About

He didn't name it and doesn't refer to it as such, but folk-rock legend Bob Dylan has been on what's become known as his Never Ending Tour since 1988. The longest the Minnesota native has gone without playing a concert since then was a three-month break he took in 1997 to recover from what could have been a fatal chest infection.

Dylan has played more than 2,500 gigs during this incredible run, and despite a catalog that dates back more than a half century, the shows aren't greatest-hits rehashes. The iconoclastic singer-songwriter tends to focus on whatever his latest musical project happens to be, and he often reworks his well-known songs significantly. Dylan's current backing band -- all of whom played on his 2012 studio album, Tempest -- has a bit of a country vibe, and  usually features guitarists Stu Kimball and Charlie Sexton along with Tony Garnier (bass), drummer George Receli (drums), and  Donnie Herron (pedal steel, lap steel, banjo, mandolin, violin, viola).

Dylan was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, and he would have landed there based on his work in the 1960s alone, when he wrote and recorded some of the most enduring and groundbreaking material in musical history. Though his '60s songbook includes classics like "Blowin' in the Wind," "Subterranean Homesick Blues," "Like a Rolling Stone," and "I Want You," he hasn't stopped writing and recording critically acclaimed material, and is constantly mining his archives to release previously unreleased material.

    IT WAS ALRIGHT

by VISION INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC on 4/7/24

SAW HIM AT MOODY THEATER YESTERDAY, AND I HAVE QUITE A FEW THINGS TO SAY, BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE POSITIVE: BAND WAS TIGHT, BOB'S PIANO PLAYING WAS GOOD, JIMMIE FREAKING VAUGHN ON GUEST GUITAR, THEY ROCKED PRETTY HARD, ALSO HAD SOME NICE MELANCHOLIC STUFF NEGATIVE: DIDN'T PLAY ANY OF HIS 60'S HITS, CAN BE DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT HE'S SINGING, HAD TO PUT PHONES IN POUCHES WHICH WAS ANNOYING, NO ENCORE OVERALL, IT WAS PRETTY GOOD, WE ENJOYED OURSELVES, BUT THESE ARE SOMETHINGS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING TICKETS

    Disappointing Concert

by D-Giraffe on 4/7/24Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Bob Dylan was a big disappointment. His words were not clear and he seemed to mumble his songs. He did not greet his crowd.. no Hello . No encore. No greatest hits. Not personable at all. He does not seem to care about his fans.

    Disappointing Sound Mix

by quesogrande on 4/7/24Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Bob was fine but the sound mix where we were sitting was bad. Row D, pretty far stage left. You can count on Dylan's band to be top-notch but Bob's vocals and piano were so loud that the other instruments got overpowered in the mix.

    Not Impressed

by SawBob on 4/7/24Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

He didn't/doesn't play any early hits. No audience interaction what so ever. He appeared on stage, dim lights came up, he played, stood up at the end and walked off. No hello Dallas, no this is the band, No thankyou Dallas. Very odd to me. The 1st 3 songs sounded like 1 very long song. Pretty much, he either played a Jerry Lee Lewis honky tonk piano tune or a bluesy tune. There was 1 song that actually had a musical tune to it. He rarely "sang"a tune as he did in his early days, or even in the Travelling Wilburys. Did his typical Dylan thing I guess. Could only understand perhaps 100 words. I did not walk away smiling or excited that I attended. The only good thing I can say is that I saw him.

Adequate Show - better than the last time I saw him.

by Felix from Texas on 4/7/24Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

First time at The Music Hall - Fair Park in Dallas, TX. This place is deceptively huge. I thought we had good seats, but I could barely make out details of the performers from only halfway back in the mezzanine. The sound was very good, both because of excellent sound-engineering and outstanding venue acoustics. The one thing I don't like about Dylan, is that he tends to disguise his music. By that, I mean he plays with differing tempos and beats from what was recorded, such that I often found the song unrecognizable until he was about halfway through it. I get the "artistic license"thing, but I didn't go there to see him experimenting with beats and tempos. I went there because he was touring and showcasing his new album and I would appreciate it if he would play it a bit more faithfully to the album version. If he's going to experiment, then he should do so inside the studio. I'm not a beta tester.

    Sterile Environment

by WD on 4/7/24Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Cashless, gutless, and efficiently run. No humans without smart-phones permitted. That said, God bless Bob Dylan.

    The Incomparable Bob Dylan

by Michael on 4/7/24Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Second time seeing this tour in the DFW area. It did not disappoint. It was a better performance than in 2022 at Toyota Music Factory. The venue has a more intimate feel. Bob was on point and the band walked the tightrope of keeping pace with his vocals and idiosyncratic piano playing. Overall an outstanding performance by an artist that will be discussed for years to come.

Bob Dylan - I left disappointed

by Bob Dylan - an iconic singer that plays to his wish, not his fans on 4/7/24Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

I’ve been a Bob Dylan fan for many decades. I love his iconic voice and style. I left the concert disappointed. I did not recognize a single song until 70 minutes into the concert. He did not play ANY of his top 5 songs. The sound system was also poor making it hard to recognize much of the lyrics.

