Definitely turning into a semi-annual tradition!

by believe1nmagic on 10/1/15Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

As an avid music listener and lover, I found September's Boston Calling weekend to be an absolute blast. Even though there were only a few sets I was desperate to see (Walk the Moon being my #1) I still very much enjoyed being in my element and getting the opportunity to discover new music :) The vendors at the festival were also pretty good. The only thing I would suggest is having the vendors offer more gluten free options. My friend and I are both gluten free so it was difficult finding food there. I would also suggest having a larger supply of Wicked Wines' Pinot Grigio - there was a lot of demand for that but the bars would run out of it quickly so the semi-chilled Chardonnay was the only opton left (for white wine at least). The activities the other vendors had were awesome! So many photo booths and the human Jenga and huge Connect Four were a huge hit. I'm really lookinf forward to the reveal of the May lineup and can't wait to get to the next Boston Calling!

    Alabama rocked Boston!

by Shaking on 10/1/15Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

Went to Boston Calling for Sunday only. Not too familiar with most acts past recognizing some names. I'm in my 40s and not in touch many new bands, i went mostly just to see Alabama Shakes. The earlier acts were pretty enjoyable, but the Alabama Shakes were the rock powerhouse I was hoping for! They rocked loud with power & soul, blasting and grooving, crunching and spacing out. Would've busted the moon if the lunar eclipse hadn't beat them to it!

As always..another fantastic Boston Calling. The acts are varied and I enjoy most of them. Something for everyone! Of Monsters & Men on Friday.....Walk the Moon on Saturday, Churches was also excellent....Hozier on Sunday blew us all away..BUTNate Reuss was my favorite of the Sunday Show! There is plenty of Swag...all day long! The food vendors are also varied and I highly recommend the Flat Bread Pizza and the hand cut French Fries! Plenty of PortaPotties makes for a gereat time!

    Misterwives KILLLED IT

by Megulah on 9/30/15Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

Overall a lot of great acts but it was a little too slow of musical choices. Having Alt J and Ben Howard later into the night was a bit depressing.

    Well done Boston

by Bosbeti on 9/29/15Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

We went Friday night and bought the VIP tickets because I wanted to be able to sit down from time to time and not have to wait in a long line for drinks and bathroom facilities (ok, porto potties). We hung out up in the VIP lounge for the first act and had a cocktail and our boxed food (pulled pork sandwich, slaw and a cupcake), which was pretty good. Then spent the rest of the evening standing up in the VIP area closer to the stage, which was elevated and to the side of the general admission area. It gave us a pretty good view of the stage. During the transition from second to third act, we went back to the VIP lounge for a drink and to sit down for a few minutes. I was really happy with the high def screens and the terrific sound. The lighting was great too, including the artistic and ever changing light show projected onto City Hall. A great night.

Well organized, minimal lines for anything. Beer was reasonably priced for a concert in Boston.

    Great weather and Artists

by RyanMcLear on 5/27/15Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

Friday: Beck Killed it and great light work on the face of the Government Center building. Saturday: decent weather, Tove Lo rocked the crowd, great night. Sunday: Amazing weather, very mellow and low key artists, TV On the Radio put on an entertaining show and Tenacious D had the most memorable show of the entire weekend.

    A Great Day

by PowerfulPierre on 5/27/15Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

I'm 67yo but have been into Boston Rock since the Boston Tea Party days. Took my granddaughters (13 and 15) to the Sunday show. The younger one and I attended last summer's show, too. The music was great but, and a good mix of styles, because of the younger girls, I was most impressed with the civility of the crowd, the high level of organization, the not-obvious-but always-around security, and in general, the organization annd control of the event. Will attend this fall and next year! Thank You!

Great Music, VIP ticket not worth it

by VTDoc on 5/27/15Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

The music was amazing but having paid additional money for the VIP area was not worth it. Main VIP area very far from the stages so felt disconnected from the music and the rest of the crowd. City Hall building actually distorted the sound of the music so very muffled when in VIP area. The small VIP staging area near the stage was completely across the venue from the other VIP area and you had to push your way thru the general crowd only to be told the staging area was at max capacity. The 'private' bathrooms were a bank of port-a-lets that were no more clean than the general admission toilets. Bags of chips and protein bars are NOT hors d'oeuvres. I liked the free Polar sodas/seltzers but would have been nice to have better alcohol options. I am not a beer drinker and Wicked Wines were nice but not worth $7/glass. Had a much better time on Friday when I just paid general admission.

    Fantastic Music Festival!!

by Dianabodana on 5/27/15Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

This was my first music festival and I was blown away by how well it was put together. Not only was the lineup phenomenal, the venue itself was perfect. So clean and organized. The food vendors were awesome, lots of free swag and plenty of bathroom facilities. Also lots of beer tents so the line was never bad. I will def be going to this again.

    BALLROOM THIEVES ROCK BOSTON CALLING

by CHARLEY57 on 5/27/15Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

Sunday's opener, Boston based originals, Martin Earley (Guitar, Lead Vocals), Devin Mauch (Percussion, Harmony Vocals) & Calin (Calie) Peters (Cello, Harmony Vocals), definitely left their folk rock mark at Boston Calling. Opening with ARCHERS, and working song to song through a journey from their recently released full length CD, A WOLF IN THE DOORWAY, the tight 3 part harmonies and unique percussive rhythms emersed an eager crowd of an ever increasing fan base in talented delivery. Among the highlights, were WILD WOMAN, OARS TO THE SEA, OAK, LANTERN each to its own motif and genre, everything with BALLROOM THIEVES precision. The closing number, WOLF left concert goers wanting more... surely BURY ME SMILING would have made an exceptional encore, if festival rules permitted. Not one listener was let down by the excellence of musical thievery, Boston hearts have been stolen.

Pixies was a huge let down

by Bostonian763 on 5/27/15Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

Really wanted to see the pixies at this year's Boston calling so I dished out the high cost for the ticket. The whole fest isn't bad, nice set up, free water, food vendors inside, but the pixies had no energy. They stood their for the entire set and added nothing special. They're like robots at Chuck ee cheese with a pixies mix cd playing in the back ground. Overall fest is OK I just feel like I didn't get my money's worth.

Don't waste your money on VIP

by KatieM1 on 5/26/15Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

The bands were fantastic, the food options were great and the ability to go in and out was a very helpful. However the extra money we paid for VIP felt like a waste and caused our experience to be less than expected. The VIP platform was great to see the JetBlue stage, but without a bathroom in that section it was very frustrating. Walking through the massive crowds to any bathroom, VIP or not, from the platform was extremely difficult. I expected more with the VIP bathrooms too. They ran out of hand sanitizer and toilet paper then at night the lighting was terrible making it more appealing to use the non VIP bathrooms. The "snacks" provided were not what was pictured on the website ahead of time. Half deli sandwiches and cookies were all we saw the entire weekend. The free water was all sparkling and sweet, so I was glad we brought our own plain water for the times we wanted it. The VIP platform also ran out of the free water for those who did want to drink it. Overall I would go back if the line up were worth it, but would not pay extra for the VIP. Bring your own earplugs if you plan to see a show from the platform.

    Boston Calling Keeps Getting Better

by MauraDreamer on 5/26/15Boston City Hall Plaza - Boston

This past weekend marked the 5th Boston Calling. Each event gets better as the sponsors seem to have figured out what the spectators want and need. This includes great food vendors, freebies, and this years' addition of a sunscreen station and gaming area on artificial turf.
