About

CABARET’s famed ‘Kit Kat Club’ is returning to Sydney for a strictly limited season! A new Australian revival of one of the world’s most beloved musicals, experience the decadence of CABARET at Hayes Theatre Co from 9 January 2017.

Starring the mesmerising Paul Capsis as Emcee; the leading lady of musical theatre Chelsea Gibb as Sally Bowles and the incredible Marcus Graham as Ernst Ludwig, CABARET’s much loved songs and piercing message will ensure a wonderful and meaningful night out at the theatre.

With the brilliant Kate Fitzpatrick as Fräulein Schneider, the eminent John O’May as Herr Schultz and the popular Debora Krizak as Fräulein Kost, the talented cast also includes Jason Kos as Clifford Bradshaw, Michelle Barr as Fritzi, Nick Jones as Victor, Matthew Manahan as Gottfried and Michelle Smitheram as Helga.

Winner of 12 Tony Awards, 8 Academy Awards and 7 BAFTA’s, CABARET wows audiences and critics alike time and time again. Fifty years ago the original Broadway production made a household name of Joel Grey while just two years later an unassuming Judi Dench stole the show on London’s West End. Arguably the most iconic movie musical of all time, renowned director Bob Fosse made Liza Minnelli a silver screen star.

Based on The Berlin Stories by renowned author Christopher Isherwood, CABARET celebrates the sexual freedom and social liberation of 1930s Berlin. CABARET, adapted into musical form by Kander and Ebb, became Isherwood’s semi-biographical portrait of life on the edge.

    Cabaret

by Dearbobby on 6/2/10Macgowan Hall Little Theater - Los Angeles

Just remember, UCLA students did everything, including attempting to play people far older than they, perhaps, the most challenging thing a young actor can do. The orchestra was good. Not great as might be expected. Style in music requires either time or genius. The acting was very good as was the singing and dancing. The risque content of the play was no doubt reigned in by the department in an attempt to remain collegiate, but there was one performer who deserves more than honorable mention.Katie Boeck is a star. Plain and simple. Watch for her. Either as an American Idol or future actress on or off Broadway. She shines. She is so smooth in her movement. She is playful and tart and of course tragic. See the musical, see Katie Boeck and see a future American icon.

    Fantastic show!

by swimfan909 on 5/31/10Macgowan Hall Little Theater - Los Angeles

I've seen Cabaret 7 different times before, and this was by far the most amazing cast i've seen. They were all just so 'on' the whole time, they sounded so great together, all of them had great voices and could all sing very well. I just loved literally every single character in the show from the main ones, to the ones that were on stage just a few times. They all brought their best to the stage and were all still very memorable. As I said before i've seen the show many times, but this cast made it totally new and exciting as if i've never even seen the show before. Very pleased with everything about it, even the little changes there are from show to show that i appreciate being surprised with. This show is HIGHLY recommended to see.

    Is life a Cabaret?

by texas54 on 5/30/10Macgowan Hall Little Theater - Los Angeles

Can you hear the melody and lyrics, "Life is a cabaret old chum, come to the Cabaret" in your head? I can! And this show helps us see that it is so much more. The performance of every actor is authentic, and draws you into their world. The singing, the music, dancing and acting are professional. The story is one which must be told. Shows are selling out, don't wait.

    Cabaret was fantastic

by sgtdeb on 5/16/10The Stanley - Utica

We go twice a year...we don't have schedules flexible to attend all shows....Cabaret was entertaining and full extremely talented actors and actresses. Our favorites were the emcee and Sally Bowles. The home owner and the Jewish gentleman were very talented too, but of course there was not as much for them. the cast was very well synched and incredibly talented. We brought our daughter for her 21st b-day and it made the evening spectacular.

No need to go to Broadway

by galbar on 5/10/10Tilles Center Concert Hall - Brookville

Great show. You really felt the decadence of pre war Germany and the hopelessness of the people involved. The emcee was fantastic.

    Forgettable

by bgl4854 on 5/9/10Tilles Center Concert Hall - Brookville

The play was forgettable. There were some OK acts mostly from the "Kit Kat" girls but the rest of the cast was forgettable. Accents (English esp) were unrecognizable. Overall not a good value for your money.

    Cabaret was an excellent performance

Very nice play and acting was very good. Seating was not well managed though and we ended up in the nose bleed section when there was lots of seats available.

    Cabaret was a disappointment!

    by marishka1 on 4/26/10Assembly Hall - Champaign

Couldn't wait until intermission so we could leave. Saw several others in the parking lot with the same idea. Performance was slow-moving and tedious.

    Should Have Left at Intermission

by neatoni on 4/25/10Assembly Hall - Champaign

I've never been more disappointed in a show. When I saw that this was part of a traveling Broadway series I was expecting good acting, singing, and choreography. The Broadway League really needs to reconsider allowing "Windwood Theatricals" to soil their name. I saw this show in Champaign, IL at Assembly Hall. Admittedly, this is not the best of venues. It is normally a basketball stadium and it was converted into a theater. Knowing this full well I will not blame the production for having terrible acoustics and ushers that will allow customers to come and go during musical numbers. They also can't be blamed for the fact that the girl I was sitting next to decided to sing along with some of the numbers. What it felt like I was watching was a show put on by people who get to a no-name city and then decide, "This place doesn't matter, don't give it your all." They lacked energy and it started to put me to sleep. Though no announcement was made, I'm wondering if they simply put all of their under studies on stage and gave the real actors the night off. I've seen more interesting choreography in high school musicals. All the actors did was kick a little bit and put their hands in the air. This is supposed to be a show that takes place in a very erotic cabaret, not on a soccer field. The Emcee. Eugh. What is Cabaret without a good emcee? This guy did some very strange voices that admittedly might be funny if he were trying to entertain a class of preschoolers, but using the voice of the Cookie Monster as an impersonation of masculinity just isn't funny. Sally Bowles and Cliff. Meh. I was bored with them. I was much more interested in Fraulein Schneider and Herr Schultz. This was perhaps the one redeeming factor of the show, but in nearly all of their musical numbers they literally just stand still and sing. The set was pretty interesting to look at, it's just too bad that the director found it desirable to place actors behind on-stage doors during critical scenes. I'm sure some audience members were able to see these scenes just fine, but the director clearly forgot that not all of the audience is sitting right up front. I've only ever walked out on a show once. I decided to wait through the agonizing long intermission to see if the show could redeem itself. It did not and I regretted my decision. If you're longing to see Cabaret on stage, do yourself a favor and just rent the movie. Or check to see if any high schools are putting it on.

    Cabaret was such fun

by GildaMae on 4/23/10Chester Fritz Auditorium - Grand Forks

We received the tickets for Cabaret for Christmas from our son and daughter in law. We thought this was such a unique gift. It was well worth the four months we had to wait to use these tickets. The cast was fabulous and the costumes fit the time period so well. We will long remember this performance. Especially enjoyed the Emcee

    Different perspective on classic tale

by StudentUND on 4/21/10Chester Fritz Auditorium - Grand Forks

Without the signature tune, 'Mein Herr', Cabaret was still worth seeing on stage. With less emphasis on the character of Sally Bowles, and more focus on Fraülein Schmidt and Herr Schultz, it was still the unmistakable classic.

    Wunderbar Emcee!

by Magnanimous on 4/21/10Chester Fritz Auditorium - Grand Forks

While everyone was great in this show, the actor playing the Emcee really stole the show. Good acting by all, excellent singing and music.
