  • Films were good; venue needs help

by Just A Guy on 2/11/25State Theatre - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

Films - good, but not super relatable. Example: RedBull-funded iceberg-waterfall-kayakers based on 125' former military ships! What? They have a ship with 5 crew, so four dudes can find icy waterfalls for 90-second rides? Then there was the ultramarathoner who did three 'ultras' in a season and somehow didn't die. Okay. Anyway, somehow these didn't work for me. But maybe I got off on the wrong foot when the venue made me throw my 2"penknife in the garbage before I went in the door. Hated that. Next year Banff? Eh. Maybe.

  • Long time fan

by Sebago Pizza on 2/10/25State Theatre - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

( I have viewed the Tour in Georgia and Maine in the same season previously. ) In New England, we were most connected with "109 below"but couldn't relate as well to others before intermission. Sorry to have missed offerings after the break.

  • Awe-struck

by SueGG on 2/19/24Avalon Theatre - Grand JunctionRating: 5 out of 5

Watching athletic performances I would never do but love watching others do in fantastic scenery. The camera operators should win a prize too!

  • First Time, Was Great!

by GoGoJo on 2/19/24Avalon Theatre - Grand JunctionRating: 4 out of 5

Videos were engaging and moving. Lots of color, scenery and kick-ask action. Overall a great night. One drawback was audio/sound set dangerously loud for those of us who are trying to protect our hearing. Next time will bring ear plugs.

  • Banff Films

by Fran on 2/19/24Avalon Theatre - Grand JunctionRating: 4 out of 5

Great films. The collage of snippets at the beginning was fantastic. Other films were very good, although some were a bit long, causing the whole program to be too long. Great way to raise $ and awareness for local outdoor programs.

  • More Outdoor Adventure Less Human Interest

by West Slope Steve on 2/19/24Avalon Theatre - Grand JunctionRating: 3 out of 5

The films were all quality productions, but I attend Banff FF for the adrenalin rush, not the human interest stories that were the dominant theme of the evening. An LA kid interested in amphibians is great, but belongs on PBS, not Banff. Berkie tandem skiers was entertaining and probably the best film of the evening. Mountain biker destroying wilderness by going off trail has no place in this series.

  • Soul Touching

by Heather on 2/18/24Avalon Theatre - Grand JunctionRating: 5 out of 5

The films they show stay with you long after you leave the theater. A piece of them stay with you forever. You only see them with Banff Film Festival!!

  • Great films!

by Lc on 2/8/24The National Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the film selection. The location was good because it was near Metro stations in the downtown.

  • Fantastically Inspiring and Humbling!

by BFFFAN on 2/5/24The National Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Extreme adventures and/or extreme locations beautiful photographed. It is always awesome, inspiring and a bit humbling. True eye candy. I truly get lost in the stories and the scenery.

  • poor screen quality and speakers were not working

by DDL on 4/17/23Bally's Lake Tahoe - StatelineRating: 2 out of 5

what a disappointment. The screen was WAY TOO SMALL for the size of the venue, and only one side of the auditorium the speakers were working. The screen had a huge scratch that ran all the way across the screen and was annoying. With films of better quality, it was a shame the festival had such poor facilities to show their films.

  • My biggest complaint was the subtitles

by Hil on 3/22/23Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 3 out of 5

The subtitles were white and most of the background (snow for instance) was white. So, you couldn’t read them. Pretty bad mistake I would say All the extremes sports movies were a tad bit much.

  • EXCELLENT!

by Merann on 3/18/23Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Loved ALL the films we saw at BANFF! They were varied and inspiring to live better. Live harder. Live with a bigger mindset. The only problem was we were unable to finish the film of two athletes biking and skiing across Europe, and I’m a cyclist and wanted to see how it ended! It was a technical difficulty I guess, but they went to intermission then picked up with the next video in the series. Otherwise I would have definitely rated the experience 5 stars!

  • Great venue. Good selection of shorts.

    by Sandy 1 on 3/18/23Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Too bad there were technical difficulties. Resolved but missed the end of one short because of it. Some years are great!!!! Some tears I have been disappointed. I have been numerous times in multiple cities. This year was good+ !

  • Loved it!

by Drew on 3/16/23Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Action packed! Delivered everything a mountain film festival should!

  • Wonderful films!

by Suz on 3/1/23Avalon Theatre - Grand JunctionRating: 5 out of 5

Both nights were excellent and we really enjoyed the variety.

  • Incredible cinematography

by SandyHD on 3/1/23Avalon Theatre - Grand JunctionRating: 5 out of 5

Positives: The films were amazing in quality of the cinematography. Overall a nice variety of topics, themes, sports were covered. The Hawaiian cultural film had the message incredibly diluted by having so much coverage of the beautiful girl in the bikini, that was disappointing as the cultural impact on the natives of losing their cultureby having a non-written language forbidden is very relevant and impacted the people for many generations and likely will never be entirely recaptured. A few negatives: - In the past films were selected for our local market and were more relevant to our demographic and the overall interests of the community. -The theatre was not set up to accept the same ticket as a 2 day pass resulting in problems scanning in for the second night.

  • Fun, but not the best year!

by COMahoney on 2/27/23Avalon Theatre - Grand JunctionRating: 4 out of 5

7th year at the Banff FF in Grand Junction, we look forward to seeing the films every year. 1st night wasn't as enjoyable as the 2nd night. Films were good this year, but only a few standouts for us! Still won't miss it again next year, as we love to support the local non-profits and it's fun to get out and connect with the community.

  • Banff Grand Junction

by Cindy on 2/27/23Avalon Theatre - Grand JunctionRating: 5 out of 5

Such a fun annual event! An upbeat party atmosphere, a great variety of prizes and awesome film lineups. Every film is different but always of the highest variety . I heartily recommend this event for a great midwinter pick me up. An added benefit: it raises funds which the local Rotary Club puts towards its many local recipients. A win, win all the way around!!

  • Like the short nature

by Doc on 2/27/23Avalon Theatre - Grand JunctionRating: 5 out of 5

Love these shows. This is about the only movie theater show I go to. It is more raw than a full production film.

  • Banff Film Festival

by Leslie on 2/27/23Avalon Theatre - Grand JunctionRating: 5 out of 5

This was our first experience of the Banff Film Festival and we were not sure what to expect. Since going both Friday and Saturday, I have recommended to all my family and friends that they must go if the opportunity presents. The stories are about individuals pursuing their dreams and making dreams happen for others. Many showed women excelling in an area and then opening the door for others to follow. Amazing what humans can do with both the mind and body.
