What a wonderful show! 2 hours of beautiful, interesting music! Such a lovely afternoon of talent and expression!
Audra McDonald engaged the audience from the moment she stepped on stage...and kept us wanting more for over 2 hours. Her selection of songs was diverse and her background on why she made the choices was educational. She also took the opportunity to demonstrate her activism for causes....and why she felt the way she did. I wanted to listen to her sing all day...and have coffee with her to discuss the state of affairs!
As expected, Audra's voice was phenomenal - despite her statement that she had a cold - and her audience connection was very strong. One takeaway - my wife and I both found her playlist below average. We were hoping to hear more Broadway songs that we fondly recalled. Felt like we heard what she fondly recalled. If you go, do so because of her voice, not because of the repertoire you'll hear, but "Climb Every Mountain" will blow you away at the end.
It was a great concert. There are a few things that would have made it "perfect" In my opinion. First, there should have been an intermission. Most people are used to an intermission when they go to the theater, plus most of the WONDERFUL songs she performed were not high tempo songs so it felt like the audience could have used a break to refresh. Second, while I agree with Audra's views on equality 100% , I think she should not stress or push the issue at her concerts. Mentioning it or even singing one song dedicated to it is fine BUT not make it akward for her audience. It felt akward and uneasy when she performed songs about Gay people. Again, I share her same views but it was obvious that it made the audience uncomfortable and bordered on slightly not necessary or the appropriate time. Okay with all that being said it was a great show Audra's voice and presence was wonderful. I am glad I was there. The theater is beautiful and makes you feel like royalty sitting there.
Show was very festive! What an amazing voice for such a phenomenal woman. She showcased her extensive vocal range with mastery and distinction! Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
As usual, Lady Broadway was simply amazing!! Though she started the concert by saying she was sick and wasn't sure what would be coming out of her mouth, she was going to give us the best she had.Well, you could have fooled us, on the sick thing!! I believe she sang somewhat lower than normal, but she still nailed the high notes. She is, simply put, a stunning performer!! Her commitment to the Broadway genre is so strong... she always does older songs not heard in many years, and gives full credit to the Icons of Broadway who preceded her. Her notable outspoken commitment to charities such as Covenant House & LGBT rights make her such a forceful dynamo in her life, and in her performances! If you have an opportunity to see Audra, seize it! You will be so happy you did!!
She is incomparable. She comes across in a very human way.
This vocalist has a range that is so unique and beautiful. She said she'd been sick 2 days before and didn't know how she'd sound at this performance, but if she hadn't told us we would never have known. She has a wonderful repertoire and was mesmerizing
This was my first time at NJPAC. The Center was beautiful and the ushers were great. The performance was awesome!!
It's hard to imagine how she could be any better. Fantastic performance. Very carried from Broadway to funky. Filled with energy, warmth and a voice that is to die for. Rich, vibrant, bursting. We enjoyed it thoroughly
Audra McDonald put on the best concert I have ever attended. Her voice is spectacular, her three piece orchestra supported her without drowning her out, every word could be heard, the song selection was superb and her story telling and stage presence was fantastic. She said she was not feeling well and concerned how she would sound. I, as well as others around me, said I wonder what she would sound like if she felt well.
she's wonderful beautiful enchanting vocals i would of liked a different program. all this copyright stuff makes it hard for an artist to sing what they want
A truly talented, compasionate and audience driven performer she exceeded our expectations on so many levels. Her set list, coupled with a range of emotions let the audience look inside her and hear her love of Broadway. Her trio was a well oiled machine who played and executed brilliantly on her every song selection. I would recommend her highly to anyone looking for an evening of song that is entertaining and fun.
In addition to having a wonderful voice, Audra is very personable. She intermingles her songs with just the right amount of comments on its meaning, songwriter, and other background comments. She also has a wonderful sense of humor as well as a serious side. She is an all-around terrific entertainer!!
Audra was very relatable singing to a sold out crowd of mixed ages and backgrounds. She lives in NY City and knows the flavor of this tri-state area. She sang a rather "salty" song just for the New Jersey folks, and we love it, because we love the realness of Audra! I have recommended this show to many of my friends, but tickets must be purchased early, because they go really fast.
Audra McDonald sang music from the American theater. Most of the songs were obscure to me, but she closed with "Climb Every Mountain" & "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". Her vocal range is unbelievable. She is also very personable speaking between songs and telling stories about her life and the songs she was singing. It was a great sunday afternoon.
Audra is a warm friendly entertainer with a voice range & quality that is outstanding. It was like you were in her living room. She told a story & gave background info on almost every song. What a fantastic afternoon.
Just great. Told friends that they missed an incredible performance.
There is a reason or many reasons why one person wins six Tony Awards!! She should be given a seventh Tony for Sunday's performance! Flawless and Superb!!
Audra McDonald was absolutely wonderful. Charming with a voice that is a gift from heaven. A delightful experience.
