About

CABARET’s famed ‘Kit Kat Club’ is returning to Sydney for a strictly limited season! A new Australian revival of one of the world’s most beloved musicals, experience the decadence of CABARET at Hayes Theatre Co from 9 January 2017.

Starring the mesmerising Paul Capsis as Emcee; the leading lady of musical theatre Chelsea Gibb as Sally Bowles and the incredible Marcus Graham as Ernst Ludwig, CABARET’s much loved songs and piercing message will ensure a wonderful and meaningful night out at the theatre.

With the brilliant Kate Fitzpatrick as Fräulein Schneider, the eminent John O’May as Herr Schultz and the popular Debora Krizak as Fräulein Kost, the talented cast also includes Jason Kos as Clifford Bradshaw, Michelle Barr as Fritzi, Nick Jones as Victor, Matthew Manahan as Gottfried and Michelle Smitheram as Helga.

Winner of 12 Tony Awards, 8 Academy Awards and 7 BAFTA’s, CABARET wows audiences and critics alike time and time again. Fifty years ago the original Broadway production made a household name of Joel Grey while just two years later an unassuming Judi Dench stole the show on London’s West End. Arguably the most iconic movie musical of all time, renowned director Bob Fosse made Liza Minnelli a silver screen star.

Based on The Berlin Stories by renowned author Christopher Isherwood, CABARET celebrates the sexual freedom and social liberation of 1930s Berlin. CABARET, adapted into musical form by Kander and Ebb, became Isherwood’s semi-biographical portrait of life on the edge.

    Cabernet was Disappointing !

    by Willow122 on 1/29/18Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

Having seen several Broadway plays in New York City, I was very excited to see Cabaret at the Tennessee Theater. Our seats were very good in the second row balcony. The sound was very low and distorted. We couldn’t understand a word the emcee said. He spoke in a over exaggerated accent that we couldn’t understand and with the volume so low we had no clue what he was saying. We wasn’t the only ones who couldn’t hear, we heard people around us saying they couldn’t hear either. The story of Cabaret is not good and the overall play is not good. It’s very disappointing to pay almost $200 for tickets to a show where you can’t even hear what anybody is saying and can’t understand the accent of the main character. I will never see Cabaret again and I would not recommend it to anyone. I am hoping the sound problem was with Cabaret and not with the TN Theater. I would like to attend other shows at the theater.

    It was awful!

by mavbsd on 1/29/18Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

I haven't seen the original version of this musical to compare, but something makes me think that the winner of so many awards could not be so vulgar. I expected to see some kind of theater event, possibly with some soft erotic for environment, but instead I become a witness of terrible porn and gay propaganda. Horrors of Nazism at least in this reincarnation of musical look like a minor tone to absolutely tasteless and uncovered other actions showing no any idea. I would never go to this event if I knew it in advance what it would be.

by Cindy853 on 1/13/18Kuss Auditorium at Clark State Performing Arts Center - Springfield

I have went to see Cabaret shows three times in my life. All from broadway shows to local dinner theatre. This group was by far my favorite. Their performance moved my soul. Amazing!!

    Not what I expected.

by Quann on 1/11/18Von Braun Center Concert Hall - Huntsville

What a disappointment! I bought four tickets for an afternoon with friends to celebrate the new year and was regretting it within the first 20 minutes of the show. I watched people get up and leave and after intermission there was several empty seats. Over the top raunchy and rude. A gorilla... really, what?

    Cabaret was shocking!

by DrShirley on 1/10/18Von Braun Center Concert Hall - Huntsville

This play stretches the audiences level of comfort.(Unless you hang out in strip bars and get lap dances on a regular basis.) I've seen the movie, but the play truly highlights how the invasion of the Nazi regime affected the lives of the people in Germany and created an atmosphere of fear. I enjoyed it and it made me think about that situation in Germany long after I left.

    Cabaret, yay!

by Helloitsmececi on 11/21/17Schoenberg Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Now, I understand this was a student run production. But I'm not going to review it as such. No excuses allowed. So I begin by saying I was so pleasantly surprised! Entertaining me at a live show is very difficult. This was entertaining! Special cudos to the MC, the Jewish Fruitvendor, the Nazi, the Blonde sailor lover and those Fabulous Kit Kat girls and boys! Made the show!!!!

    Cabaret...amazing talent

by Cathereine on 11/24/10University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - Buffalo

I would recommend seeing this play very highly. The actors and actresses were nothing short of amazing. Their voices were beautiful, accents totally believable and talent oozing. I felt as though i had stepped onto Broadway. This is the third time i have seen Cabaret; once on Broadway, once off Broadway and must say the third times a charm. The emcee, Fraulein Schneider, and Hare Schultz and Ludwig did a superb job ans did Sally.

A little dark, but outstanding performers

by KatWW on 6/9/10Macgowan Hall Little Theater - Los Angeles

I want to express that I had never seen Cabaret before. I was vaguely familiar with Liza Minelli having been the leading lady in the original film, but that is all. The music is of course great and the performers here did it a fantastic service. Leading Lady, Katie Boeck sung her heart out and wrenched out mine while watching. Also the young actress playing the landlord was stunning to watch. Both women are very talented. I was also impressed by the creativity of the lighting and overall fluidity of the show. One last shout out goes to the announcer. His voice is powerful when it needs to be and tender when it called for it. He is very enjoyable to watch. This show will entertain you for sure!

    Broadway is Next

by PWyatt on 6/6/10Macgowan Hall Little Theater - Los Angeles

This was an incredible show. The star of the show, Robby Dyess, was exceptional way beyond his years and should have a long career in show business. If these are the kinds of actors that UCLA's theater program attracts, it has to be the best.
