About

CABARET’s famed ‘Kit Kat Club’ is returning to Sydney for a strictly limited season! A new Australian revival of one of the world’s most beloved musicals, experience the decadence of CABARET at Hayes Theatre Co from 9 January 2017.

Starring the mesmerising Paul Capsis as Emcee; the leading lady of musical theatre Chelsea Gibb as Sally Bowles and the incredible Marcus Graham as Ernst Ludwig, CABARET’s much loved songs and piercing message will ensure a wonderful and meaningful night out at the theatre.

With the brilliant Kate Fitzpatrick as Fräulein Schneider, the eminent John O’May as Herr Schultz and the popular Debora Krizak as Fräulein Kost, the talented cast also includes Jason Kos as Clifford Bradshaw, Michelle Barr as Fritzi, Nick Jones as Victor, Matthew Manahan as Gottfried and Michelle Smitheram as Helga.

Winner of 12 Tony Awards, 8 Academy Awards and 7 BAFTA’s, CABARET wows audiences and critics alike time and time again. Fifty years ago the original Broadway production made a household name of Joel Grey while just two years later an unassuming Judi Dench stole the show on London’s West End. Arguably the most iconic movie musical of all time, renowned director Bob Fosse made Liza Minnelli a silver screen star.

Based on The Berlin Stories by renowned author Christopher Isherwood, CABARET celebrates the sexual freedom and social liberation of 1930s Berlin. CABARET, adapted into musical form by Kander and Ebb, became Isherwood’s semi-biographical portrait of life on the edge.

    Appropriate for the period

by Gracie36 on 9/5/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

Very enjoyable. The emcee was outstanding. The choreography was fun and the dancers were very good. I would have liked to see more of the dancing. All the actors and actresses were very good and were cast well except, maybe, the male lead (author). I felt he wasn't quite believable and i thought he might have been overacting; I must also include the landlady, she did a fantastic job.

    Cabaret

by Smichaud on 9/5/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

The show was outstanding! The stage set was very realistic and the story was so interesting that you couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. I've always loved musicals and this one did not disappoint. The singing and dancing was very entertaining. You could feel the actors emotions when they were acting and singing. It was a very affordable show in a great theater. There really aren't any bad seats. If you get the dinner/theater package it's a great value. The dinner however was average, but very convenient if you want to relax and not rush around. Everything is all there. Highly recommend "Cabaret," for a fun night out in the suburbs!

    Caberet was outstanding

by Judinka on 8/31/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

It was my third viewing of the play - once with Joel Grey, once with Allan Comings over a very long playgoing history. This production - which did not focus on the "name" lead host was the best. The ensemble was excellent, set design, sound design, choreography, costumes, casting of lead parts - all added up to a moving experience in the theatre. Thank you.

    Cabaret is outstanding!

by catblanche on 8/31/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

This is a fantastic show with an absolutely marvelous cast. I've seen Cabaret at the Schubert and other theaters and this ranks as the best as far as the story line, the cast and the staging. Forget what you think about "dinner" or "suburban" theater. This is definitely worth your time and a tremendous value. See this show - you won't be disappointed.

    Fantastic!

by szyq on 8/31/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

The show as amazing. The whole production was incredible with ALL of the performers, blowing you away with their voices. The dinner was incredible too. If you try the chicken asiago with the scalloped potatoes, you will not be disappointed. I had a fantastic experience. This was my first time at this theatre, and I would go back in a heatbeat.

    Cabaret was dynamic !

by readwell on 8/25/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

Singing--dancing--acting were superb! All the characters were terrific but especially Fraulein Schneider (Rebecca Finnegan) and Herr Schultz (David Lively). Some of their scenes were very touching . . Patrick Andrews was chillingly accurate in his role as Emcee. He portrayed himself as a combination of zest for life and personification of evil. It had just the right amount of irony combined with entertainment. It was startling to me, however, that so many of the comments I heard at intermission indicated that some people were unaware that Germany was really as it was portrayed in Cabaret in that era of chaos and turmoil and dichotomy between the realities of life and the decisions of the people involved to choose to ignore the consequences. ..

    Entertaining!!!

by danzmom on 8/16/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

This was a great performance right in our back yard. Great seats and talented performers. Why spend two to three times more plus pay for parking downtown when Oak Brook is right here? I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the actors who played the emcee and Sally on Broadway !
