  • Annie ~ Did not follow original script

by ButterflyLove on 1/19/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

The Fox is beautiful, the experience of taking my sons to the musical was exciting and wonderful. The staff and volunteers were great too. Annie has been revised... I was disappointed by the deviation from the original script. It was my absolute favorite play in the 1970's. I missed the song "Sandy". There was wayyyyy too much adult conversation. The children were amazing. Molly shined. Annie was very, very good. I loved watching her, she was a great representation. Looking forward to the Sound of Music in August.

  • Annie was wonderful!

This was an incredible experience. My parents took us years ago to see Annie at the Fox, when we were 6 & 8, and today we came together as a family, my parents, sister & brother-in-law, their 4 1/2yr old daughter and myself & my husband to share a perfect day and an unforgettable memory....my neices first Musical at the Fox Theatre. The actors were great - hitting each and every mark effortlessly. The singing was a perfect pleasure to experience. I'm always amazed at children who can sing and perform so well. The one thing I missed was the moving sidewalk & background during the NYC scene that I've seen in previous versions of the play. I also thought the backgrounds in the Warbucks mansion could have been a bit brighter to give a larger contrast between the orphanage & Hooverville areas. Overall, I would definitely recommend taking your children to see this play regardless if they are young, in the teens or young adults. And if your an adult who hasn't seen the play go and enjoy. Annie has a wonderful story of being optomistic and doing the "right" thing. The only warning I would give is they do say about 6 or 7 curse words that really stand out against the wholesomeness of the play and as most bad language goes doesn't add anything extra to the scene.

We recently saw the Sunday at 1:30 Annie show. I took two of my children (eight-year old daughter and five-year old son). The show was wonderful...great music and fabulous acting. I was amazed by the talent of the very young kids in the show - they were all terrific, but the little girl playing Annie was outstanding. I highly recommend this show for both parents and children. However, there were quite a few kids in the audience who were just too young to sit still for the time required for this type of event. At times, it got very loud and I felt badly for the actors. My five-year old really enjoyed it and did fairly well sitting, but he barely made it without being disruptive...I would discourage bringing children under the age of five. Otherwise, a great experience and one my kids will remember for a long time. They are already asking when they can see another musical.

The Fox is always an amazing place for a show. The show itself was super. Quite a father - daughter event....even if daughter is 19 already. A great show and great time.

  • Annie lives up to 4 year old expectations

by amybmarie on 1/18/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

We took my 4.5 year old daughter to see Annie because she has always loved the movie. Althought the play was a little too long for a young child (almost 3 hours), she did pretty well. We did have to take a few walks to get the wiggles out and we ended up watching the last 5 minutes from the stairs, but it was worth it. She has been talking about it non stop. The actors were great and it followed closely enough to the movie that she knew what was going on.

  • Annie at the FOX - Sunday 1/17

by AtlantaShowBuff on 1/18/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed myself. Madison Kerth who played Annie had a powerhouse voice. I liked all of the orphan girls, especially little Molly played by Mackenzie Aladjem - she had so much sass. My favorite character overall was definitely Ms. Hannigan played by Lynn Andrews - so vivid and HILAROUS! I did not however appreciate the profanity. The four letter "d" word was used a lot, which I found surprising especially considering this play is geared towards children. I saw Irving Berlin's White Christmas on Broadway in NYC back in December and there was NO cursing. This displeased me. Also I didn't care for the NYC scene. I feel the costumes and set did not jive, no coherence at all. And I didn't care for the song (maybe I was distracted by the bad costumes). I enjoyed the traditional songs: Maybe (loved it every time!), It's the Hard-Knock Life, Tomorrow, Little Girls, and Easy Street was great :o) Some of the sets at the Warbuck's Home could've used more pizzaz also. But still overall it gets two thumbs up.

  • A great show for children and adults!

by Jommy on 1/18/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

My grandaughter's first time at the Fox and we both enjoyed it. The sets were great and the children were so talented. Beautiful clear voices. Ms. Hannigan was a HOOT!

  • Annie went from a G rating to a R

by Anonymous on 1/18/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

I was extremly disappointed in the cursing in the show. I brought my daughter and the show was 65% children, and the amount of cursing was disgusting. The little girls sitting in front of me would put their hands over their mouths and look at their parents every time the curse words was said. I am saddend to see a wonderful classic protrayed in this light. I feel that I wasted $110.00, and compromised my teachings for my child by bringing her to a show of this manner. I had never been to the Fox before and I hate to say that this is what I will remember of this memberal time in my life.

  • Annie rocked!!

I have never seen the story of Annie previously. The music coupled with the heartwrenching story was OUTSTANDING and the acting abilities truly brought the story to real life. Loved it, loved it, telling everyone we know!!!

  • Wonderful experience!

by GABroadwayfan on 1/18/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Every aspect of this event was great -- online tickets, online parking reservation, and the outstanding entertainment. I took two grandchildren (ages 7 & 11) to Annie as an inaugural musical theater experience. The story of Annie is so appealing to children, and the good old fashioned happy ending is simply heart warming. They were enthralled by *everything* - the orchestra, the staging, as well as the performers! We sat in the loge section at the Fox, a perfect place to take it all in.

The show was somewhere between good and great! We thought Ms. Hannigan made the show. Great voice. Great character. We found ourselves consistently waiting for the scenes with her and the orphan girls. The orphan girls were wonderful, too. Annie had an amazing voice. I cannot believe that such great talent exists in such a young child. There were some new songs that were introduced that we had never heard before. One was good - one was not that great. But regardless, it is weird to introduce new songs to a show that has been around for decades and that is known to be a classic.

This was a great production! It was way better than I was expecting and made me remember how wonderful the stage version of Annie is!

  • Annie was not so great!

    by atlmom08 on 1/18/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

Overall the play was okay. I gave it two stars for the high price and the low caliber of performers.

  • Annie was exceptional

All the characters were great. The character that played Daddy Worbuck was probally the best. Overall, the play was an excelent event.

  • Fun for all ages

There were six people in our party at "Annie" Saturday night. All were entertained, from the 6-year-old to his grandfather, who is 72. Fabulous music, great costuming. If you take a small child, ask for a booster seat. It's a long performance and I didn't realize they were available.

  • Annie was Great!!!

I took my 4.5 year old daughter. She loved the entire show. However, the actors did use the "D" word quite a bit. She didn't make notice of it, but I did. Overall, it was an awesome experience! We are looking forward to our next event!!!

  • Everything a musical should be

    by AtlMomTo2Girls on 1/18/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

This was a flawless performance of Annie. I saw it on Broadway when I was a girl, and since then I've only seen the movie version. But this was everything it should have been... great singing, great dancing, great acting, costumes, sets, etc. The orchestra was fantastic. This was the first musical I've taken my daughters to see, and they loved it.
