  • Disappointing-dont bring kids if they love the original film

    by c. D. on 12/17/23Rating: 2 out of 5

So I and my children are huge Annie fans- my kids are 6 and 8, and we have watched the original Annie dozens of times (and I’ve watched it hundreds). This was their first play/musical. I was extremely disappointed to see the “Let’s go to the Movies” number was not in this play. The dancing was minimal- It was mostly marching around the stage in unison but no real dancing like the movie. I was hoping there would be tap dancing but there was not. There were multiple songs added that were not in the film. For such a famous and nostalgic movie this was disappointing. I was even disappointed that the wig the Annie actress wore was a short straight hair wig and hardly red. No curls for Annie? The first act of “Hard knock life” was good- but then the entire first scene dragged. My kids who are excited for everything were getting tired and only interested in going to the concession counter. We ended up leaving early. We typically do Disney on Ice this time of year and I chose this instead and am really bummed out as this was not the experience I hoped. If you are bringing children I would pass on this one. We left after less than 10 minutes into the 2nd act and there were lots of parents leaving with their kids. So surprised such a major title play would be this bad. How can you add songs not in the film? It confused the story and they were awful. I will say the actress who played Grace had an amazing voice but I did not get to see any dancing from her- and the children were adorable-but I was not impressed with the actress playing Annie. There was a real dog for Sandy- this was the most exciting part for my kids. Hopefully I can save someone else from spending their money if they are on the fence. I am just completely disappointed about dragging my kids out for this and we were all so looking forward to this. They likely will not be interested in future plays after this experience. I spent almost 300 dollars for This show for the 3 of us and this was absolutely not worth it and honestly misleading for what we paid.

  • Great evening!

Everything about our evening at Stephens Auditorium was wonderful. All the personnel were very helpful and kind. The venue was comfortable. And the performance was fantastic! The talent on that stage was incredible and very well done from start to finish! It was a terrific experience!

I thought the play was great and my daughter enjoyed it. I am greatly saddened that there was not a little black girl in the role of Annie as advertised on the postings. This was the main reason for purchasing the ticket. I wanted my child to see someone who looked like her in that role. Representation is very important. Aside from this, the play was good and worth going. I only wish that the advertisement matched what I was getting.

I took my daughter and my two granddaughters (ages 3 & 7). They are still singing the songs! This was the 3 year olds first musical and when it was over, she wanted to know if I could bring her back! The cast was amazing! I so much enjoyed seeing this through my sweet little grandchildren’s eyes! Annie is one of my favorites! ….I Love ‘ya tomorrow!❤️

  • Annie was Fantastic

by SHIRLEY on 11/2/22North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Annie was very talented. She could act and sing and was very confident. The other kids in the show were equally talented and SO PROFESSIONAL, they knew exactly what to do. They could act and sing. But ANNIE's voice was stupendous. The whole show was wonderful. Our two grandkids LOVED the show and sat up in their seats when the dog (Sandy) came onto the stage. What a magical story. Fantastic!

The cast, the vocals, the ensembles, the music and the props (which by the way I always think makes the show so much more alive)....what more can I say. It was a wonderful performance and I would definitely see it again. The entire cast were absolutely great. Thank you ANNIE!!

  • Great Event

I was so impressed with every aspect of the sensor friendly performance of Annie. My sister is mentally challenged and can be talkative during a performance. I was so at ease knowing sensor friendly meant no "shushing". She did speak and sing softly; we had a great time and wonderful experience. With the audience lights on during the performance, restroom visits were safe and easy. I so appreciate this accommodation for people like me and my sister. We will be going to as many sensor friendly shows as we can. Thank you!

  • Oh my goodness, ANNIE was wonderful!

by JerseyCookie on 5/2/18Count Basie Theatre - Red BankRating: 5 out of 5

My brother loves Annie, so we've seen several productions from Jr. High up to when it was back on Broadway. He always enjoys it, and most productions give it their all and do a great job. This was no exception; Annie & the orphans (esp. Molly) were the tops, and Daddy Warbucks & Miss Hannigan were fabulous. The whole cast was just great, the sets were great. This was IMHO just about as good as the Broadway production. Well done! The Count Basie is a lovely older theatre, so seating's a bit cramped, they could use more restrooms, and decent, close parking is a challenge. But the sound was good, so the star rating is for the show, not just the venue (venue more like a 4).

I thought the play was wonderful and the set was beautiful! A little difficult understanding the words to the songs the girls sang. They were shouting at times. Just need to sing bit shout. Great actors!
