Audra sings closer to an angel with the spirit of an enlightened advocate. She was amazing and we adored every note! Pure magic!
Not only is Audra McDonald a magnificent singer, she is so entertaining. She had a captivating personality, telling personal stories of each song. She was so entertaining and such an amazing voice I would definitely see her again.
Audra sang amazing songs and her voice is undeniable one of the best in this era. Chatted with the audience and got us involved. Spoke about civil Rights, Equality and history as well as a lot of funny and personal moments. I was amazed at every note. A show to be seen over and over.
Stupendous, Excellent, Amazing performer!!!! I highly recommend both Audra and the theatre at Long Island University at CW Post Campus!
This was the most heartfelt event I have attended at Bergen Pac, and I have attended many. Audra McDonald is an exceptional talent and an exceptional person. She shared her feelings and her beliefs with the audience which show her to be a true humanist. This is an event that will be remembered.
Audra McDonald's concert was perfection. Her voice and choice of music is thrilling. I enjoyed her stories and how her passions connected to her music.
Audra McDonald's concert at Bergen PAC was amazing: her voice can do well-nigh everything, and she provides dynamic shadings that make her songs, familiar and not, "alive" in the freshest ways. Whether singing "Maybe this time" or other Kander and Ebb songs; or new songs by not yet established song-writers (and she is committed to adding to the "American Songbook" repetory), you feel you are hearing them for the first time. There were wonderful comic songs--one from Cole Porter in the 1920s and one about facebook that were hilarious. There were "Summertime" and "Go Back Home" (from "The Scottsboro Boys") that has been a part of her concerts since the show opened in New York, and is on here last album; there were "Somewhere over the rainbow" and "Climb Every Moutain"; there was the wonderful "flower song" from "On a Clear Day" ... and so much more. An amazing generous performer of miraculous gifts.
One of the best singers of our generation. Her performance was outstanding
Audra McDonald's concert at Bergen PAC was part of a gala for their School of Perofrming Arts. I can briefly sum up her performance as brilliant, engaging, and often magical. Her selection of songs, show tunes from the "old masters," i.e., Porter, Sondheim, Styne, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Kander & Ebb, combined with songs by some of the newer composers who she champions (Jason Robert Brown), was impeccable, as usual, and she was in fantastic voice. A big highlight was "Maybe This Time" from "Cabaret," which she imbued with intense passion and vocal pyrotechnics that were not overdone. She is simply the best. The problem was the audience and their cell phones, picture taking, and running up and down the aisles to get to the noisy open bar in the lobby during the show. This was not Las Vegas, nor an outdoor concert at Wolf Trap. Rude, rude, rude. Bergen PAC's ushers were no help in silencing the cell phones. Ms. McDonald jokingly commented to the audience that she knew they were on their cell phones because their faces were all aglow from their lighted phones. Mine was aglow from her singing and I will choose to remember the evening that way.
Audra was a pleasure to watch and listen to. I would have liked her to sing a few modern day songs but also some Billy Holiday classics.
Fantastic voice however her choice of songs to sing left a lot to be desired...Have seen her In many Broadway shows and only wish she had song a song from Rag Time as an example.. A
A lot off talking, good strong voice. Below my expectation, It's sound like: I am primadonna, and you are not deserve my talent . Below my expectation.
Ms. McDonald, although she is warm and friendly the power of her voice and heart warrant a formal name, demonstrated a vocal quality second to none in the theater or concert performance. Her selection of material was broad and whimsical. The fact that she ended on what has become my wife's favorite piece from the Sound of Music capped a perfect concert.
I can't say enough about Audra McDonald. She is just an unbelievable performer. What makes her even more amazing is how down to earth she is. She easily connects with the audience with educational information about each piece and humor with stories about her life. Even though she was sick during the show, she hit every note, as she always does. I have seen her live on Broadway and numerous times in concerts and she has never disappointed her audiences. She is simply marvelous. Her voice is truly breath taking. Next up: Broadway 2016..Can't wait!
Audra McDonald has an exquisite voice and a charming and warm stage presence. She could sing the white pages of the phone book and it would be delightful.
Audra is amazing! She shared great insights, personal stories, social history... and sang glorious songs with her magnificent voice.
Audra held us spellbound for over two hours without takng a break--she is simply amazing!!
Audra McDonald was terrific! the Combination of her voice, her appearance, her pleasant interaction with the audience all served to make this one of the best concerts I have attended at the PAC- The fact that she sang for two hours straight without an intermission was simply amazing My wife treated me to this concert as a birthday gift and it was one of the most memorable birthdays I have had
Audra McDonald sang amazingly for 2 hours with no intermission! She gave background to each song and included information about herself. Her voice is so beautiful that I cried during her last song, "Climb Every Mountain".
