Dallas Summer Musicals (DSM) is the preeminent non-profit presenter of Broadway theater in North Texas. DSM produces, presents and promotes excellence in live musical theater with year-round performances for diverse audiences of all ages, impacting the lives of children and families through community outreach and education, and enriching the cultural landscape of Dallas/Fort Worth, North Texas and the Southwest Region.
DSM is the largest producer and presenter of live theatrical entertainment in the Southwest, the second oldest summer theater organization in the United States, and the fourth largest non-profit theater company. In addition to presenting national Broadway tours, DSM also produces shows on Broadway, presents and tours local productions, and is involved in developing new works. DSM is the winner of six Tony awards and two Drama Desk awards.
We've seen Lion King on stage several times, and it never disappoints. However, I believe this was the best -- stunning performers and staging. I've never heard an audience so enthusiastic and appreciative during the well-deserved standing ovation. Disney always gets it right!
"Amazing!! Amazing! AMAZING!" These are the words I heard all night from my 10-yr-old. My husband, who likes very few "'musicals," was blown away and said it was an extraordinary experience!
An imaginative and creative production. The colors, music, dancing and talent were all superb, and the costumes were amazing. The actors who played many of the animal characters also had to be excellent puppeteers and they all nailed it! But I have to admit, Rafiki made the show for me. She was adorable and so funny! I also loved that much of the scenery was portrayed by people in costume and it was lovely to see how their movements created different effects in the flora and fauna.
So glad i was able to see this in Dallas. I definitely want to see out again on Broadway!
Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed the show. However, we liked the Lion King production at Walt Disney World much better. We felt this production lost something by being WAY down on the stage. Only 1 time did the show come into the audience. It was also a touch too long. Some of the songs were long, not relevant and boring. What we did like: The show has some beautiful costumes that we didn't appreciate until we looked in the $25 program. The choreography was well done. The singing was flawless. And the costumes were different enough to allow us to identify the different characters from a distance.
I had seen The Lion King three (3) times on Broadway in New York City and it was every bit as good in Dallas.
The Lion King was unforgettable. The costumes were great and the puppet masters were incredible. I was mesmerized by the cheetah and loved the giraffes. My 4 yr. old grandson stayed engaged all throughout. Wonderful music and orchestra was great. Don't miss it if/when you have the opportunity.
Excellent show, would highly recommend. I would see again and again. I was most impressed with the animals.
The Lion King transformed the Music Hall into the African Savanna, using so many theatrical traditions--Greek chorus, pantomine, puppetry, silhouettes--to tell the story in fresh, vibrant way. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and we would love to see it again.
Great performance! The costumes were fantastic! A definite must see!
From the opening scene to the closing scene the show was amazing.
Great night! Costumes and actors were incredible! We are looking forward to our next play at Fair Park. We won't go during the Star Fair again though. There should have been parking for Lion King ticket holders. We had to walk a long way. We were not wearing walking shoes. There was only one tram and it wasn't available or was full both ways. Tremendous play! Highly recommend it!

The Lion King was ....no words to describe...best play I have ever seen. Costumes were beautiful. Puppets were out of this world creative and captivating. It was worth the cost to see the show. The person who played Rafiki was positively the crispest, pitch perfect person I have ever heard singing!!!

The first thing you notice is the elaborate costumes, so not only do the actors have to voice the personality of the characters, but the also have to make the costume portray the personality and attitude of its character in the story. The music was amazing, though I wasn't a huge fan of the "added" songs that are not known to all who have seen the movie, not all were bad but the nonsensical ones sort of interrupted the flow for me personally. Other than that I enjoyed the show emeancely, even a little more than the movie which I grew up watching.
Most folks are at least somewhat familiar with the animated film and the classic characters. But seeing them come alive -- in what will probably be the best staged, best choreographed stage production you will EVER see! -- is an experience that the entire family, from kids to grandparents, will NEVER forget and will treasure forever!!! Each character is so vividly portrayed with brilliant performances that you just want to "take them home with you!" A truly marvelous and memorable experience!!! I urge everyone to take a few hours out of their busy lives to treat yourself to something you and your family will never, ever forget!!
Have always loved everything about Lion King: costumes, the story, the music. The design and use of all the puppets always amazes me!
All I could think was... Wow this show is so clever!!! I wondered how they would reenact the animals..it was amazing. From the first scene to last I was amazed. If you love musicals you must not miss this one.
