The overall rent was great , I think it should be a 21 plus event it would just make the event a bit more enjoyable. It was annoying to have to pick either to enjoy a drink in the beer garden or to leave the garden and try and find a spot close to the stages but without the ability to enjoy the $7 beers.

    Boston Calling was great!

by Matcha on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

The weather was awful. I mean AWFUL. And yes, the tickets are a little pricey. But even with all those factors, I was very impressed with the quality of the shows, how organized and well-thought out the event was, and the overall package of the event. I took away a star because I don't think that the show line-up for the second day warranted the price for the second day. The shows weren't nearly as amazing as the first day. So if you are considering this, definitely look up all the bands and make sure there are at least 3 that you want to see in order to make it worth the money.

Pros: Great lineup, Friendly staff, Ran on time, Free ponchos, Fair prices, Re-entry was key!, Cons: Sound on the small stage was very poor and not loud enough,

Boston Calling put on a great event that went off without a hitch! Very impressive for a first-ever festival! Will be returning in the fall and look forward to next May as well! Crowds were large but manageable!

    Awesome first year!

by mnatale100 on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

So glad I went to this! I'm so excited Boston finally has a music festival, and this was a great first year. Despite the rain the first day, everything was well organized, the acts were amazing, etc. Everything was staggered well enough that you could feasibly go see every act if you wanted to (although you would likely have crappy seats for all of them - but it's up to you). I moved between stages the first day, but the second day I got a spot right in the front row at the main stage, and didn't move from it. They also do a simulcast screen so no matter what stage you're at, you can see the act going on at the other stage (if you stay at the same stage, there will be gaps of 45-75 minutes between acts). Unfortunately if you were watching the cast at the main stage, you couldn't hear the act at the city hall stage, which is only a minor complaint - if you were watching the cast at the city hall stage, you could hear the main stage act perfectly well. I watched both the Shins and Matt & Kim from the screen at the city hall stage and it was perfect. My best advice is get right to the stage you want to be at when the gates open. You don't need to show up 4 hours early to lineup or anything or anything - I showed up half an hour before the gates opened and I got a space right in the front row the second day, and the first day I was there half an hour early and was a few rows back from the front. A lot of people go walking around and looking about and getting food and whatnot when the gates open, because you'll have between a 90 and 120 minute wait between when the gates open, and when the acts start, depending on which you want to see (the two first acts are at the two different stages, staggered by half an hour, ex. Bad Rabbits on one stage at 1:30 and St. Lucia on the city hall stage at 2). So if you go right to the stage, you'll be standing around for that long, but if you get a great spot, it's worth it because you can stay there the rest of the day, and that initial wait will be the longest you have. The only bad thing I have to say is I think they should try to invite more food vendors. I'm a vegetarian and there was only one place I could get anything to eat (it was great, but the point is the options were limited). The low number of vendors in general led to really long lines at almost all of them. That being said, I could have gone off site, but I would have liked to see more local Boston vendors and food trucks rather than have to go off site to a franchise. I mean, it's the first year, so I'm sure the event will become more of a draw for local vendors as years go by.

The National and Portugal the Man were highlights!

by Nikki2222 on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

The festival was awesome. They could do. Better job with logistics (you can drink a beer and eat food or watch the show at the same time). Sound on the main stage was great.

    Boston Calling Forever

by indiemusiclover2 on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

This festival was amazing. The lineup was great, the vendors were great, everything was great. The only critique i have is the organization of the event. It was quite unorganized, but once you found your way in it was amazing. I really hope they continue to do this festival every year. multiple times a year. forever.

    Fantastic Event

by Flyflagsboston on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

Awesome event put on by Crashline and Bowery Boston. Minimal lines, plenty of facilities, fully staffed beer/wine distribution and carefully planned day of show logistics! Rain put a damper on Saturday's performances but the artists kept the vibe flowing. Great marketing and I can't wait till September to do it again!

A great music festival in a great city

by Gregajames on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

For their first time putting on a music festival, Boston calling was really well done. Obviously like all new music festivals there were some things that they needed to iron out. But they were so very minor things that they became completely over shadowed by the awesome things of this festival, like the music and the completely awesome atmosphere of being in the city. I highly recommend this festival because honestly it will just keep getting better and better as the years go on

    Portugal The Man was awesome

by Coby2 on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

The rain, the wind and the cold was unbelievable. But the crowd, security present and the ease of parking and going in/out of concert was fantastic.

    Cold but came for more!!!!!

by Cozmo85 on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

The moment I saw fun and monsters and men were playing I was in. I really did not understand how it was going work, but timing between acts was amazing. The beer garden well placed, and the ability to come and go really made the first day possible since there was a lot of re heating needed. The second stages was a bit small but I think it worked....could have been facing another direction.

    It was awesome except...

by Slfaria791 on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

The weather! Ugh! I know it wasn't their fault but there was no where to get hot chocolate and they wouldn't allow us to bring one in ( even though they did on Saturday) great line up. But I think they should have been more prepared for the climate. Heat lamps. Anything.

Wicked awesome ... Boston Calling ...

by jayne13 on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

Two days of rainy and/or cold weather didn't stop any of the bands from putting on some of the best shows I've seen. Boston Calling put together a great diversity of bands from different genres - many bands gaining new fans along the way. They're doing it again in September - don't miss out!!

    Awesome festival!

by BACoustic on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

Fantastic show all things considered. Even with the rain, acts like Matt and Kim brought tons of energy and helped us forge through! I would love to go again and if I'm in the USA in September I'll be at the next one! This festival was also great for being accessible on multiple levels. I got a smattering of acts I likely wouldn't have seen before, but now I am pumped to go to their shows whenever they come through. The layout and transitions of the festival were killer too. Overall I thought it was well managed and we had a fantastic time.

by Camm468 on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

Worth every penny! Great set up and AMAZING line up! Awesome to be at a festival right in the middle of the city and enjoy some of Boston's best food trucks as well!

Well staffed, professional people working. However, not a great venue for everyone seeing anything and there were lots of random tight squeezes that made people flow a huge problem.

by Anonymous on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

I went Saturday and despite the terrible weather, Boston Calling was excellent. It's a great idea, great venue, and very well executed. Can't wait for the next one!

    Amazing

by Kelskels on 5/27/13Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

Even though it poured rain and was freezing for the first night it was totally worth being outside. Out of the 16 acts that showed up there were few that I didn't like. Overall it was an amazing experience the bands were fantastic.
