Great music and acting...we were in the rear and could still hear....all of their voices were great.
The performance, while differing from other versions, was filled with amazing talent. The singing was superior and the choreography theatrical with a bit of deliberate movement detectable. Having attended the show with 3 young ladies, two age 6 and one age 8, it was apparent that the show ran a bit long. Sometimes a little less is more. Unfortunately, that would have meant eliminating more of the story line but some was unnecessary as with the President Roosevelt involvement (really vague and lacked impact) and the script fell short in filling in the gaps. Overall, the performance was lovely and for the most part, until the last scene, was focused. The final scene in the mansion, with everything going on, lost focus and our attention. It was trying too hard to shove a bunch of pieces into one scene and close out the audience confusion. Honestly, I would refine the story line anMad redistribute the dialogue. The end paled in comparison to the overall performance. The performance could be fine tuned, yet we still truly enjoyed the show.
not as good as the movie. Most of my favorite parts are changed or left out. Overall a good play.
Annie was really enjoyable! The singing was great - especially "Tomorrow" sung by Madison Kerth who played Annie. Ms Hannigan played by Lynn Andrews was a delight to watch! All in all, I would recommend Annie to anyone who enjoys great theater!
I took my Grandaughter who is 4 1/2 to this. It was her first "Broadway Play" experience. She loved it. That night after we got home she called and said "We need to go again when I am Five". Good production!
The cast was great and the music was unforgettable! The audience was so into the show and that made it even more exciting!
I have seen Annie at the Fox before and thought it was wonderful. However, this time it was even better! My husband, 9 year-old daughter and I enjoyed every second of the show. The orchestra was superb; the acting was phenomenol; the singing incredible! Indoor and outdoor scenes were great. The scenery was great and movement from one scene to another just flowed so smoothly from one scene to the next. My daughter was smiling from the time the curtain opened until it closed. The only negative comment I have has only to do with the audience. I was amazed at the number of people who came in late and disturbed others getting to their seats and at how many people were up and down during the play only to come back with refreshments. I was taught that it was just WRONG to come in late to a theater or leave during the performance unless it was an emergency. Just my humble opinion on that one.
I saw Annie in Chicago a couple of years ago and the performance was MUCH better than last night's. It was higher energy and more exciting. In fact, the reason I decided to go to Annie again was because the 1st performance I saw was so amazing. I was a little disappointed this time around.
I thought the orphan crew along with Annie really were a big hit. Little Molly was awesome.
Took 3 grandaughters. They loved it but a little long for the six year old.
Not a good Annie this year at all. We went last year and it was superb! Both of my children who are theater geeks and both actors fell asleep during the show - they have NEVER fallen asleep in ANY show and we have been to hundreds. 3 people sitting in front of us, were dead asleep through the second half. Annie's singing was great but her acting was horrendous - - thank goodness for Daddy's upbeat personality and character. The entire play was very monotone and the set was very sad.
Loved Grace's persona, voice, and costuming; ideal Daddy Warbucks, but wish he didn't have to swear ... could still get point across; youngest orphan was sensationally talented and stole the show; Annie's curlie wig wasn't attractive and cute enough for her face, but terrific voice; oldest orphan was brilliant; presidential scene and voices were mesmerizing; the one actress who played many roles was a star in her own right; good starlet; kudos to the professional set design; very well rehearsed. Thank you for an enjoyable, entertaining afternoon. I was also impressed with the Red Cross Haiti relief donation plea. Very well done ... just right. Oh, smooth transition in getting Grace's microphone to work on the Wednesday matinee. Lily's energy, showmanship, or swagger needs to come up a tiny bit.
The cast was mixed with some doing a very good job, while others held back. I was disappointed and thought my daughters middle school play version of Annie was better. Additionally after the play, I felt is if I was at the circus the way they were trying to push souvenirs.
I thought this play was great!! The kids did an excellent job as well as the adults. Everyone was on target and it was just as good as it was in years before. We brought a range of ages with us from 9 years old to 49 years old and each one of us loved it. Every character was excellent and complimented each other very well.
The casting and acting was quite poor in general. First of all, until the very end, Annie had straight hair. I have never seen an Annie with straight hair before. She looked rediculous. Secondly, she was too big/tall compared to other Annies I have seen. But worse than that was Daddy Warbucks. He was far too nice when he first met Annie. Part of the story is that Daddy Warbucks only cares about money and Annie transforms him over time to care about much more. However, in this show, he took to Annie right away and I didn't feel like that aspect was very believable. I will say that the voices and singing overall were very good. But all in all, it was a "cheap" and "corny" version of a classic musical. My 4 year old daughter enjoyed it but this is her first musical ever and has nothing to compare it to. If you are looking for a really good rendition of Annie, skip this one. If you have some time and money to burn and don't care if its a little too far from the original story, then go for it.
A terrific performance - and a great cast of children! Must see.
Really enjoyable experience with an incredible cast!
I brought my 6 year daughter the show and we both loved it! Annie has a special place in my heart as it was a show I saw multiple times with my mother in NYC when I was a child. My daughter was singing along and had a smile on her face the whole time. Because she is 6 she got a little antsy in the middle of the show but all in all we had a great time.
Took my daughter to Annie @ Congress Auditorium Theater, for her first stage show. She (we) completely enjoyed ourselves, good seats, great performers, and an overall good time. Would recommend to family/ friends.
Annie is timely for a good dose of optimism in today's world. Sound could have been better balanced in a theater wich acclaimed "perfect acoustics". Overall cast is good, simple backdrop scenery redeemed by a smashing looking last scene. Missed the large orchestra, but the seven piece ensemble did better than expected. Would not have known this was a non-equity production had the critics not pointed it out.
