Great Show/Lousy sound
by W. W. on 5/3/23Old National Centre - IndianapolisExcellent performance by performers. Sold out house very appreciative, especially initial appearance by King George and President Jefferson and at final bows. Well worth the ticket cost. Unfortunately the amplified performer voices had to compete with the music amplifiers and suffered as a result. This show requires intense concentration by the audience to the rapid patter by each of the stage performers for the performance to be understood. The overly loud apparent amplification of some (not all) of the backround music/beat made that concentration to the performer's words very difficult. Overall sound volume was intense. Maybe my seat location (upper level row G, seat 9, center) was a sound focal point of the venue and made overall volume concentrated at that location. Maybe the control board techs failed to apply adequate volume of the performers to compensate for the music. This performance had riotous signing interpreters on right side, next to stage on main floor. I wondered how they kept up with the stage patter, then I realized they had no script before them and mostly relied on memory of the script to keep up. The interpreters physical mannerisms were reflected by what was happening on stage(more likely the other way around) and were were a nice respite from the sometimes overwhelming intensity of the stage performance and the constant assault on the ears. I wished I had knowledge of what they were signing so I could have a second source for an understanding of what the stage performers were actually saying. The lone male interpreter was entertaining to watch and quite impressive. Overall I was pleased with the show and loved the set, especially the rotating floor, but would bring ear protection next time.