    A Must See

by Angela on 4/7/24Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

This was the perfect show at the list appropriate venue. Bob Dylan was somehow better than when I saw him a couple of years ago. I would pay any price to see this show. He performed his newer album, and it is so much better live, though I am grateful for the album. I’d say more, but Bob is very private so you will need to go for yourself (phones were stored in foam pouches). There is a freedom and a visceral connection to the artist and music in knowing that this is a moment that we are all sharing and can never be reproduced. Words can not do justice to how this show affected us. I was happy to attend alone, made it easy to find a seat on the front row. Hopefully, Bob Dylan knew how much we all cherished this night.

    Apathy toward audience

by Folksy McMuffin on 4/7/24Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Wanted to love this Bob Dylan show. I love his voice at this stage. It sounds raspy and weathered and just like it does on his recent Sinatra cover records. Unfortunately he only played one song not on the new album. Most of the new album Rough and Rowdy is blues and extremely repetitive. Dylan himself didn’t say a word to the audience, came out and played through the record and left. No encore.

    Disappointed

by Nacho on 4/7/24The Louisville Palace - Louisville

Give two stars only because the concert was Bob Dylan and it was at the Palace. Good to hear new music but thought we would hear some of the music that made him one of the greatest. Only played for 90 minutes so had time to play a few old ones. Heard after the concert he did same thing last time he was in Louisville.

Do yourself a favor, see Bob.

by Elle on 4/4/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

Bob Dylan is the best. He transforms his own music into something that makes me deliriously happy. To see him smile makes everything right with the world. If you have never seen him, don't walk, run for the next venue and ticket.

    Intimate and warm

by Robsbluecorner on 4/3/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

Just what I needed from the living legend. His poetic words blended perfectly with a well seasoned band. I felt like I was in my own music room at home listening to Dylan on the absolute best audio gear. Very warm and intimate experience.

    Don’t waste your time

by Not a Dylan fan on 4/2/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

I have never left a concert or movie early…ever. We left after 50 minutes and we should have left sooner. You are better off lighting money on fire than buying Bob Dylan tickets.

by Elle on 4/2/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

Bob plays non stop for almost 2 hours. He plays the piano with a passion, harmonica too. I always come to the concert with anticipation and leave completely satisfied.

    Really cool show

by JC on 4/2/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

First time seeing Dylan, great band and good range of material. Didn't know how great a pianist he is. Would definitely recommend especially for people who haven't seen him before.

    Skip This One

by Sad Gal on 4/2/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

I am so disappointed in the whole experience. First of all, we were not informed that yondr pouches would be used for this show. That's a whole irritation that takes extra time at the beginning and the end of the process. Secondly, I couldn't understand a word. Bob Dylan was singing. The Pace was so slow and the crowd was -interesting. The vibe was off, and their performance was not good so we left after a few songs. On our way out. We were informed that people had left early the previous night as well so it's not just us!! I paid for good seats, and I'm so sad to have wasted $260.

    Bob Dylan in Memphis

by Pops on 4/1/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

Bob Dylan and his band appeared in Memphis, March 29 and 30 at the Orpheum Theater. I got to attend the Friday night performance, the 29th. The show started right at 8 pm, with the band playing a warm up tune. After a few minutes, Dylan appeared, waved, sat down at his piano, and started on Watch the River Flow. His set consisted mostly of more recent numbers, but had a few of his older songs mixed in. Early in the set, it seemed the band was trying to keep up with what he was going to do, but seemed to settle in as the show went on. About half way through, Bob got up and walked off the stage. The band paused, then began playing and Bob came back out after a few minutes. Maybe he needed to go to the bathroom. Clearly, Bob has aged quite a bit since I saw him over 20 years ago. He appeared slow and somewhat frail walking on and off the stage. As he did over 20 years ago, he never said a word to the audience. He did pause briefly and acknowledge the applause before walking off the stage at the end of the performance. All that said, it was a memorable hour and 50 minute concert by an 82 year old legend. I especially enjoyed his renditions of Gotta Serve Somebody and Every Grain of Sand. It makes me wonder if he is returning to his Christian faith as he ponders his mortality. God Bless you Bob Dylan.

    Only new songs

by Fallguy41 on 4/1/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

We never heard the songs that he played. We were hoping to hear some of his old stuff. After an hour and 20 minutes we left. We just could not take it anymore.

    Rough and Rowdy

by trex4757 on 4/1/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

the show started at 8:00 PM on the nose. my son and i had second row seats, but could have had front row if ticketmaster hadn't sprung the event code requiirement on me during presale. it took me 1/2 hour to locate it. by then the best seats were taken . He opened with 'watching the river flow"he stayed at the piano for the entirety of the show, but he would stand up a lot and then sit back down. he was visibly frustated with the sound. his voice is holding up well. he played harmonica on 3 songs. the audience loved him. he added "big river"by johnny cash to his set list. he also played, "you go your way and i'll go mine, "i'll be your baby tonight", "tonight, i'll be staying here with you", "serve somebody", "when i paint my masterpiece"and several of songs from the "rough and rowdy ways"album. the show lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes. it was well worth the time and money spent
