; especially, Lancelot who never gave us a reason to believe why Guinevere could ever fall in love with him. The singing voices except for Arthur were at best average.
While the costumes and sets where very well done, I was disappointed in the music, acting and a lot of the songs. The acting appeared to be an attempt at humor throughout the musical. The music was canned and may have contributed to the lackof richness in most of the songs.
Let's start with scenery-elementary at best! The scene with the jousting on horseback was just so bad that it was laughable! At least in Montey Python version, they used coconuts to mimicking the horses galloping! Need I say more? The singing was like a high school performance. Gweneviere was definitely the best vocalist. Lancelot sang "if ever I should leave you" without any emotion! Although he has a nice voice, he was off key many times. In one scene, He stood there facing his one true love and never moved his arms or body! It was if his armor had no joints built in! He was worse than the tin man on a rainy day!!! I must say, the highlight of the show was Mordred! He gave us laughter, and believe me.....that's what we needed to do! Laugh! So frustrated I spent $100 per ticket for this event!
The show was wonderful. The last time I saw Camelot on stage, Robert Goulet played King Arthur. I don't think any performance will ever match his; however, it was a performance I thoroughly enjoyed and would see again.
I love the King Arthur legends and this particular account of the love triangle and Arthur's speech at the end of Act I. Would all the world's leaders be as merciful and rule with "might used for right" as Arthur did! I love the music from Camelot and thought the singers were excellent even though this version omitted two of my favorite songs ("I Loved You Once in Silence" and Guinevere's funny if bloodthirsty way of getting the knights to challenge Lancelot in the joust). On the whole, I enjoyed it and certainly would recommend that others see it.
I have enjoyed Camelot since the mid-1960's. I saw the movies, a live high school play 1969, I have listened to the music over and over. I play the piano music as well. The biggest draw back was some of the songs could have been more animated, especially with Lancelot, who has a great voice, singing "If Ever I Would Leave You" He was very still during this emotional love song.
This play was about what I expected but at the same time very entertaining. The first act was a bit long compared to the second. It had an overall run time of about 2.5 hours so prepare for that. The actor who played Arthur was pretty amazing. Singing and acting both he was very good!
Really enjoyed this show! Great actors, beautiful scenes. Loved all the songs.
Very enjoyable production of Camelot. I had never seen it before and thought it was incredible.
It was interesting seeing the stage play after having only seen the 1967 film. Very nicely done. I missed a couple of the songs from the film/original stage play soundtrack, particularly "Then You May Take Me To the Fair".
Not the best performance I have seen at EJ. It was good, and there were some wonderful moments. Overall, it was just ok. Arthur was at his best at the end of act 1 and with all his "propositions." Beautiful singing voices all around and a great set (loved the tree sculpture). Didn't like the portrayal of Guinevere at all, though she had a lovely voice. Unfortunately, it felt more like community theatre with a few bright spots than a professional performance.
Though an "old" story Camelots retelling was wonderful. It was wonderfully fresh and imaginative. A classic that should be shared with all ages.
Costumes and sets were exceptional. Acting great. Great chance to see a Broadway show. They have almost forgotten they exist today. It was a sell out both nights. Would love to see more.
My mother and I had terrific seats. Great show. I teach the Arthur trilogy to my students, so this was excellent.
The actors portrayed their characters just wonderfully. The songs were all catchy and the voices of everyone were awesome. The story was perfect, and the orchestra! Oh! I loved it! I fell in love with King Arthur and the actors just drew you in! You were unaware of the people surrounding you. Great great job.
In the first act, the song "Then You May Take Me to the Fair" was not included. In the second act, the song "I loved you once in Silence" was not included. These songs were part of the Lerner and Lowe version of "Camelot". This production was advertised as "Lerner and Lowe's Camelot", so I feel a little jipped that this production did not include ALL of the lovely songs from this show. The sets were rather low budget in appearance. And, I feel that I saw the Readers' Digest version of this great musical. King Arthur and Guenevere were good. Lancelot was ok, but flat at times. Mordred was great and brought some much needed life to the second act.
I have always been a fan of the film version of "Camelot," less because it's a musical and more because I love the story. Having said that (and not being a huge lover of musicals as a rule), the songs are great and I was surprised to find myself crying at the end. This stage version of "Camelot" is wonderful and brings to life everything about the story that I most like -- particularly that it's about love, but not just romantic love. It's about friendship and loyalty, and sacrifice, as well. It's also about the death of a dream and the hope that one day it will truly live again. The performances were excellent all the way around. The actor who portrayed Arthur was especially great, as I feel that if he were unlikeable or unsympathetic, you wouldn't have a story at all. I actually feel he embodied Richard Harris a bit while also making the role uniquely his. The actors who portrayed Lancelot and Guenevere were also wonderful, as was the supporting cast. I actually enjoyed the actor who played Mordred quite a lot, as well. It was really a fun time when he was on stage.
