About

HAMILTON is the story of America then, told by America now.  Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, HAMILTON has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre--a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education.

With book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, HAMILTON is based on Ron Chernow's acclaimed biography. It has won Tony®, Grammy®, and Olivier Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and an unprecedented special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors.

    Love the play story line.

by MarK on 5/3/23Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

Very disappointed in the sound quality especially for Alexander. The orchestra overwhelmed the voices at times. The play has such clever lyrics and I could fill in the pieces that I couldn’t hear only because I know the lyrics very well.

    Great Show/Lousy sound

    by W. W. on 5/3/23Old National Centre - Indianapolis

Excellent performance by performers. Sold out house very appreciative, especially initial appearance by King George and President Jefferson and at final bows. Well worth the ticket cost. Unfortunately the amplified performer voices had to compete with the music amplifiers and suffered as a result. This show requires intense concentration by the audience to the rapid patter by each of the stage performers for the performance to be understood. The overly loud apparent amplification of some (not all) of the backround music/beat made that concentration to the performer's words very difficult. Overall sound volume was intense. Maybe my seat location (upper level row G, seat 9, center) was a sound focal point of the venue and made overall volume concentrated at that location. Maybe the control board techs failed to apply adequate volume of the performers to compensate for the music. This performance had riotous signing interpreters on right side, next to stage on main floor. I wondered how they kept up with the stage patter, then I realized they had no script before them and mostly relied on memory of the script to keep up. The interpreters physical mannerisms were reflected by what was happening on stage(more likely the other way around) and were were a nice respite from the sometimes overwhelming intensity of the stage performance and the constant assault on the ears. I wished I had knowledge of what they were signing so I could have a second source for an understanding of what the stage performers were actually saying. The lone male interpreter was entertaining to watch and quite impressive. Overall I was pleased with the show and loved the set, especially the rotating floor, but would bring ear protection next time.

    worst venue ever

    by K. A. on 5/3/23Old National Centre - Indianapolis

This was by far the absolute worst venue I have ever experienced. The blatant disrespect the venue allows towards the performers was awful. They offered free refills on popcorn and literally let patrons come and go at free will all during the show to get refills. I bet the door opened a minimum 100 times during the show. I stood in the back the entire 2nd half so I could actually see the show and watched the same dad go out 4 times with his 2 boxes of popcorn. They do not have enough bathrooms for the ladies to use and get back before 2nd half starts. I watched many ladies come in after the 2nd half started at no fault to them.

    PHENOMENAL !

by Bree on 5/3/23Old National Centre - Indianapolis

This was an amazing play! I thought going in that it would be hard to live up to the original cast for Hamilton but boy did they prove me wrong! The singing, dancing, and stage was breathtaking! I already want to see this show again!

Not the best representation of Hamilton

by This Guy on 5/3/23Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

I've seen Hamilton four times, in three different cities. While this one was good, it was the weakest cast I've seen so far. Some actors were wonderful, but others - according to the program - had little experience beyond local and regional theater, and it showed. They had issues with timing and with locking in with the musicians. The biggest issue, though, was the sound. The tech seemed unable to balance the sound correctly between different actors and the orchestra. A couple of times, the orchestra got suddenly very loud. At one point, the bass guitar overpowered the rest of the music. And some more soft-spoken actors were not turned up to balance their voices with actors to whom they were speaking. Overall, it was a nice night at the theater - and the audience loved the show and cheered wildly - but there's an expectation (at least from me) that a Hamilton show will be especially good, and that the cast and crew will rise to the level of the amazing material. For me, they didn't quite get there on the night I saw it.

    Anniversary Show

by CB on 5/2/23Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

We went to Hamilton as an Anniversary celebration, but it has been a bucket list item of mine for years. It was everything! I loved the pace, the stage, the fact that they did so much with relatively little in the way of set decor. The actors were phenomenal, spot on for their characters, and the voices were to die for. I enjoyed every single minute of the performance and while it was fairly long for this style of production, i could've watched for hours longer. Just A+ all the way around.

    Beyond Expectations!

by L Zimny on 5/2/23Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

From the moment the lights came up and the band began to play all of the way to the final note, this performance was perfection! We laughed, cheered, and shed some tears as the cast and crew drew us in with their incredible story telling. We were captivated for the entire performance. The stage and tech crews did a phenomenal job of supporting those on stage with the technical aspect of lighting and stage movement adding additional depth to the performance. Absolutely one of the best nights of our year so far!

    Absolutely Amazing

by Jess on 5/2/23Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

Everything about Hamilton is just wonderful. This was my first opportunity to see the show since the Disney+ streaming with the original cast, and I wondered if it would be noticeably different. Absolutely phenomenal. We all had a blast, and I can't wait to see it again. The Orpheum is a lovely theater: we were in the nosebleeds (Row S in the top balcony) and it didn't feel far away.

    Amazing

by Amy L on 5/1/23Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

What an amazing experience. The traveling troupe for Hamilton was first rate! Voices were strong. Performances were impactful. King George was perfect. And seats on the main floor center made us feel part of the show. Can’t wait to do it again!

    Hamilton exceeded my expectations

by LJ on 5/1/23Old National Centre - Indianapolis

After watching Hamilton on Disney+ more times than I care to admit and listening to the music the last several years, I was so excited to see it live. Every performer was top notch. They added their own little personal twist to their characters, which surprisingly added to the production. I didn’t think it was possible for any other cast to live up to my expectations, but they were wonderful. If I lived closer to the venue, I would try to get tickets for a second night.

    Super show!

by CM on 5/1/23Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

Hamilton was awesome and the crowd was really into it which made it really fun. Most of the cast were very easy to understand while rapping - it just took a bit to get your ear attuned to it. Everyone’s acting was spot on - and Hamilton, George Washington and the main female characters were stupendous. Really enjoyable - would see it again!
