About

There was no doubt that the Misfits had earned their status as punk rock icons when their latest release, Dead Alive – featuring live material taken from two back-to-back concerts the band gave at the Starland Ballroom in 2011 – was released in February 2013. The album came just as the punk pioneers kicked off their 2013 American tour, a spirited series of shows that brought their classic, horror-influenced punk-metal to a whole new generation of ticket buyers. Bassist and frontman, Jerry Only, is at peak form in a concert setting, belting out fans' latter-day favorites, revealing the music's thrashing metal influence to its fullest effect. Never straying from the band's hard-driving, melodic sensibilities, the setlist delivers amped-up power, and the audience can't help but get revved up right along with it. Dead Alive reached No. 70 on the Billboard Top 200, and it showcases an intense atmosphere, as the band proves that even after all these years, the Misfits can still deliver the goods.

Emerging in 1977, the Misfits set the stage for a new subgenre of hardcore. Frontman Glenn Danzig's affinity for classic horror movies and literature gave the band a year-round Halloween flavor. Mixing this flair for theatrics with a hard, primal sound quickly sucked in a cult of dedicated fans. After Danzig's departure in 1983 and a couple of changes in lineup, the band pressed on. With the addition of punk veterans Dez Cadena and Marky Ramone, Jerry Only stepped up as frontman, and the band enjoyed a revitalized resurgence. With song titles like "Crawling Eye," "Night of the Living Dead" and "We Bite," the band's love of classic B-grade horror movies is evident. They reflect this love, coming at the listener in torrents of fright-filled energy. The perfect blend of punk and metal allows snarling vocals and thrashing guitars to war for dominance.

    AFI/MISFITS awesome show

    by Emtgirl85 on 7/25/23

Getting offered to upgrade my seat was awesome and so worth it. AFI has been a band I always missed seeing live and I'm so glad I got a last minute tik. Being able to see the Misfits was the perfect ending to an awesome show.

    MIsfits still sound great!

    by CW on 7/25/23

The Misfits still sound great! Jerry and Doyle brought the intensity in the music while Glenn's booming voice carried the tunes. They played most of the songs I was looking forward to hearing and were thoroughly entertaining in performing their songs. My only complaint is that the sound in the Prudential Center was not the best and could have had more clarity. The sound when I saw them at MSG was much better compared to the Prudential Center.

Could not have been a better show. What an honor to get to see the original misfits in 2023! Great sound, better than half the shows I saw at Sick New World Festival. Would 100% go and see them again.

    Experience of a lifetime

    by Snouchies on 7/22/23

I have been dreaming of seeing this concert since I have been in Junior High and this summer the stars somehow magically aligned and Glenn Danzig was playing Misfits songs and AFI also played at the show. It was such an experience and while AFI is always an amazing show, Glenn Danzig did not disappoint. He was full of energy and sounded awesome. I loved the show and will remember the experience forever. Oh yeah and it was as hot as hell.

    Plagued with issues

    by Piggirl on 7/20/23

A trifecta of bands I hadn't seen before and I was excited. No one can control the heat in AZ though and the brutal temps were tough. FEAR came on right on time and played a good set. It might not have been obvious to many though since the sound was iffy at best. At points we couldn't even hear the drums. Thankfully when AFI took the stage the sun was going down as the crowd was amping up. Again a set that should have been fun was plagued with technical issues. Aside from Davey apparently cutting the cord to his mic we could tell they had problems with their in-ears as the drums were off time for much of the set. Additionally whoever was doing the videos that get projected to the big screens was not paying attention. There was nearly as much screen time of the ground and the lights as of the band. And of course the band name butchered across the back of the stage all made for a distracting set. Huge props to the band for powering through though. The main event was of course The Misfits. Suddenly most of the previous technical issues seemed to resolve and the set was everything we could have hoped for. A band of guys pushing into their 60's and they still sound and look great. It was fun that they didn't seem to have a set in stone set list, keeping everyone engaged as the heat finally relented a bit. Glad we had the chance to see all 3 bands but next time we're hoping for a winter show.

    Fear, AFI, the Misfits

    by CSquared on 7/19/23

I would have gladly upgraded had I known Danzig wouldn’t allow the band to be on the big screens. I wanna redo and I will pay more to get closer.
