    Beautifully presented in every aspect!

by JCWARN on 4/19/15Palace Theatre New York - New York

I am not sure what we expected to see, but this American in Paris, surprised us and surpassed all of our earth bound expectations! It is a very sophisticated interpretation of the original movie, not a copy cat reproduction. All of the cast members were superlative, the dancing beautifully rendered. It did take me a bit to get used to the fluid scenery, but then I figured out, the dancers were moving in a ballet fashion, telling the background story. Amazing and wonderful! The sets themselves were beautiful and made a very effective contribution to telling the story, not overpowering the rest of the production. Everything about this production was magnificent. A wonderful night in the theater! Congratulations to Mr. Fairchild, Ms. Cope, and the wonderful Max von Essen. Our best night in the theater in years!

great show, while the music was traditional gershwin, the interpretation was totally fresh, loved the use of ballet, the dancers were excellent, particularly the leads, and they sang fairly convincingly, very creative set design and costumes, particularly loved the use of the modrian color scheme and the geometrics. all in all very beautiful

AMERICAN IN PARIS IS BRILLIANT MUSICAL THEATRE!

by Amandus on 4/18/15Palace Theatre New York - New York

I have seen well over 1,000 Bropadway shows in my long life and AMERICAN IN PARIS ranks as one of the all time greatest! Everything in the show is perfection from the beautiful and colorful stage design to the brilliant dancing; the entire show seems to be "in flight." The leads are sublime dancers and move with grace and passion. Gershwin's music is perfectly integrated into the fresh book which gives solid body to the show ( unlike the rather flimsy script to the magical film with Gene Kelly.). When I left the matinee, I wanted to return for the evening performance - that's how wonderful my experience was. To quote Gershwin : "Who could ask for anything more." A TRIUMPH11

An American in Paris stole our hearts!

by California2 on 4/18/15Palace Theatre New York - New York

This is a jewel - a show without any "big" names, and incredible talent in every role. We saw four Broadway shows on a recent trip and this one stole the show and our hearts - totally charming with fantastic choreography and music.

    A Stunning Performance

by 1816 on 4/18/15Palace Theatre New York - New York

Everything about this musical was beautifully done - the dance was superb, the sets were very imaginative, the characters were well-cast, and eveything ran like clockwork. Everyone in the audience seemed to be entralled with it and the man beside me said,"It will be here for 10 years" and he's probably right. It was because of all those reasone that I would recommend it - other than for the first time in years the 'F' word wasn't used once (how refreshing to see that our vocabulary can extend past that one word). However, the reason I did not give it five stars was because it lacked a very important element. I believe the musical lacked a 'soul'. "Kinky Boots" had soul; "Beautiful" had soul. I don't think that a musical has to have current music to have a soul (because how can you top Gershwin's music), but, I believe, it tried to be too perfect.

Spectacular is not a big enough word!

by turnedquilts on 4/18/15Palace Theatre New York - New York

This show was the most enjoyable play we've seen since Guys and Dolls and Movin' Out. The music of George and Ira Gershwin was so familiar and well performed. The choreography was perfect…you felt the emotions that the dancers were portraying. Even the costumes were true to the period. All in all this was a most surprising, entertaining and satisfying play. Go see it. You'll come away smiling.

A Truly Memorable Evening in The Theater

by Silverlake on 4/18/15Palace Theatre New York - New York

What a charming and delightful show; filled with some of the very best dancing that i have ever seen on Broadway. Everything about it felt fresh and inspired. I don't often see shows twice, but I look forward to seeing An American in Paris again. I felt like dancing down the street when I left the theater.

    I was underwhelmed...

by Kestralred on 4/17/15Palace Theatre New York - New York

My husband and I love Gershwin, and we were both bored during too much of the show. Everything was okay, but dance numbers that should have lasted 5-6 minutes dragged on for 15 mins - again and again. Yawn! Talented dancers, okay singers... Meh show.

    Wonderful show

by Aknitter on 4/17/15Palace Theatre New York - New York

This is a show not to miss. The Gerwins created a ballet that is also a musical. The dancing is amazing. I can't wait to see this again!

    Scenery is great

by GianCarloCapri on 4/17/15Palace Theatre New York - New York

Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by the leading actress who was dour and the ever smiling leading man. I missed Gene Kelly's masculinity and the tap dancing. The ballet and the dances in general just weren't that interesting. The songs are beautiful of course but it really is a juke box musical with no songs that are integral to the slim plot. The libretto includes dialogue about World War II, the aftermath of war, and the persecution of Jews in France but none of the subjects are dealt with in any way nor is there reaction of the characters to their feelings about those tragedies since no songs were even written for this plot. In all, with the movie still extent and more original musicals presently on Broadway, I cannot suggest "American in Paris."

Great to see this movie transformed to the stage.

by Feeta on 4/17/15Palace Theatre New York - New York

You must be a dance lover to truly appreciate this show. First act couldn't decide whether I was watching a ballet or a Broadway show. The second act is exquisite. The performers were amazing from the leads to the ensemble. It gives meaning to the phrase triple threat. The sets, costumes and lighting are gorgeous. The dancing is astounding, beautiful and moving. Christopher Wheeldon should be congratulated.

    An American In Paris-perfect title

by BGOT on 4/17/15Palace Theatre New York - New York

Based on an old movie, this production was quite modern. The dancing was modern ballet and amazing!!!! Sets and the way the scenery was moved around was quite interesting and very well done. Music and songs by Gershwin are timeless and most enjoyable. This is a must-see Broadway production.

    Treat for the eyes!

by mlcc2 on 4/17/15Palace Theatre New York - New York

The characters and the set all moved together in a beautiful fluid like flow. The dancing was incredible. It is one of the best shows I have seen in awhile. The lead dancers are true masters of their craft.
