by D8D8 on 1/23/10Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5In a word, very good. If you are partial to the movie version, you will be disappointed with the appearence of Annie and Miss Hannigan but happy with their acting and singing ability. An 8 pm start is too late for the youngsters, as you are leaving the theatre at 11.
My 5 year old loves the movie and we as parents have seen it many times over as well as memorized the songs, thru no fault of our own. Because of that fact, we knew the words going into the play, so despite the music over-riding the singing at some points, we still understood the physical nuances by the actors that coincided with the words. The story line follows the movie thru the first half and then deviates, though not unenjoyably, in the 2nd half. My daughter was mesmorized right up till she got sleepy towards the end. The play could have also eneded with more of a bang....maybe a song that everyone knew.
