  • Excellent Annie!

Fabulous event. Great actors. We really enjoyed it. We've seen the movie many, many times. This musical or rather production, of course, was a little different, but just as good! I was glad to see the integrity of the original musical was still in tact with this production.

The show was very well done, there were a few additional songs/numbers that were unexpected based on the movie version in which Kathy Bates stared as Miss Hannigan. Went with my 4 and 7 year old daughters and husband, who all loved it. Only drawback was it was very cool in the theater where we were seated, second level, under a balcony. HTere was aconstant breeze and we had our winter coats on the whole time.

My kids loved the show, but I think that some of the casting could have been better. Annie was too old and actress that played Miss Hannagan was great, but she didn't really look the part.

  • Very enjoyable show!

My girls and I loved it!!! The singing was very good. We especially liked the performances of Annie and Daddy Warbucks. It was true to the original as I remembered it from my childhood.

  • "Annie" was adorable!

A very good production, the backdrops and sets were beautiful. The kids were great! We really loved Ms. Hannigan, what an entertainer she was! We also enjoyed the music, the orchestra did a wonderful job.

I went with my 6 yr old daughter, who loved it. I enjoyed as well, and we are both still singing all the songs.

I took my 5 and 10 year old daughters and my mother-in-law. Everybody loved it!! My 5 year old asked me during the intermission when we could come back again.

  • Bad Actors, Bad Set, Bad Timing

    by Jenfa01 on 1/25/10Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

The set was cheap, the acting was cheesy. The orchestra was WAY too loud and overpowered the songs, but in particular was distracting they continued to play during lead ups to and after the songs and made it impossible to hear any of the dialogue. Annie's red dress and wig made her look like the androginous (and neckless) Pat from SNL. I would think they would have been able to come up with a way to update that dress while still remaining true to the caricature. The highlight was that the songs were well done and the singers voices were incredible. But the thing that really baffled me was the timing of the performances. Annie is a musical with kids as a primary target audience. Why they decided to have the show start time at 8 PM with an intermission is beyond me. We noticed many families leaving at Intermission with children passed out on their parents' shoulders. A 7 PM, or even 6:30 PM showing would have been more palatable and my guess is the Autidorium would not have been as empty as it was.

  • A perfect way to celebrate my daughter's birthday!

by Heyanniek on 1/25/10Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The show was amazing and the children performed at a truly professional level. The actress who portrayed Annie was a wonderful singer and Miss Hannigan, Miss Farrell and Daddy Warbucks were outstanding. I saw the play with my mom many years ago at the same theater and it was a great way to share the same joy with my daughter. The theater is a magical place and the actors brought a classic tale to life and made it new!

  • Childhood movie came to life!

by SmdKlf on 1/25/10Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Really was a great show, and even for the crazy seating I have. I was in the upper balcony, and still had a great time. The set was fantastic and acting was really enjoyable. The only negative part was all the side comments from the little kids and parents. All the wrapper noises was annoying too, but the show was for little kids so what can I say. Im certainly happy I decided to go.

  • Average Annie

by Smashette on 1/25/10Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Overall, I really enjoyed the play, though some scenes moved extremely slow for myself and especially for children who need action to keep attention moving. I was disappointed with how violent Miss Hanagen appeared to be in the beginning of the show as she was not at all like that in the movie. There was also a lot of words that were overly used such as shut-up and damn. Very disappointed that Annie had straight red hair, perhaps if you're looking for an artistic take for an older audience that gets it, but my daughter kept asking where Annie was. Loved the ending when the REAL Annie appears (shouldn't have had to wait through entire play to get the curly hair). Also, loved how Sandy was delivered in the box and we got to watch authorities take Miss Hanagen and Rooster away. I would recommend the play to others but not before giving them a review.

I took my Daughter and 3 Grandaughters. And we all thought it was magical. Each of the actors could really belt out the songs. Each and every one of the cast members is rightfully a gifted. Daddy Warbucks look like he really cared for Annie. Me and my daughter saw it 30 years ago and we did like this one better.

  • A great experience

    by NicksMom1 on 1/25/10Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Although the play was very good, the 4 yr old behind us sang every song. Another child behind us screamed through pretty much the whole play. I think anyone under 6 should not be admitted.

  • Annie is great for kids

by LisaandHannah on 1/25/10Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

We heard about the production late and the only tickets left were in the balcony. It was really hard to hear! Not sure if this was because the sound was not strong enough or the voices weren't strong enough. As the production wore on, it became harder and harder to hear. Also, all the kids there watching were louder than a full house of adults.

  • Classic story, new songs

by SnowWhiteSNL on 1/25/10Auditorium Theatre - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I had never seen the stage version before and quickly realized why. I like to go see big stage productions when they have amazing special effects, amazing set pieces, or stellar acting. This had none of those key ingredients, however, I did enjoy the show. I got goosebumps whenever the kids sang.

  • Good Fun for Families

Nice show. Fun for families, especially little girls. Sound could be better, but a nice theatre experience overall.

This show met expectations...The lead Annie had a decent voice, but no star quality. The standout by far was Molly. The other actors also - decent but didn't seem to exude thenecessary vibe for great theater. but overall made my 10 year old daughter happy...
