Amazing night with my grandaughter !!!

by Dolly B on 12/30/23Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

Our evening started with dinner, across the street, at The Bijou. You may say, who cares ! Well, we arrived early for our dinner reservation and were immediately seated. Our table was at window directly across from Shea's. After a short conversation with our waiter, Christopher, the gentleman at the next table spoke to us regarding the show time. Well, much to our surprise, it was Mark Woodard. Cast and crew need to eat diner, to !!! Mark, who plays FDR/Daddy Warbucks, was kind and humorous. Moments later, a women and young girl came to his table. None other than, Avery Hope, who plays Pepper/Annie. Mark introduced Avery to his new friend, my grandaughter, Avery !!! They both were more than happy to sign autographs on the Bijou menu, furnished by Christopher. Before Mark left to get ready for show, a much, cherished photo with my Avery ! Made for the beginning of a fantastic night !! Now for the show ..... Fantastic seats in the loge! The performance was amazing !!! Cast was full of energy, and so engaging ! ABSOLUTELY, the best night !

The characters, singing, dancing, acting, and the scenery were all just perfection! The cast was so engaging, fantastic singers, and just all around one of the absolute best shows I've ever seen! My 10-year-old daughter loved it, as well as my mother. Entertaining for every generation.

    Enjoyable but…

by Peppermint Patti on 12/25/23Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

The show was good. It was difficult to understand the dialogue especially when the children were speaking. The exaggerated phony New York accent made it worse. Singing was ok but perhaps it was a sound engineer problem. There just wasn’t enough umph in the show.

    Unexpected pleasure

by ricovegas on 12/24/23Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

Having never seen any version of Annie, I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised the emotional impact of this play. It works on many levels - humor, drama and a sense of retribution. The actors were all very good. I was especially impressed with the supporting cast who played multiple roles with precision and exuberance. I would highly recommend this cast and version for anyone (of any age) who is looking for a wonderful evening of American stage productions.

Disappointing-dont bring kids if they love the original film

    by c. D. on 12/17/23

So I and my children are huge Annie fans- my kids are 6 and 8, and we have watched the original Annie dozens of times (and I’ve watched it hundreds). This was their first play/musical. I was extremely disappointed to see the “Let’s go to the Movies” number was not in this play. The dancing was minimal- It was mostly marching around the stage in unison but no real dancing like the movie. I was hoping there would be tap dancing but there was not. There were multiple songs added that were not in the film. For such a famous and nostalgic movie this was disappointing. I was even disappointed that the wig the Annie actress wore was a short straight hair wig and hardly red. No curls for Annie? The first act of “Hard knock life” was good- but then the entire first scene dragged. My kids who are excited for everything were getting tired and only interested in going to the concession counter. We ended up leaving early. We typically do Disney on Ice this time of year and I chose this instead and am really bummed out as this was not the experience I hoped. If you are bringing children I would pass on this one. We left after less than 10 minutes into the 2nd act and there were lots of parents leaving with their kids. So surprised such a major title play would be this bad. How can you add songs not in the film? It confused the story and they were awful. I will say the actress who played Grace had an amazing voice but I did not get to see any dancing from her- and the children were adorable-but I was not impressed with the actress playing Annie. There was a real dog for Sandy- this was the most exciting part for my kids. Hopefully I can save someone else from spending their money if they are on the fence. I am just completely disappointed about dragging my kids out for this and we were all so looking forward to this. They likely will not be interested in future plays after this experience. I spent almost 300 dollars for This show for the 3 of us and this was absolutely not worth it and honestly misleading for what we paid.

    Bitter Sweet

by Jenx on 11/4/22Montgomery Performing Arts Centre - Montgomery

I thought the play was great and my daughter enjoyed it. I am greatly saddened that there was not a little black girl in the role of Annie as advertised on the postings. This was the main reason for purchasing the ticket. I wanted my child to see someone who looked like her in that role. Representation is very important. Aside from this, the play was good and worth going. I only wish that the advertisement matched what I was getting.

I took my daughter and my two granddaughters (ages 3 & 7). They are still singing the songs! This was the 3 year olds first musical and when it was over, she wanted to know if I could bring her back! The cast was amazing! I so much enjoyed seeing this through my sweet little grandchildren’s eyes! Annie is one of my favorites! ….I Love ‘ya tomorrow!❤️

    Annie was Fantastic

by Englishrose on 11/2/22North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North Charleston

Annie was very talented. She could act and sing and was very confident. The other kids in the show were equally talented and SO PROFESSIONAL, they knew exactly what to do. They could act and sing. But ANNIE's voice was stupendous. The whole show was wonderful. Our two grandkids LOVED the show and sat up in their seats when the dog (Sandy) came onto the stage. What a magical story. Fantastic!
