Burning Spear on Tour
Roots/reggae sensation Burning Spear (real name Winston Rodney OD) is one the most respected artists in the history of Jamaica. A Rastafarian, Burning Spear is one of the most influential roots artists to come out of the 1970s. Throughout nearly four decades, more than 25 albums and countless live performances, Burning Spear has carried the torch of political activist Marcus Garvey. Through lyrics and rhythms and live performances that spread messages of peace and love to all, Burning Spear promotes self-determination and self-reliance for African descendants. Before Burning Spear embarked on a string of shows in the U.S. in 2022 -- his first tour since 2010 -- he announced that he would not be going out on long tours anymore. In a 2021 interview with Reggaeville, the singer/songwriter/musician said, "I don't think I will be touring again. Like going on the road for months, weeks. ... I will use my discretion and think about doing maybe a little show here and there." Seeing Burning Spear live should be on the bucket list of any reggae fan.
Burning Spear Live in Concert
Winston Rodney OD (aka Burning Spear) was born in 1948 in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica -- the same birthplace as the legendary Bob Marley, who set the singer/songwriter/musician off on his career in music. He met Marley while they were both living in St. Ann's and, as Burning Spear recalls in a bio on his website, "I say ... I would like to get involved in the music business. And Bob say, 'All right, just check Studio One." So, Rodney set off to Kingston for a meeting with Coxsone Dodd, the head of Studio One. It was there that Burning Spear released a series of singles, including the 1972 Jamaican smash hit "Joe Frazier (He Prayed)." Shortly after, Burning Spear released their first two classic albums: 1973's Studio One Presents Burning Spear and 1974's Rocking Time. After moving on to work with Jack Ruby, Burning Spear recorded "Marcus Garvey," which would become a successful hit song, followed by "Slavery Days." In 1975, Burning Spear released the Marcus Garvey album, one of the greatest albums to ever come out of Jamaica. Burning Spear subsequently released Man in the Hills (1976), Dry & Heavy (1977), Social Living (1978), and Hail H.I.M. (1980). These five albums remain a seminal canon of dread roots, carrying on the legacy of Burning Spear for decades to come.
Incredible performance from a legend. Great energy perfect venue.
We traveled out of state to see this long awaited concert! The Filmore was a great venue and entry ran rather smooth. A few hiccups that weren’t anticipated (i.e wasn’t aware perfume bottles and umbrellas weren’t allowed in venue) but overall we all had a fabulous time and enjoyed the whole experience
Great Experience, Great Vibes, Incredible Music. I definitely enjoyed the concert. Seeing Burning Spear is a lifetime experience
The band was tight! Winston was powerful. We had an amazing evening! Thank you ! Burning Spear!!!!!!!
Fantastic show, great to experience one of Reggae's legends perform with such energy and fan support!
Spear delivers it really was an exceptional concert. Very fortunate to have been able to Cine Burning Spear live, what made the show so exceptional for me was my proximity to the stage and ability to see his hands hit the bongos, his feet dance on the floor, and his facial expressions as he was getting ready to prepare for each song. He was awesome
Cool DJ did the pre show as everyone settled in. Awesome venue. Burning Spear unbelievable experience for real inspiration living legend
Burning Spear is such a truly talented and special legend. I got to see him once about 20 years ago, and now again at the Moore. The show was incredible, and so was the venue. Very high vibe musicians and audience. Burning Spear’s music has a healing effect on me. I’m so grateful to have been able to witness another live performance by him and the Burning Band. One love!!
Amazing Show! Very Blessed to have experienced the Legend!!
Enjoyed the concert no bad seating in the YouTube Arena nice floor area to dance. burning Spear as usual have a great show and left us wanting more!
Legendary great delivers another epic reggae performance so true to his roots! I felt transported back in time where the love is all around and enraptured by the pure unique sound of the one and only Burning Spear!
Great sound. Kept us on our feet. Performed almost 2 hrs. Got our monies worth
Winston Rodney came out of retirement to show his appreciation to his fans. For over two hours this legend gave the fans the music they wanted and needed. Much respect
Great musical performance! Although, the whole evening was a bit of a downer, with the bar only having Bud Light, and then just closing really early, (1 hour before show ended). Also, I haven't seen people paying $15 for Bud Light's in SF, in over 30 years. That made it a bit of a surreal experience, and not in a good way :/
The venue was perfect! Front and center. Winston Rodney and the burning spear never disappoints. They are a class act through and through. They played all the jams spanning their career. It was an intimate experience. An end of an era 💯🔥🔥❤️💛💚
The show was amazing, Burning Spear lit the house on 🔥 fire!!!! After all these years his passion and energy stay the same. Such a powerful voice and presence. Surely a living Rasta legend! What a blessings to be a part of it. Rasta live! Fire burnin!!
It was great to see reggae legend Burning Spear once again since his retirement several years ago. He looked healthy and energetic. Really enjoyed his more jammed out style of performance this time around and the set list was full of classics. A true blessing from the Rasta gods. Roots Rock Reggae Lives!
Stage and seating was incredible in ensuring best enjoyment of sound and visuals. The talent, Burning Spear, was no less than tear-jerking amazing! Dance dance dance the soul. Thank you.
Burning Spear was an exceptionally superb show. The venue had an excellent view from our seats & plenty of room to dance🕺
This show was fantastic. He is always amazing, the Youtube theatre is very nice. I dont think theres any bad seats in the house. Can be more intimate setting for certain gigs. I dont like that there is absolutely no smoking section anywhere bc its hard for smokers to go 3+ hrs without, seems a little unfair but for us non smokers its cool. Everyone should see and experience Burning Spear! Please pray that the war in Africa ends so my brethren can return to the farms and live peacefully, big city is a struggle. Thank Addis Ababa trying to help keep so many safer.
