More music, less chat!
by Ohiolarry on 1/6/16Parker Playhouse - Ft LauderdaleRating: 3 out of 5Audra McDonald continues to be one of the most outstanding vocalists and song stylists in the U.S. Her song choices were a good sampling of songs she has recorded, and are also her favorites, The problem with the concert was that after every single song, she sat down to chat with the host of the evening and Ms. McDonald's accompanist, Seth Rudetsky. Each chat session lasted close to 10 minutes. Seth Rudetsky is self-absorbed and only cares about making himself look good. He talks extremely fast and is hard to understand. He also continually cut off Ms.McDonald when she tried to answer one of his questions in order to try to (unsuccessfully) make himself appear funny and charming. We paid a substantial amount of money to hear Audra McDonald sing, not to hear Seth Rudetsky talk nonsense for close to two hours. I don't believe Ms. McDonald sang more than eight or nine songs the entire evening. I understand that this format with Mr. Rudetsky is quite common at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale. I would never purchase again a ticket for an event where he is the moderator. I would have given the concert a 5-star rating had Ms. McDonald been allowed to command the stage for the entire concert.
