Audra McDonald is wonderful. She has a personality that comes thru to her audience. She can sing various styles and is a sheer pleasure to watch and listen to. If u have a chance to see her...go!

  • great voice. not the best choice of music

    by Suziesilver1 on 3/23/15Van Wezel - SarasotaRating: 4 out of 5

She's really an amazing talent with a beautiful voice and was very personable, but I wasn't a great fan of her selection of songs. Somewhere Over the Rainbow has been done a thousand times. Many of the songs from new composers were cute and wordy, but didn't have very memorable melodies. Also, she professes to care about "women" and "inequality" but has an all male over-40 white backup band. Surely she could find at least one great musician of another color or gender.

  • Audra was a dream!

The measure of a good performer in my eyes is the talent she can bring to a live show. I have heard recordings of Audra McDonald, but none compare to hearing her in person. Her professionalism on stage made me respect her. Her brief personal stories in between songs made me relate to her. Her music and ability to project emotion and feeling into every note made me love her. I wish the concert would have been twice as long. She sang a great mix of well known songs and also a few rising stars. ¡Brava!

We like Audra McDonalds music, but weren't familiar with all of it, nor with her on stage presence. Her voice is magnificent, and she is a super entertainer. I would see her again in a minute.

  • Audra McDonald was wicked awesome in Tucson

by bobear on 3/18/15Fox Tucson Theatre - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

Bought tickets as soon as hearing she was coming to Tucson. Saw her last August in "Lady Day ..." with friends in NYC. McDonald is so talented that it seems she trained her voice to sound like Billie Holiday so closed my eyes for a short while and it sounded as if Billie Holiday was actually there performing. Hopefully will have a chance to see McDonald in Williamstown, MA this summer

  • Equal to my expectations

by larrynathan on 3/18/15Fox Tucson Theatre - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

After a purposefully slow first song, Ms. McDonald masterfully sang through a classic songbook which showed the full range of her voice and talent. Quite brilliant!

  • What a Voice!

Audra McDonald is a must see performer. Not only is her voice superb as is the selection of songs for the show, but she's also so personally that the audience loves her by the end of the performance.

  • Brilliant

The best voice out there........In concert, she's as amazing as she is on Broadway. She also throws in some casual chit-chat between songs to show her human side.

  • Audra McDonald is Awesome

Ms. McDonald is very engaging and connects with the audience. She is very socially conscious and talked about the background of the songs. Her voice is amazing and I would see her again.

  • Beyond Talented

by Nondis on 3/18/15Fox Tucson Theatre - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

Audra McDonald is beyond talented! As a classically trained mezzo-soprano, her vocal renditions are exceptional. Breath control, range, interpretation, diction, dynamics - having the training to execute these techniques masterfully is the reason she can perrform sixty-two concerts in fifty-two weeks! Then, there's the actress, the storyteller - both in her narration and in her singing - the personal engagement with the audience is intimate no matter the size of theatre. Audra's expressive face and voice quality (intonation) can put a smile on your face or tears in your eyes. This was the second time I have seen and heard Audra live - and I would travel hundreds of miles to see her again. This concert was beyond stellar!

  • Off the charts-Audra!

What an amazing night with Audra McDonald! I have been a fan of hers for many years, and I am talking a "Broadway" fan. I appreciate that she did TV, but Broadway is what I am all about. Her voice was incredible although I read her Tweets that she had recently had to cancel a show due to a cold. I was SO happy it wasn't our show that was cancelled. I loved her repertoire which included songs that I hadn't thought of her singing. Her personality and showmanship was in stellar form and there were really no low points in the performance. Her songs gave me goose bumps and her stories made me laugh. Couldn't have asked for a better night that I had anticipated for a whole year. I feel so lucky to have been able to experience her LIVE. She is full of amazing surprises and of course a multitude of talent.

  • Audra never disappoints: gives 1000% every moment

by dgGoes211 on 2/24/15Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

I've heard and seen Audra onstage several times: mostly at the Ravinia Festival in concert versions of Sondheim shows as well as her own concert, and twice on Broadway. She never fails to enthrall and surprise. Her level of artistry is unsurpassed, her vocal instrument a national treasure. And she's disarmingingly funny and self-effacing; come on: she IS "Gorgeous," as one of her songs says. As a native Iowan, I loved that she paid attention to where she was and honored our state and the city and venue she was performing in. I'm an even bigger fan of hers than I was before Saturday night.

  • Wow!

by Anonymous on 2/24/15Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des MoinesRating: 5 out of 5

Audra McDonald was fantastic- she is an American treasure. While not familiar with every song, I loved every song. Her voice is a powerhouse and she has the personality to shine even when she is not singing. A memoriable date night. The DM symphony is a class act and seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as the audience.

  • Audra is hands down the best!

  • Audra was Amazing!

Audra McDonald is one America's great current talents. Her voice is mesmerizing and extremely powerful. This was her first time in Rochester, New York and she did not disappoint with her beautiful voice. If she comes to your city please don't hesitate to see this great modern American treasure!

  • Not what I expected.

by Lubomyr on 1/12/15Parker Playhouse - Ft LauderdaleRating: 3 out of 5

Audra McDonald was great when she was singing. Didn't expect three-quarters of the show to consist of her and Mr. Rudetsky chatting. I thought a concert consisted of songs and music. I have tickets for the upcoming Sutton Foster show. Hope it has more music than this show did.
