  • Would go again

First time at a professional orchestra performance. Venue was historical, which was a bonus. Event was well-attended, and there weren't many disruptive people (unlike the movie theater, where people always seem to be getting out their phones or yapping to their friend). We sat in the balcony, just a handful of rows from the top, and it was a good angle to be able to see the majority of the musicians and singers. Binoculars would have been helpful, but it was more about sound than sight. The speaker quality was just fine, and it was set to an appropriate level. The screen on which the movie was projected was adequately sized, and the subtitles shown were actually very helpful. I was able to pick up on a lot of jokes and dialogue I'd never noticed or understood before, so it added to my enjoyment of the event. Seating was a little cramped, and it got very warm in the seats (should have brought a water bottle).

This was an amazing experience from start to finish!!! I've wanted to see this play for years and it was well worth the wait. Can't wait to see it again!

  • Inspiring!

by FWFamofFive on 11/18/13Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

The Lord Of the Rings, In Concert with the Dallas Pops was truly a work of art. the care and energy that went into the music was obvious, and extremely impressive. We especially enjoyed how the soloist stood out in constume. The actual voiceover of the movie could have been louder, and the upper reserve was very warm - like sweat in your seat warm, which was not pleasant. Thank goodness for playbill/fans. I would definitely recommend this to others. My family and I found the score amazing and it was incredible to watch it being played out live as the movie progressed. Nice job, Dallas Pops.

  • Excellent for a Second Viewing

by parodymandotcom on 11/16/13Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

On November 10, 2013, along with a couple of friends, I attended The Lord Of the Rings in Concert at Fair Park. This was the first event of its type that I had attended. Our seats were in the orchestra section, third row from the back and under the overhang of the balcony. The view of the orchestra was excellent (it didn't hurt that the seats directly in front of us were empty), and we were pretty much at eye level with the movie screen. From the short description that I had read when I bought the tickets, I was expecting the entire audio of the movie to be muted so that the only sound heard would be the orchestra. I was surprised to discover that the vocals of the movie were played, with only the music and some sound effects muted. The screen was smaller than a typical movie theatre screen, but it was plently large enough to view the movie. It was placed at the rear of the stage above the choir, with the orchestra taking up the front of the stage. The Dallas Pops did a marvelous job with the score, and the choir, especially the featured vocalists, were excellent. Because several of the sound effects were muted, I would not recommend this type of performance as your only viewing of a movie. But if you have seen a movie in a movie theatre and enjoyed the orchestration, this is a wonderful way to see it again with focus on the music.

  • When is the Next film

by plhall57 on 11/15/13Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

that was an amazing concert. The venue was perfect, the orchestra was amazing and the vocalists were breath taking. Will attend if they do the next movie in the trilogy.

  • Totally Awsome Concept

by vzabbit on 11/14/13Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Much more entertaining than I had imagined. I knew the importance of a good score to enhance a movie's impact, live music was a quantum level higher. The orchestra and chorus were flawless. This was the most appreciative audience reaction I have seen at the curtain call. No one left early to get out. After the last note played, everyone jumped to their feet and applauded continously for 8-10 minutes.

  • Fantastic

My 14-year-old's response after the show - "That was totally awesome!" We actually drove the four hours to get to the show and then back on the same day and can say it was well worth it. Both orchestra and singers were great. It was so well done that you sometimes forgot there was a live orchestra.

  • A Masterful Performance

by Dreamsinemerald on 11/14/13Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was indeed amazing. The orchestra was larger than is traditional, but added to the majesty of the score. During the concert the orchestra played the entire soundtrack to the film, while the film played overhead. The sheer magnitude of this undertaking should not be lost on the audience, and every member of the audience appreciated the challenge. The orchestra was perfect and the choirs did exactly as they should. I truly hope that more events like this will be available in the future. Maybe The Two Towers next year? Please?

  • Better than just watching a movie!

by Dysmondad on 11/14/13Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

I like going to see a movie in a large theater like they used to build back before I was born. When ever I can find one that's screening a good show I will be there. Add to that the wonderful experience of going to the Symphony and the Chorale with a movie and it is pure entertainment magic. The big expansive story that is The Lord of the Rings deserves this kind of treatment. I hope that the Music Hall at Fair Park will do this again.

  • Such an experience!

by Lucent on 11/13/13Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

I am a huge fan of the LotR movies and this truly was an unforgettable experience. The Dallas Pops were superb. I could not recommend this more. I sincerely hope they follow through with the next two movies. I know so many more people I would invite now having been to it already.

A wonderful combination of film and live performance. I am not a Lord of the Rings devotee, but thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Do not be worried about the length; one intermission was plenty, and I was sad when it ended.

This was such a wonderful event. Gorgeous music and singing to go with one of the best films ever made!!

  • You won't ever watch the movies the same!

by gt13 on 11/13/13Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

What a stellar performance. This is a great event for fans, but really for anyone who can appreciate the scores in The Fellowship of the Ring. We had fantastic seats and were able to see the entire orchestra. I'd go to see it fifty more times if I could afford it. Watching the movies on DVD just won't cut it anymore...

  • MOST Unique

by HHightower on 11/13/13Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The Lord of the Rings in concert with the Dallas Pops was one of the most unique experiences I have ever experienced! The music was so good that I would forget it was not a soundtrack. The vocalists were outstanding. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. My family and I attended and would go back again, if there is anything similar!

  • Dazzling Performance!

by Sk8Kate14 on 11/13/13Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The live performance of one of the best film scores of all-time was tremendous. I found myself transfixed on the film, forgetting that the orchestra and chorus were hard at work below the screen. Then, it'd suddenly hit me - the music is live! What a treat. Hearing Howard Shore's creation live was like meeting your favorite actor - quite a memorable experience! My only complaint is the apparent lack of proper traffic handling before the show. I arrived to the venue in plenty of time, however, the light allowing access to parking seemed to be malfunctioning, and venue staff did not direct traffic. Thus, I missed the first 15 minutes of the show sitting in traffic right outside the venue. Considering that I allowed plenty of travel time, I was quite disappointed. Please fix this issue, Fair Park.

Surprisingly good. Highly recommended. Really brought out a difference in the movie and let us enjoy the score first hand.

  • Awesome!

by Need2Tell on 11/13/13Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

I am a big LOTR fan and this was spot on! All the songs were a duplicate of the original sound track. Having the music even bolder and more intense made the movie that much better! The timing to the movie was also spot on! They did a great job, obviously worked very hard! The singers were also very talented. The little boy who sang solo was immaculate! The lady was a little shaky at times, a little up and down, but also blew me away! I hope they do the next two movies!

  • The Way to Watch a Movie

by JessicaC12 on 11/13/13Music Hall At Fair Park - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The choirs were amazing, especially the Children's choir. The live orchestra was amazing as well. If I could watch all films with a live orchestra and choirs, I would!
